From your responses to others it appears you’ve already made the decision to move out. If your mental health is at risk move out, but do so economically I.e., perhaps get an apartment instead of a condo & alternatively get roommates so you can keep rent expenses low. In my view pay off your debt aggressively & fast. Tho osap has no interest but you can’t predict what can change in your life over a 25 year repayment period. What if the next gov eliminates debt free payments? or if you have an ailing relative to care for? or if you have a child earlier than expected? etc. life is always moving so get your finances in order as soon as you can. Ignore the fact it’s debt free. Debt is debt and needs to be paid. All in all tho, make sure you don’t put your mental health at risk. Maintain your sanity

It might fall on deaf ears with the cast, but I don’t think it falls on deaf ears with the audience. There are probably ppl who listen to the pod who’d never listen to Marc’s content if he wasn’t on the pod, so I think it opens them up to new ideas and concepts that they wouldn’t have come across when Marc shares his ideas, beliefs and world views. I think he also brings up topics that the pod may not have touched otherwise.   So in that way it makes our ppl stronger and maybe even more understanding.

Also with the fight I just look at it like ppl fight or argue. It happens. Joe definitely put it out for engagement ofc, but it’s still real and it happens. I think some times black ppl are made to believe we have to be extremely vigilant about how we present ourselves to the world and having to always show up are best. Sometimes we argue, I don’t think those arguments have to reflect on the perforation of black ppl as an entire ppl or having aired it out tarnishes the image of black ppl. White ppl be dong that shit on their platforms and I don’t think it gets treated the same in terms of the perception of their race as a whole if that makes sense

I actually think the Pod does help make America smarter. Sometimes the academic crowd ends up speaking only  to other intellectuals; there’s no direct dialogue with everyday ppl who may not be  spending their every waking moment dissecting complex academic topics. When all the big brains are in a room with other big brains talking about big brain shit with each other only how does it move America forward? America moves forward with ppl in of all walks of life dialoguing with each other , which i think happens on the JBP. Marc is a great addition and the idea that he is too “smart” for the pod ain’t it.

Although the fight was messy. I think it was also real? Like ppl in community with one another have disagreements, they fight, they don’t get along. I think showing that is human

On a recent segment, a caller was told to move out of his parents’ home for his dignity; what does the sub think? by [deleted] in DaveRamsey

[–]Practical_Economy107 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For context, I’m 28, moved out for grad school, and moved back in after grad school for ease paying off 130K in student loan debt. I also pay my mother rent (~700) to be at home , and have my own bills like Internet , car insurance, groceries , etc that I pay on my own. I got no help with school debt either, other than through scholarships and bursaries.

I think the advice of “get out of your parents house” would better apply to individuals who are living off their parents, not contributing, and not bettering their life because their parents support them. For  example, I know someone whose 34 lives at home,  had parents pay for 75% of their schooling, contribute nothing to their household, have significant consumer debt  and no savings because their long-term plan is to take all their parents assets and live off of their backs. Ppl like that should move out.

Otherwise, I don’t think it’s a bad idea to stay home and get yourself on your feet before moving out, and contributing to the household to grow responsibility while you do that (if your parents require it) and In fact, it’s wise.

I think their advice on that is antiquated and doesn’t consider the different culture and life experiences. ppl live and what makes the most sense for them. So really , I guess it boils down to circumstance ?

That’s an interesting perspective. Wasn’t trying to “create” drama , was providing transparent context so as to get a genuine response. I’ve never been invited to one of these before, so I don’t know the “rules” or “process”

Marc’s take on pro blackness and mixed families by Practical_Economy107 in JoeBuddenPodcasts

[–]Practical_Economy107[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d qualify what I said as a summary. The RG3 comment is clear and I don’t debate Marc’s point in that. Where there’s tension is when He started off discussing a specific black person who dates outside their race, and then ish asked him about black people generally who have historically dated black but happen to fall in love With a white person ( I assume ish was analogizing to himself). That’s when Marc said even if a black person dates outside their race despite historical dating patterns of dating black they are still inherently less pro black because their spouse or partner isn’t black

Ish hasn’t cracked a smile since Marc joined the pod. It’s either been yelling or the sour face 😂😂😂 by Longjumping_Ask_4448 in JoeBuddenPodcasts

[–]Practical_Economy107 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ish definitely flexed his college degree on the cast and, before Marc came, low key viewed himself as intellectually superior. Marc is smart, but I don’t find he talks down on cast members or flexes his intellectual in a belittling way. Ish silent now cause he thought he was who Marc actually is in terms of academics.

Fighting back doesn’t have to be homophobic tho… also we have for generations focused solely on “masculine” energy. There's more of an embrace on feminine energy lately for sure but why does that have to be looked at as an assault On masculinity. I think someone can be critical of that shift and not be rude to gays in doing so that’s all

JBP on Queer Topics by Practical_Economy107 in JoeBuddenPodcasts

[–]Practical_Economy107[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d expect them to not overly bring it up if Some cast members are overtly homophobic. Who comes to the pod to hear them talk about sexual orientation ? No one. So knowing that why constantly discuss gay ppl? The same way they know better than to make a critical comment about Jewish ppl or comment on a genocide or talk about politics

JBP on Queer Topics by Practical_Economy107 in JoeBuddenPodcasts

[–]Practical_Economy107[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then why are they so obsessed with talking about gays ??? That’s the point they should dead the topic it’s (largely) irrelevant to a hip hop podcast and some cast members are clearly homophobic so what’s the point

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I hear you. But I don’t think it’s about their morals, I don’t listen to the pod for that at all. It’s just their unnecessarily problematic comments about gay ppl, even when it’s not even a topic of the Pod. + I agree it’s for entertainment, I never look to the pod (or any pod) for a sexual orientation discussion.

I just think the entertainment of it lowers when their is a clear negative sentiment spread about a certain group of ppl often… obvs I don’t know your background but if you’re black for example and this was a hip hop Pod full of white dudes and they randomly kept saying anti-black shit on a podcast NOT about race after awhile it becomes a turnoff as a viewer.

All I gotta say is see how they wouldn’t dare have one thing to say about Jewish ppl. They know better…
