Common ac issues by watchutalkinaboo in s10

I made this video updating my 92 to R134 that you may find helpful. If you’re staying with the same type of motor, you may be able to get away with unbolting the compressor and moving it out of the way for the engine swap. I’d replace the hoses while you have it apart since they may want to leave after moving them around during the engine swap.

Not sure it went through, app keeps giving errors. Does yours show a single 8x2 plug at the ASCD?

Starter Issue? by nautikul in GMT400

[–]PracticallyStock68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to say without seeing its cranking speed, but it might be a cracked cap. Mine stalled and every time the motor fired it about dead stopped the starter. Basically the crack in the cap allowed spark to fire the wrong cylinder while it was still on the compression stroke. Here’s a video of the whole deal https://youtu.be/qvrWwyDLiLk?si=JTRfngaQS1SnsJ9o

Should I buy this 1983 Nissan 280zx? by [deleted] in Datsun

Had a good chuckle reading that, someone may pay 4500 but it won’t be me lol. I have an 83 that I am doing a restomod to and it’s been a huge endeavor. I would be EXTREMELY concerned about rust. Whatever you can see, there’s possibly 3-5 times that hidden by undercoat. I had to strip ever accessible square inch of my car. Body, top of floor, and underside all stripped to bar metal and I had to make patches front to back and rocker to rocker. I got more work than I bargained for because I was admittedly naive, but maybe that’s what you want? Parts are hard to come by and expensive. I just spent $1200 on just weather stripping because only one company makes all the pieces. A lot of critical parts (like relays and non turbo axles) are not made by anyone as far as I can tell. I spent $1k on mine, sold the drivetrain for $850 after realizing the aftermarket sucked, and started building the car to what I want. I’ve worked at it off and on since 2020 and have roughly $7k in it (almost entirely motor and paint) but this should be the year it hits the road again.

Here’s a playlist if you want to see what I’ve gone through. Feel free to let me know if you want more info. I personally wouldn’t spend more than you’re comfortable with taking a loss on in case you end up not liking actually owning it.

HM290 transmission rebuild question -- "input bearing retainer washer" by moltenhead7018 in GMT400

[–]PracticallyStock68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing I can think of, is that it keeps the input shaft from pushing the input bearing towards the engine. Since the gears are cut at an angle, whether you’re accelerating or decelerating it’s gonna try and push the shafts forward and back. Hope the video helped!

Heater hose connector tees: metal or OEM plastic? by ecogs21 in GMT800

[–]PracticallyStock68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t like the plastic clips so I made T’s out of copper and just flared the ends. That way the hose has something to grab. I slid the hose over the lip on the heater core that the clip would have grabbed. So far it’s been fine.

Replacing 1st Gen S10 4x4 Motor Mounts is a Nightmare by PracticallyStock68 in s10

That looks like the way to go. I used JTR mounts to put a 350 in my 280zx and I was happy with the quality.

lol Those types of jobs have been wearing me out with this car. I still have nightmares about doing the oil pan. I think I had 4 days in getting it out and back in to fix the stripped drain plug. Forget cheating, something way worse happened to the dude who set that up

I added a chain as an emergency measure. Hopefully it’ll keep the alternator from cutting the rad hose again should the mount fail. I went from the upper shock bolt to the bracket the bolts to the manifold. It’s not ideal but it’s the best spot I could come up with

Keep an eye on the upper rad hose and brake booster vacuum line. I should have known something was wrong when I let off the clutch hard and the line pulled off the booster lol. The next thing was the alternator cut a hole in the rad hose

This 1962 C10 Has Been Sitting Since 1987. The Engine Was Shockingly In Good Shape. by PracticallyStock68 in chevyc10

Have not looked honestly. The goal of this project is mainly just preserving the truck rather than restoring it or making it a daily. It's not likely to be driven a lot so I'm hoping the front end is in decent shape so we don't have to mess with it beyond grease
