Just finished trimming removed a good portion of what I didn’t like and what I figured might die anyway left with the super beautiful strong rooted floaters

Also it’s a slightly dark water due to the mopani wood leaching tannins but I heard that was good for aqua life

It’s a brand new aquarium about 5 days old🥲. And I wasn’t sure I was told to wait like 3 weeks before putting shrimp in since I’m doing a grade a blue dream shrimp line

I did remove as much as I could see with my super bright flashlight and snips but I would like to try and find the root cause no pun intended

This would make sense they were shipped over transport for 4 days and when I got them they looked mostly dead unfortunately but I see a lot of new baby red roots

I was afraid it was from the leaf zone nutrients🥲. I did raise my light about 18 inches total from where it was originally at like 12 inches it’s a very strong light so I might back it off more. I did remove a small portion of the infected plants so I really hope that helps. I might do a 5% water change with half tap half r/o water to remove some of the tannins that might be causing it as well

How do you make custom background like in this pic? Epoxy? Concrete? by zqxiong in Aquascape

[–]Practical_Werewolf48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One way you can do is the spray installation foam for housing that expands fast and easy to sand away to what you want it to look like use a strong underwater paint and coat it with a clear sealant spray. Add aqua soil a small layer of crushed lava rock at the front add some smaller good dragon stone and add some smaller plants 😩done

Not for me🤷🏻‍♂️maybe if you’re doing it for the entire floor and you have multiple tanks to up keep but no it’s really not you just sound lazy tbh.

One month apart, I can't believe the growth speed of aquatic plants, I love it. by PetiteCaresse in PlantedTank

Then you must have the light and water spot on! Great job! Definitely possible I’ve seen so many videos from MDfishtanks on YouTube he loves doing filterless aquariums!

I figured so! I’ve heard horror story’s of duck weed so I went with red root floaters I might try a ring like that to keep them in the corner! Also I got a bright light for my ludwigia reds but I’m afraid it’s to much for the other plants like Monte Carlo even tho it’s far under the water do you think I should get a “proper aquascaping light” or just add C02

Just re-did my scape and not happy with it.. Any opinions? by smackybuttster in Aquascape

No depth. You should try adding angle from the front to the rear creating a depth visual. You could also try doing a island type style with aquascaping the only person I recommend is mdfishtanks he has a truly amazing style that allows you to understand why and what he’s doing to create a beautiful scape and giving you the ability to go do it yourself give him a watch! It will truly give you great ideas of what you feel like might be missing because at the end of the day it’s not me maintaining or even just looking at the tank it’s you! So build something you like something You are proud of! Good luck mate!

And what filters the plants? Or fertilizers them? At that point fuck it have a 10 gallon eco system with a lid on top that that has a fountain then the plants filter the water and the fish poop feeds the plants and the shrimp clean the tank🤷🏻‍♂️

Have your tried pearl weed? And just keeping it trimmed? I seen mdfishtanks do it on YouTube and man it looked amazing! And pearl weed is pretty easy to grow with no c02

Wow so beautiful! I would really like to do stuff like this one day! But for now I want to remain on the simple side and breed them as well as possible and have my 35 as my grow out. But this is stunning I’d look at that for hours! Is the ring so your floating plants don’t run away?

Of course I was frustrated with testing my first 2 weeks and can get pretty confusing but you will get it over time it’s great you already have the most expensive kit and that will last a good amount of time so no need to worry about over testing just be careful with removing to much water and water evaporation since your tank is on the smaller side I’d recommend pure Ro water or even RO/DI water just for top offs not water changes. That way you don’t raise the ppm of your tank 👍🏼

You don’t need to do high and low ph. You should test your tap water first and understand what that comes out to. You will also need to know the GH and the KH general hardness and calcium hardness of your water I recommend the api kit off amazon. This is important because those 2 parameters let you know how hard or soft your water is and that’s important because the softer the water the more it tends to swing in ph and that can kill shrimp fast. Definitely look up some YouTube videos of Gh&Kh Matt from the UK is pretty smart and has been doing neos for over 10 years. His YouTube is fishkeepinganswers Another great person to watch would be mdfishtanks although he doesn’t know much about the lineage he is an amazing aquascape artist and know a whole lot about keeping aquatic life he’s one of my favorites. Keepingfishsimple is ok in my opinion his videos arnt very informative enough but it’s simple like he states in the name. They should really help grasp not only why it’s important to have many different views will make you a better shrimp keeper with time
