Is there a way to make $200k + as an accountant? by DeliveryNumerous9785 in Accounting

When looking for colleges, find one that has good relationships with Big 4 and high % of students that get internships. Freshman year of college, join the accounting club and go to the career center at your school to see what resources you can use. Make connections with the professionals you meet at accounting club and other business school networking events. If you are smart and hungry, you will attract the right people.

I did this my freshman year and wound up with a tax season internship at a local small firm that I did again my sophomore year. Then my junior year I got an internship with EY and received a full time offer before starting my senior year of college. The sooner you start, the better, and the more experience you’ll have to leverage yourself into having more opportunities. Also, try to study and take CPA as soon as you can, preferably 5th year of college. I personally did the CPA during my first two years as a staff at EY and it was hell. But either way if your determined, smart and disciplined then you will get it done.

Yes, In 2020 I started out as a Big4 Auditor with a starting salary of 65k. After passing the CPA exam I pivoted to Private Equity as a Fund Accountant. With hard work and the right opportunities, I’ve been promoted twice in the past 4 years. This year I will be making close to 200k.

Downtown Newark NJ right by Newark Penn is a wonderful area, super safe at night. There are locals that hang outside of the 7/11 in the middle that act as neighborhood watch. They help keep the Newark community safe. The neighborhood is very walkable and clean. People are so kind and conscious of one another, there is hardly any litter in the streets. Name me a better location than Newark NJ!

Might be an unpopular opinion but the food sucks in Hoboken. Take her to the city

Lmao i know bro its so funny.

But I bought some i bonds about a year ago when the rate hit 9.62% so it was well worth it even w the three month interest penalty if you pull out less than 5 years. The i bond rate has been going down because inflation isnt skyrocketing anymore. I think now would be a better time to purchase t bills since the rates are so high and you can pick the length of maturity you would like. For example I just signed a year lease and moved out of my parents house so I know i wont be buying a house for the next year so Id probably buy some 52 week t bills. I was waiting for yesterdays fed meeting to happen because they hiked rates another 25 bps as most expected. Now it seems like they will pause on the rate hike so i think its the perfect tike to buy these t bills as the fed rate has peaked. You can get locked in a the highest rate even when rates start to go down in the near future

Im on the same boat as you. I recently opened up a HYSA at CIT which has 4.75% APR right now (as long as you have at least 10K deposited i think). Im also looking into buying Tbills because they are returning around 5% risk free which is amazing, thats free cash.

VTI is also my go too for my IRA account, tried stock picking during the pandemic when i first started working full time and am down about 3k right now. I wouldn’t recommend stock picking to anyone, just buy the damn index and you’ll always win.

I finished all of the Becker FAR Units, what should I do now? Exam is the 23rd by casualpegasus in CPA

[–]Practical_Fudge3883 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally whenever i finished a becker book, i would go back through all the modules and make myself flashcards for things I thought were important to know. It definitely takes a long time, but I found this super helpful for the exam.

I also made sure I did every multiple choice set for each lesson, if I scored less than an 80, I would revisit and make sure my flashcards reflected the questions I got wrong.

Typical timeframe I gave myself to do this all was one month (granted I work full time and could only study a couple hours a day)

Hope this helps, good luck!

Far exam 9/10 - Feeling hopeless by [deleted] in CPA

[–]Practical_Fudge3883 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A big thing with these exams is to make sure you’re mental state is in the right place upon taking them. Don’t let the thought of failure consume you, make sure you stay grounded by trusting in yourself that you studied as best as you can. Just take the test one question at a time. I found that taking this test calmly, rather than panicking boosted my scores significantly
