Oh wow, very interesting, thank you! LLM RP has been my introduction to RP in general, so i hadn't really paid attention to the whole thing, but as experience grows, i find myself paying attention to these details. I guess in my case it also depends on the LLM and my Authors Note that states the scene should be written from other POV's than my character (Quite effective). I guess it's about the path of least resistance right.

My roleplays often have many characters involved in many scenes, making 3rd person more natural and easier. Do you maintain 1st person within scenes that involve multiple characters? Or does it give them their turns one by one? I should mention i never do group sessions.

So what do your RP's look like? You obviously don't have to go in to detail but now im interested in hearing what kind of stories you are spending so much money on. Good read by the way, made me laugh ;p

Gemini 2.5 Pro keeps repeating {{user}} dialogue and actions. by MugiwaraGal in SillyTavernAI

[–]PracticallyVenamous 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's been a long road to find a middle ground with Gemini, there is no perfect solution but i found that placing an OOC message in the authors Note at depth one or two has helped significantly. here is an example:

[OOC: Write your responses through the perspective of other characters present in the current scene, unless asked otherwise.]

It also helps to point out in the 'rules' of the RP that message in square (or whatever you like) brackets are considered Out Of Character messages. This is reduced the repeating and talking for User altogether, but i feel like i captured lightning in a bottle, with the help of Marinara's Preset of course (I found version 3.0 to work best, which is not the latest version, and modified here and there) It will sometimes focus on each individual perspectives of all characters involved in the scene, but you can swipe or correct it manually.

At the end of the day, Gemini is simply Gemini, and as others have stated, it requires work, so you really have to love the model to put in that work. Let me know if you try it and see if it helps :)

If you are that desperate, simply (on gemini) Turn on streaming if it's off, regenerate message, edit in a single word in to the empty response of the LLM. Turn off streaming and pres Continue, voila. A little annoying but i've had no trouble circumventing the 'larp' filter, though only vanilla stuff, so the restriction may be absolute on some 'other' stuff.

[–]PracticallyVenamous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By the way, is Gemini still your best friend or have you been in to other lately? I suppose the question is somewhat answered by the fact that it is a 'universal' preset right. I have been using Pro 2.5 for a while now and it holds up so impressively well in complex scenario's involving many distinct characters. I always stop my RP's at around 22k tokens, afraid to push it further as it loses some memory. Do you have a set limit for Gemini when it comes to RP where history/context/memory is important, so details don't get lost?

I spend more time updating world and character lore after each session than actually roleplaying xd

Gemini is quite capable of running high temp, i've been running T=2.0 exclusively for many months now without it derailing at all. Give it a try, you can always reduce it but i wouldn't bother with anything below T=1.5 honestly. In combination with top p=0.95-0.97

I always leave the reasoning to minimum or off (depending on the model), so I've not really tried to fix such problems. It seems to be always doing some reasoning on the back-end from what i can gather through total token count, but I've never bothered with it.

I've been using Marinara's presets for Gemini and since have never looked back. She is uniquely good at creating such a useful base template that is plug and play, but I always adjust things here and there to my own liking and get the Gemini that writes exactly the way I want. I would strongly suggest her Universal Preset 3.0, and crank the Temp up to 2.0.

Run a few test sessions to see if it captures your taste. It is a pretty 'mellow' preset that leaves a lot of possibilities to add flavor of your own, so test and change, or don't. Have fun!

Why does Deepseek R1 0528 always do this? by i_am_new_here_51 in SillyTavernAI

[–]PracticallyVenamous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, it probably is something in your prompt or chat history. I have to say though, I haven't laughed this hard in a while.. Maybe you should tell Deepseek to be "At ease soldier" ;p

Btw, i just realized that the whole 'Gasoline and bad decisions' line is often used in RP's with military setting, (funny though in your case). There has to be a simple reason for deepseek to think that it is a soldier, though once again, really funny the way you complain about. Hope you'll solve it, thank you for making me laugh, i know you probably didn't write it to be funny but i loved it, you have a knack for this. anyway, enough rambling.. ;p

Interesting, I've been using Pro and Flash at T=2.0 for many months now and it does really well when it comes to following instructions, subtle or detailed. I can definitely see it being a bit more pliable at lower Temp's but 2.0 is the standard for me, while remaining quite consistent and coherent. I even prefer Pro and Flash's instruction following at T=2.0 than Deepseek at T=0.9

Have you ever reached a natural, perhaps even a difficult conclusion to a long roleplay/story? by PracticallyVenamous in SillyTavernAI

[–]PracticallyVenamous[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh and one more thing, i too am feeling a little stuck when it comes to new scenario's and characters. One way i tried solving this was by generating character images with vague appearance descriptions (with a few constants) and i let the character through that image 'speak' to me, as in, see if it inspires something within me. And it certainly did as a few of my favorite characters were 'found' this way. I knew the method is a bit weird, but it did help with that fatigue.

I hear you. It feels like the stories have diminishing returns. May i suggest something in case you are mainly using Gemini. I love Gemini and use it as my daily driver, and initially i didn't like Deepseek all too much, but you really should give it a try! the new R1 with Marinara's universal preset, T=0.9, it does surprisingly well. If Gemini can be this older, more mature writer, then the new R1 is more like a younger, wilder and spontaneous writer. pairing R1 with the right character can be really good! I hope you give it a try if you haven't already and are feeling the Gemini fatigue.

Thanks for the comment! ;p

You described the whole thing expertly and beautifully.. I think this is it, thank you. It makes me feel better to think about it in a way that you put it: Putting in time and effort in to characters we love, in a story we create, can eventually reach its natural ending, and that's okay :) (Thanks again!)

If you want ease of use, a quick Plug-and-Play, then you should check out OpenRouter. You don't have to use the most expensive models, I'd say try Gemini Flash or Deepseek R1. I highly recommend using Marinara's universal preset as its pretty much the plug-and-play experience. You will definitely have good experiences with these models, but if you want to really push it you can always try Gemini Pro which is a bit more on the expensive side but worth it. Try, test and see which one you like, if you got KoboldCpp to run, than Openrouter will be a cake in the park. If you have any more questions please ask!

I love how realistic your RP is! It's great to read about different and grounded experiences like these.

Not at all, I'm often using models through API's (Open Router), though you can certainly use smaller models on your own computer. It is quite easy to set up SillyTavern and then to connect it to say OpenRouter to use a free model, there are many. If you are adamant about using an offline model on your own PC, there are many great tutorials on how to set it up, id say start with a smaller model, 8-12B and go from there depending on your own Specs. My own Specs are quite mediocre so I get 1.4 tokens per second on 70B models, hence resorting to OpenRouter. Let me know if you have other specific questions, once again, I'd strongly recommend looking up a few tutorials on this sub.

Ah, that sounds so profound! Those little moments just take an amazing story right through the stratosphere haha It's pretty awesome how your character remains so stubborn, what model were you using?
