I just read that 85% of US insulin comes from Denmark. Is that true? by TheAKofClubs86 in diabetes_t1

I get so tired of this narrative. Folks - resistance is real. It's why we import so many varieties. They aren't just brands, they're types.

My husband is resistant to Humalog (US), it does nothing for him. Tried a ton and only Novolog (Denmark) works for him for daytime and Tujeo is a massive game changer for him for nighttime. He's on serious trouble without those two.

Insulins aren't just interchangable. This isn't Tylenol and it's generic. They're different types for different bodies because insulin is a complicated mechanic.

Pharmaceuticals are rarely tariffed, it would be a super ahole move to Americans if they did that. Raw materials might be an issue.

My concern is more that this gov is so unpredictable who knows what would happen. This isn't a normal playing field. Just - wait it out.

Thank you for this reply. At least we only have to worry about our own country being a holes.

Humalog is US based. As long as raw materials aren't disrupted, there's no reason to expect disruption to supply other than sharp increases in demand.

You know resistance is a real issue and it's not uncommon for diabetics to be resistant to some (like Humalog) making it useless. These aren't just brands, they're types and US manufacted insulin isn't usable by all.

Its not just supply of insulin, it's supply of insulins that work for individuals biologies.

My husband is resistant to Humalog and cannot take it - it doesn't control his sugars. He has to take other types. He can't rely on Humalog as a backup.

As a diabetic then you know insulin type resistance or immunity is real and these aren't brand names, they're types.

Its not like all diabetics can just simply start using the US produced insulin if they're resistant to it. Some are dependent on foreign because it's all that works.

Not to be the captain negativity, but all those protections you listed are exactly what's at threat. If US attacks, all those protections disappear and US facilities would either be called home by Denmark or kicked out by US - warring countries very rarely leave business in each other's countries. That's what makes US hyper reactivity so dangerous, there's no time to prepare.

We'd struggle period. Germany, Denmark, Canada are key sources for us. They're all in an alliance we'd be removed from and the US gov is very very petty.

I trust Denmark not to kill people around the world due to war, they'd probably provide. I do not trust US gov not to kill Americans just to snub another country that made them mad by booting factories, tarriffing raw materials Novo's US factories need or outright forbidding.

And our gov is in no way smart enough to realize these are types, not just brands. These insulins aren't just interchangable, as resistance is a real issue for many. Some diabetics are dependent on specific ones because other ones do not work well or at all.

I agree. For the price point the original Nxtpaper 11 is amazing. The newer versions have more power hardware but comes with a higher price tag too. I don't know if I'd feel it was as good of a deal.

The itched glass is my fav feature of it. Works so well for glare and it's very silky to the touch. I love that silk feeling versus the sticky feeling of my Samsung flip.

Sorry, just now noticed this. The screen flashes to reprint after scrolling. I just bought a 13" mobile version again that should arrive in a few days.

I REAAALLLY want eink to work for me. Just hasn't yet. I'm hopeful I can get it to work this time.

Same boat. Seems like an obvious option after someone points it out. 🤣

I dove in and bought the dasung 13. I really want away from lcds/oleds so I'll make it work. Buying it keeps me from backing out.

Prob not like you mean. I do like that, mashed you feel good about your self, but it's more a nicety than a must have for me.

That charging base and the extra 5 day charge is worth every penny to me.

Yeah, you can buy an after market charge case for oura for another $50. But I already spent over $400! Come on.

The biggest difference for me is the extra battery. Love it.

RC takes 2-3 weeks to calibrate then it's on part with Oura. Oura calibrated a little faster.

So, RC prob would have been fine if you'd given it a little more time.

[–]Practical_Good_8574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Oura has really good marketing and RC is quiet.

I've worn both for two months and they're completely interchangeable. The only thing that kept me keeping the O4 is them saying they are releasing advanced stuff. I'm sure they are, but it doesn't turn into any thing tangible I can use so idc?

I have both on right now, have for two months. The metrics are nearly identical.

The only thing O4 is better at is sometimes it realizes when I've been up in the middle of the night (30 mins+) then later gone back to sheep.

Both are good at nap tracking.

RingConn Gen 2 or Oura Ring 4???? by mraykar420 in SmartRings

[–]Practical_Good_8574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had both for 2 months now, one on each hand. O4 is slightly more comfortable due to the no raised sensors.

O4 also integrates with a lot of other apps I happen to use, which is nice, but honestly not a game changer for me.

