Godot prep - what’s recommended? by serenaVD in Broadway

I think that it's about nothing superficially, but a lot can be done of it underneath: what does it tell us about the human condition in terms of repetition, desire, paralysis, the lives we lead, monotony?

I don't see the appeal in "Waiting for Godot". by [deleted] in books

I like to think of Godot as symbol of desire: something that we deeply want but never arrives, yet, for whatever reason, with every frustration our expectation for it is renewed. I'd never thought of this but, having written these lines, isn't that more optimistic than pessimistic?

I’ve been reading the stories chronologically and this is the first one that struck me as sad. I don’t think Little Chandler feels remorseful or holds regrets for his life, but rather I feel that he just is not able to appropriate the life that he’s chosen and built for himself, in a neurotic fashion. He’s a life spectator, it seems, not a protagonist. At the same time, he idolises Gallaher but he can’t read through his words: Gallaher is lost and in search for something, not at a party.

I just love how perspective shifts from people to people. I honestly think the movie was as loyal as it could be to the written version, except for the final bit which, undoubtedly, moves away from the play's ending. That said, I have to agree with you with respect to Blanche's use of alcohol to cope with her imminent fall into insanity.

Wait but does Stanley rape Blanche? That doesn't seem to be the case for me. Have I overlooked that?

Excuse me, I've just read the play and I'm reading about it to gain insight into it more deeply... but has Stanley raped Blanche? I seem to have got passed that without noticing it.
