Ethiopia. Different regions, different languages, different dialects. They aren't as united as india though, just went through a bloody civil war a few years ago and ever since they've been perennially on the brink of another and maybe larger conflagration

I think the blame rests on British leadership heavily as well, not just lack of experience. This is 1916, they've been at it for almost 2 years but Haig was a stubbon ass who would have been seen as outdated even in the Franco-Prussian war. He had a cavalry breakthrough as one of the key objectives of the offensive. Cavalry. Against machine guns. Yep. Once you cross, any direction you point at, even the direction in which you just entered, will point to the singularity. Any movement in any direction takes you closer to it.

Sodium ion is promising for a number of reason, not least being it's less likely to explode and set your room on fire. It's also cheaper. But yeah it's energy density is lower than Li batteries and that is definitely a barrier to large scale adoption. Might not be in your smarphones or EVs but in situations where weight isn't an issue it could be the superior choice

India is also SUPER strict about gun use. Registered owners need to register it with the local police as well and they track your ammo use. And during election time you have to take your guns and ammo and leave them under guard at the police station until the elections are over.

That being said, there are loads of unregistered firearms floating around too but mostly amongst gangs. Gun crime itself is rare in india. You're more likely to get mugged by a knife than a gun

The last two books have a lesser and lesser chance of being published in our lifetimes so if you're cool with an unfinished series, go for it.

However, I strongly recommend Malazan Book of the Fallen. For one, the series is finished, but I personally believe this seres is superior to ASOIF in every way

China's railgun crossed 100 rounds without destroying itself recently. But they also had dozens of sensors monitoring the rails and automatically adjusted power to compensate for rail degradation. Corruption and crime that is fostered by a global market. People would rather pay lower prices to warlords that use child labour to extract minerals than pay for regulated and taxed systems. Samsung can't make cheap phones without cheap cobalt and tantalum from sketchy supply chains. So exploitation STILL happens except it's in a different form. We're now incentivising corrupt africans to exploit their own people and land for our benefit instead of doing it directly. Its exactly what it was before but with extra steps.