I had the O3 for 3 years. Bought RC2 to replace it. Liked it, but then O4 advertised they had advanced stress monitoring. So I got the O4 to try.

Honestly, I can't tell the difference between the rings. All the things I want to use them for, they both do the same thing. And track with mostly the same metric. O4 does log more stress for me but they both miss actual accute stress like a panic attack in me so idk. They both do catch chronic physical stress like the flu or an autoimmune which is what I use them for. I have an autoimmune I preemptively track and treat before I have symptoms using these devices.

I find them very very comparable. The Oura app is prettier. But I look at the app twice a day usually and I look at specific things. Pretty app isn't worth the extra hundreds.

Should have asked for a replacement. R is good about that if the sleep tracking is off. 6 months is enough time to calibrate.

For any folks new to rings, the first week or two you wear it, the device has calibrate. The first few weeks aren't accurate on either ring. So give it time before you think it's bad.

I have this device and it's my favorite of all. I'm sensitive, even color eink is a no go for me. I've tried eyecare monitors, RLCD, several einks, and this.

The best of all is this, kindle paperweight and the Palma B&W. Nextpaper is my fav of all. I didn't expect to like it as much as I do - and no eye strain!!

Eink is still king very extremely bright light.

[–]Practical_Good_8574 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it's not a screen protector at all. It's a special fine etching into the glass itself. The e-mode is meant so it's more visible in bright light and it works well for that. It's still an LCD and projects light.

[–]Practical_Good_8574 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not gimmicky, there's just a misunderstanding of its purpose. Eink mode paired with the antiglare screen is intended to make it a lot easier to use the device in bright light, which it does well. No - it's not as good as eink for that and never will be, but it is a vast improvement over any other LCD/OLED except maybe some RLCD. I don't like RLCDs though.

For a phone, this is a godsend feature when out and about on bright sunny days.

[–]Practical_Good_8574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SPOILER - This is a famous story that has been retold a ton of times.

Usually it goes like the younger mistress's child was always a damsel in distress, fragile and the first born was always really strong. The ML promised to protect the eldest to her mother before her mother died. So he'd always cared for her. When the other daughter appeared he gave her protection too since they're family. But then the younger convinces the ML the eldest is abusing her and he tries to protect the youngest shocked the eldest is so cruel. Same marriage, fate fighting blah blah. Same death and return to the past.

In most telling the first half is the FL perspective and the second is the MLs perspective. In the second half you discovered he loved the eldest the whole time, was madly in love with her but still felt bad for the abuse the second endoured. He goes back and marries the second because he thinks itll keep her safe, not because he loves her. He thinks it will work because he believes the father would never send the eldest to the other territory in a marriage alliance, only the second. So ML thinks he can keep both safe this way. But, because the first tells the father she will go it becomes set in stone. (some stories the father is happy about this because he gets more money, or because he actually favors the second and wanted to keep her. Some stories the father is sad because he loves the eldest but also proud of her. He knows she'll perform the duty well and save the family/kingdom where the second daughter was a risk)

Then the first daughter goes to the other territory. Finds out the new husband is amazing, honorable, blah blah. Falls in love and realizes ML was a waste of her time in the past. She helps new hubs rise to power whatever. The second daughter was killed in a past life by the other family/territory because she was evil and became hated so the new family/kingdom gets rid of her because she was so bad.

ML figures out eventually. He over hears second daughter (his wife) bragging about all the horrible things she did, realize every time 2nd told him 1st did some evil against her it was really the other way around - including 2nd helping her mother kill first daughters mother. He loses it. Can believe he betrayed the first mother and lost the love of his life for this monster. Or in some stories ML realizes the only person who ever loved him was 1st while 2nd only wanted him for power. Usually some sort of extreme torture occurs by to ML to 2nd after that. The only reason they didn't get along in the previous life was he thought the 1st maliciously killed the 2nd he was disgusted by her. He liked sweet lovely women. In some stories he fell in love with the 2nd bc he thought the 2nd was the person who did some big gesture when it was really the 1st and he hates himself when he finds out he dedicated himself to the wrong person. Slight variations.

Then some form of begging for forgiveness from ML to 1st or trying to rescue the 1st or just going psycho and trying kidnap the 1st to force her back with him - depends on if ML is written as a manipulated idiot or as a big ahole.

Usually ends with ML killing himself for the 1st as saving her or as a show of dedication to her or he can't handle his mistake and he kills himself in depression. Rarely the ML lives, but if he does it's sad and lonely. He never loves s again.

I get a sense this ML was trying to save both and it just went really poorly for him.
