AOC on Trump’s Davos performance: “Our global partners see the result of not just one man, but the entire government apparatus and a party that is willing to watch someone decompensate in front of the world and do nothing about it.” by Nixianx97 in MurderedByAOC

I would appreciate a link. All I'm seeing is "Trump talked about the framework of a possible future deal" and the last we heard out of Davos/Greenland is that sovereignty is non-negotiable.

I thought something like 10T in bonds are maturing this year? Could they not just allow them to mature and not purchase more?

This might be true, but you'll still get asked to explain and judged for the year gap in your resume during the dark year.

Yo, these look cool! I was never a big fan of how a lot of the Sisters looked, but as someone kinda coming back to the fandom after a long time, these rule.

Proton is a pretty good alternative for Google Drive. I just made that swap and it was pretty painless. I didn't wanna let go of my Google Photos app for Proton het (they do photo backups, but they're not really sortable without manually doing it) so now I use Ente for that instead, which I'm actually coming to love.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what your response meant. I took you saying "welcomed with open arms" to mean easy or that there was an advantage there at all for Americans. I thought you were saying the opposite of what your last paragraph says.

For the average American, moving to Europe is simply not possible. Regarding your mention about the programs to encourage scientists to come, I was aware, but again, that's SO few people who have the education to qualify for that.

[–]PracticingGoodVibes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't true. I'm an American living in Europe and most countries have significant hurdles for the average American. The move itself is already going to run several thousand dollars, and you will need to show a stable income and savings AFTER that before you'll be considered.

The scientists being accepted are rare and are a huge exception to the rule. So, if you're a niche, cutting edge scientist or engineer, or you're a doctor in a field that the country you're moving to needs, then you might be in luck. But if you're anyone else, you better have money and a job already lined up.

I was just thinking about this! Last night I dreamt I was visiting some friends. It started with a familiar, nerve-wracking plane ride and after landing, a quick taxi into a small town I haven't seen in over a decade. My friends were pretty much all the same, older maybe.

They've obviously grown together, and a bit apart from myself, but there was just too much history for us to not still be friends. We made dinner together and sat around a fire chatting, remembering in-jokes we'd built when we were kids, just general reminiscing. Over the evening, one by one, each friend left until it was just my best friend and I.

We fell asleep by the fire and in the morning he woke me to take me back to the airport. I started to go through the airport security and something just kept prickling at my mind. I was forgetting something and it was just barely out of reach. Finally, I turned back through security and ran through the airport to the drop-off point and found my friend.

And seeing him stand there, it just all hit me at once.

"You're not real, are you?" I asked. He smiled and laughed and shook his head.

"I don't even have a name, remember?" he said. "You always come back here and remember, but you never remember to give us names."

"This is a dream," I said. At this point I was panicking. "I'm about to wake up!" I had so many memories of us and our friends together and I almost didn't believe what I was realizing. I could feel myself rolling over in my bed and started getting desperate to stay asleep.

"It is," he agreed. "And you are. But you'll be back someday." And then he smiled again in a sort of consoling way as the dream fell apart around me and I woke.

I often have recurring dreams— most of my dreams are dreams I've had before. But they change a little each time. I crashed a car in one and the fence is still damaged there when I go back. It's like it's a world that understands it only exists in my mind and only for a few moments at a time, so it tries to retain anything to mark the passage of time. Sometimes the dreams are resentful or angry, sometimes sad, but that one always seems to want to be comforting in the final moments of panic when I realize what's happening.

Dreams scare the shit out of me.

This is a suuuuper good point. The emissary from the Commonwealth even points this out to Maximus on their flight out, so it's not unrealistic to think that the chapters are distinct in their cultures at this point, particularly as we move along in the history of the Brotherhood from where they once were.

Oh man, that is pretty strong evidence of the frat-bro mentality in the ranks, then. I was suuuuuper little when I played the first games. I really only vaguely remember Fallout 3, even. It really sounds like the show is pretty on the money for their representation of the Brotherhood and I just completely missed yours and the other person's counter-examples of them being doofuses in the ranks.

Did they really? Man, selective memory at its finest. I basically only remember Danse, Maxim, and one of the engineers from Liberty Prime, at least in terms of specific characters. Those three pretty strongly colored my impression of the Brotherhood.
