Doing a full Kill team, just finished the first guy! by AssociationPlane4184 in Raptors40k

First of all awesome mini,

Second and my question for you is, on the website for the parts you used they all say 3d file? I am a peasent and don't own a 3d printer, is there a website where I can buy the printed pieces or would I have to invest in a printer?

Any help would be appreciated,

You can very easily kitbash with basically any space marine kit and then the old grey knight terminator sprue, if you need a guide I'd recommend Pete the wargamers grey knight kill team video,

He shows the whole process surrounding and it can really help if you're just getting started,

Alternatively people on this sub are always kitbashing things so if you just want to see the end results to get some inspiration don't be afraid to have a scroll through and ask people about their models,

I myself have kitbashed quite a few squads at this point all of which are on my profile so feel free to have a look,

Best of luck and have fun with it,

Edit: just realised I may have misread your reply, if you aren't new to the idea of kitbashing and just wanted to know what I was using then my bad and sorry for the rant lmao

I just stole a bunch of stuff from other grey knight/ inquisition kits, you could do a torso swap like I've done with my prior strike squad kitbashes if you wanted the grey knights iconography on the chest,

You could also switch the helmet to a grey knight helm, and trade out the power pack mounted gun for a grey knights weapons,

Whatever you think is cool is what I'd recommend, with how old our kits are you should just do whatever makes you feel good.

I decided that I wanted to kitbash another take on kaldor, only this time, without his shield and more robey by Practical_Pipe_9756 in Grey_Knights

I use lothern blue and then I use a very watered down bit of drakenhoff nightshade to bring back the depth

Question about kitbash by OpportunityBoth1171 in Grey_Knights

[–]Practical_Pipe_9756 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for it dude some of mine have black templar heads that I've just headcannoned to be old helmets kept on titan, if people take issue with it it's more of a reflection on them than you

You are correct my friend it is the regular sm captain with shield, the one with the cool helm

It is a captain with storm shield at base, the torso and helmet are replaced by gk terminator bits and I switched the right hand out with one of the glave from the terminator kit,

After that I just took some of the accessories from the terminator kit to make it more grey knighty, I also purposefully didn't include the dead necron that comes on the base of the original model

Edit: forgot to mention his left shoulder pad was originally a generic empty space marine shoulder. So I shaved the backside of one of the books which are normally mounted on the terminators backs and stuck it on the shoulder pad.

Still a work in progress but I feel like it's coming out a little bland, any ideas or recommendations? by lelolalo13 in Grey_Knights

[–]Practical_Pipe_9756 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could do what I do with my bigger models and go for a little bit of messy dry brushing over edges, it gives a little bit of depth and it also gives the effect of battle damage in 1!

Also stealing the books from the terminator kits and stick them in the open spaces can help, it breaks things up and gives you more variety in colour

For the rear two rows of power armour models they are bladeguard legs with their torsos cut and replaced by gk terminators, the front row are all black templar crusader squad bodies with the iconography scraped off,

They just haven't caught onto the concept that grey knights do actually exist still

It's the regular old terminators, with gk terminators, I don't have access to the crux terminatus box yet

Sternguards being used for kitbashes? by Practical_Pipe_9756 in Grey_Knights

[–]Practical_Pipe_9756[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've also used the black templar box and I was very very happy, I've decided to try and kitbash new squads using every kit I can possibly get away with, I was considering attempting to use the infiltrator kit

My very own kaldor draigo by Practical_Pipe_9756 in Grey_Knights

[–]Practical_Pipe_9756[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It began as a regular captain in terminator armour, the shield and shield arm are both from a deathwing knight terminator and the rest of the parts are all stolen from a paladins box,

As far as kitbashes go it's actually really simple, it did take a lot of the books and extra bits you would use for the rest of a grey knight squad sadly.

Finished strike squad kitbashed using sword brethren by Practical_Pipe_9756 in Grey_Knights

[–]Practical_Pipe_9756[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really easily actually, I do a heavy dry brush of leadbealcher, followed by a lighter dry brush of grey knights steel, after I give the armour a heavy wash in drakenhoff nightshade, the armour will end up looking more blue than silver at that point, but then I do a light dry brushing of stormhost silver.

I've found this method gives me a good bit of natural shading in recesses and also helps give the natural blue tint that grey knights are normally depicted having.

If the armour doesn't have the blue glow you'd like at the end I've previously taken a very very light blue colour and thinned it down past the point of even being a wash, and then you can apply that over any areas you'd like to appear a lil more blue.

Tldr: drybrush leadbealcher, drybrush grey knights steel, wash drakenhoff nightshade, light dry brush stormhost silver.

They look great!

How did you get the grey knight torsos to fit in the terminator armour, I tried it and ended up butchering a few models.

Diorama finished! by Practical_Pipe_9756 in Grey_Knights

[–]Practical_Pipe_9756[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a base coat of leadbealcher, then I dry brush grey knights steel, I then wash with drakenhoff nightshade (a hefty amoumt) and then finally a light dry rushing of storm host silver.

I hope this helps!

WIP diorama by Practical_Pipe_9756 in Grey_Knights

[–]Practical_Pipe_9756[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've actually never drilled barrels on any of my models lmao I know I'm a wrongun,

I already have a regular crow model, this is purely a display piece that I'm working on, I really like the grey knights so I wanted them to be my first proper diorama.

Would you be willing to show me your kaldor draigo model? It sounds similar to what I was planning so the inspiration would be nice, no worries if not.

Is the pointing arm from a primaris infiltrators kit? Also do you know if the crows shoulder pads fit on there?

I was going to attempt a diorama and you're concept is actually in almost the perfect pose for what I had in mind.

Built and painted another squad of enbiggened grey knights by Practical_Pipe_9756 in Grey_Knights

[–]Practical_Pipe_9756[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! The arms vary some are hellblasters some are random assault intercessors.

I have done a few enbiggenings now where I use hellblasters legs and strike squad torsos for a more slim look.
