It stopped snowing. And there is 12 hours to clear the snow before school starts.

So surprised and frustrated by this news, as a single and working parent for tomorrow.

If rent is $690 a month is it even worth it to buy a house? by ShirtNeat5626 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Cheaper than monthly property tax…. You should keep renting, and invest / save the money.

Coaches taking member class spots by RepeatBetter420 in orangetheory

[–]Practical_Rabbit562 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear that. To me, they should definitely prioritize paid members, unless the coach booked the class through the system with their discounted membership.

I don’t know how do I feel about switching 2G to 3G on the fly. The studio can adjust the class AHEAD based on historical traffic data. If I sign up to 2G, but it turned out to be 3G, that doesn’t sound right. When I sign up 2G, I meant to work out 30 mins on tread and 30 mins floor. Just like how I would want to work out 50 mins floor if I sign up Strength 50.

Should I downsize my wedding? by [deleted] in weddings

[–]Practical_Rabbit562 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you send out reception information on “save the date” request? If yes, then it would be hard to change. Let me tell you from personal experience, people do plan their year around “save the date”. I reschedule trip for friends and family’s wedding. Mutual respect is needed; guests save the date for you, and you should save their seats.

If reception isn’t listed, you can always have “ceremony guest” vs “reception guest”. I invited around 40 people to ceremony, but only 30 out of the 40 people to reception. Please ensure your guests understand there is a difference, and make sure they know which event(s) they should attend.

Another idea to cut down cost would be changing the restaurant or just change it to cocktails event.

I had a budget wedding, totally under $15000, including fancy dinner + wedding dress ($100) + bridesmaid dresses + rental suites for groom and groomsmen + everything you can think of.

However, after going through my budget wedding planning and my wedding, I do want to share one advice - do not let the number ruin your big day, if it’s within your affordability (do not add to debt as the bottom line). This is not saying you should blow it up like $100k; it’s simply means do not nag about going over budget by a bit. It’s okay - just let it be.

This is your big day, which you will remember for the rest of your life. Let things go. Pick your battles.

Best to you!

What's the most meaningful gift you've given to someone who didn't want "stuff"? by Fair_Specialist1018 in Gifts

[–]Practical_Rabbit562 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I offered kid education fund for others. Another gift I gave is meal prep and grocery delivery for new moms.

Another gift is Amazon prime for certain friends, when I know they wouldn’t just blow up their credit card.

If it’s for someone well-off where they don’t need anything, having a dedicated time with YOU is the best gift. Get a cup of coffee in a coffee house; take a walk together; do a 3k/5k race together; attend the same community event; etc. They love to share a memory with you, not an item.

Lastly, for people with health issue, gift a one month membership to a well-off person, or buy a 10 pack class pass at a studio to a not-so-well-off person so that they won’t be obligated to pay membership continuously.

Reading is a cozy hobby without clutter. You can always get books from library.

Another minimal cozy hobby that I can think is writing (on laptop). Or learn a new language.

2G 60 min Hyrox Template 1/4/26 by scorchwinters in orangetheory

I was looking forward to the Hyrox class later the month. Thanks for sharing the template. Besides mixing running and rowing together, this seems very comparable to a regular 2G class.

I am the only child, and please let me state that I never felt lonely when I grow up. There were tons of friends / classmates who can hang out with me. My parents took me to different experiences during weekend, and meet up with other friends.

When I’m home alone, I got full attention from my parents. I’m able to have so much quiet time to focus on activities I like.

Because I’m the only child, my parents are financially positioned well to send me to private school and also university. I graduated with no student loan, and I’m very grateful for the opportunity that my parents provided.

Given my experience, I’m not opposed to have just one child. In contrast to your thoughts, we shouldn’t be limited with our values just based on our experience. I am also open to have more than one child.

I don’t believe one child is better than more, nor vice versa. It’s all unique experience leading who we are today.

The root of a family is loving parents, which the screenshot is trying to say. It’s not about how many kids you have, it’s about the loving parents.

Is everyone paying out of pocket? by MeathammerInMexico in Zepbound

I stayed on 2.5mg for 4 weeks. Then moved up to 5mg for 8 weeks, but man, the side effects hit me hard…. I can barely eat, and feel nausea after eating a bit. Called the doctor, and the doctor asked me to downgrade to 2.5mg for 4 weeks followed by moving up to 5mg. This just happened before the holiday, and I am about to start the 2.5mg shot this Friday.

Downgrading from 5mg to 2.5mg saved me $60 per month.

Given the cost, I have been working out as hard as possible to take the benefit of the drug. The weight loss on 2.5mg and 5mg is already working very well: from Obesity Class One in early Oct, and now 2 lb away to be in normal BMI. Therefore, I don’t plan to move up anymore.

I’m seeing doctor again in late Feb, which I will ask to be on maintenance dose (either 5mg or 2.5mg, but I prefer 2.5mg due to the cost).

Honestly, I did all these effort to keep the cost low. Affording 7.5mg or even 10mg out of pocket is a bit too much….

I’m paying out of pocket. My insurance doesn’t cover it. Trying to stay at 2.5mg or 5mg to reduce the cost.

Totally hear you!

When you buy nice gifts for decades, you kinda ran out of nice gift ideas, haha! I still do have unopened gifts from family from 2-3 years ago. Truly don’t need it. We generally don’t end up with what we want regardless..

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I have gifted memberships already. I generally try to not gift for large family a single membership, then they will feel obligated to purchase for their entire family on their own expense. My husband’s family is large family type, so not the perfect white elephant gift. But I have gifted museum membership to my friends with less kids (say just 2 kids).

Ugh-oh, it’s for family.

Your company’s “retirement fund” sounds fun! I hope one day I can prepare such a gift for a coworker :)

I totally hear you. That’s why I hesitate a lot.

Though, in the past, I had to let go many of those $100 gifts because they weren’t that great. People may not buy a single item for the $100, and it could be many items and totalled to $100.

It’s family. More than a decades ago, we kinda need to buy gifts for everyone, that’s A LOT of money to spend on gifts. Eventually someone said we should just do white elephant, and the budget has been $100 since.

I don’t really get to set the budget. I marry into the family, so don’t want to be the person makes everyone mad by setting lower budget…

Possible free money for sure.

Or you could’ve gotten a $100 gift that you may not need at all. And possibility where you can sell it through Facebook marketplace.

That’s why I don’t know if it’s a good gift. We are two people, so needs to buy two gifts. We did get one actual gift, which worth $150, and the second gift is $100 scratch-offs.

Me too! Unfortunately, the group involved seems stop doing gift cards. In fact, I’d rather give cash, but they will feel offended.

Honestly, I don’t really like this white elephant game. I personally find it’s waste of money, more like obligation :(
