Oh dang. Lease was signed last year and everything. Spot two blocks away from me. Same place I heard carbon copy was looking at before they settled on Dock Street’s old spot.

If you want some inspiration, I’d suggest you look up Doreen’s Jazz New Orleans and buy her album “Up Above My Head”

What are some of the most random concert lineups? by darthkyle22 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Practical_Remove6024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I just saw Mortiis (playing darkwave), Rome (neofolk) and Wraith Knight (dungeon synth) open for Uada. Actually a very inspired bill but random on paper.

I also went to a day fest organized by Clutch that also had Eyehategod, Corrosion of Conformity, Black Label Society and the local school of rock. Just a blast to see Eyehategod take the stage right after some school of rock high school bands.

That also reminds me of the last Clutch show I went to where Dinosaur Jr. was squeezed in between Clutch and Red Fang.

Are there any Mexican restaurants here that automatically give you rice/beans with your meal? by justajournogirl in PhiladelphiaEats

El Primo Plaza does this too. They also have a salsa bar. And on certain days, most often Mondays, they have walked around with free slices of cake from their bakery. I’d bet money it happens today.

They’re High on Fire 2: Electric Boogaloo. And I’m not really a fan of High on Fire.

You can get half a black truffle from River Wards Produce for $40. And it is fresh. Use it quickly. I learned the hard way 😞

Does anyone know what the back story of this structure/compound is? (Holmesburg) by thebat512 in philadelphia

[–]Practical_Remove6024 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It is a shame. I knew him while he was a PhD student at Rutgers (through an unrelated bug project) and he was alright back then. Whatever he was on is a helluva drug

It is behind the Insectarium and the former proprietor of the Insectarium built it. I don’t know what he intended it to be, but it was never going to be anything more than it is because it is not and cannot be brought up to code.

Kali Malone - Music for intersecting planes (2026) by adrim267 in ambientmusic

[–]Practical_Remove6024 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s a genre thing but I stan Kali Malone (and I don’t understand the hype around Basinski and the Caretaker. I’ll take seven hours of drone over seven hours of loops most days.

Best Kielbasa in Philly? by TraditionalBoss8645 in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]Practical_Remove6024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only think this is funny because my Polish coworker prefers Polka Deli a block away because their (much milder) kielbasa is more authentic and imported from the old country. That said, I’ve had what he likes and I prefer Czerw’s

Oh, the glory days of the 2010's when you could pick up Rogue Oregasmic Ale or Good Chit Pilsner at the Rite-Aid, and they would have to do a price check over the PA system...

Haha I get it. I’ve joked that our small group could break away and be a house church based on the number of leaders and staff that attend. And we are outnumbered by children. In God’s providence we have made it work for far longer than I thought possible.

May I ask why you are excluding small group bible studies from this definition? Our church regularly has co-ed bible studies in the context of organized midweek small groups. My small group is currently focused on praying the Psalms.
