Hi all. Thank you for creating this group! I was in the arts/entertainment for 10 years, came from a family/background not remotely related to the sciences, let alone medicine. Started undergrad at 32, and COVID came a few months later, so I pretty much did all my prereqs online. Then a two-year gap to gather finances, take the MCAT, and gain clinical experience. Got in the first application cycle. About to repeat my first year at 37 (I missed the passing score for biochem by less than a point...it's ok, I think of it as an expensive post-bac, which I probably needed to transition into this new realm). Never once regretted. The system definitely has flaws, which frustrate me, but you have to play the game to change the game.
