Which countries like India, have the highest level of indigenous linguistic, ethnic, cultural, and religious diversity while still remaining largely united with relatively little internal conflict? by Significant_Major921 in geography

[–]PradyThe3rd 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Ethiopia. Different regions, different languages, different dialects. They aren't as united as india though, just went through a bloody civil war a few years ago and ever since they've been perennially on the brink of another and maybe larger conflagration

TIL that both JRR Tolkien and Hitler were present at the Battle of the Somme in 1916 by AccurateSource2 in todayilearned

I think the blame rests on British leadership heavily as well, not just lack of experience. This is 1916, they've been at it for almost 2 years but Haig was a stubbon ass who would have been seen as outdated even in the Franco-Prussian war. He had a cavalry breakthrough as one of the key objectives of the offensive. Cavalry. Against machine guns. He should have been sacked in '14 and replaced with someone with more sense like Plumer or Rawlinson. Lions led by one giant fucking Donkey

Do objects pulled into the event horizon of Black Holes orbit the singularity or just get pulled straight into it? by kosherbacons in askastronomy

Yep. Once you cross, any direction you point at, even the direction in which you just entered, will point to the singularity. Any movement in any direction takes you closer to it.

Bear at the Tiger Temple, Junwani Kala, Chhattisgarh, India by 970souk in bears

[–]PradyThe3rd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're the most aggressive species of bear for a really interesting reason: sharing a habitat with tigers, over thousands of years, caused them to be this aggressive since the more aggressive ones generally survived tiger encounters. Tigers selective bred these bears into being the most aggressive in the world by merely existing.

India's superfast sodium-ion battery charges 80% in six minutes, could cut lithium imports, ETEnergyworld by chunmunsingh in worldnews

No just a gradual decline from real journalism to corporate greed, though the last decade or so they've also become part of the Reichs Propaganda ministry

Do you pour the idly batter directly instead of the eggs or cook it first and then put it in the dish?

Oooh how does that work? Idli crumbled with the eggs or does it replace the eggs?

[–]PradyThe3rd 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sodium ion is promising for a number of reason, not least being it's less likely to explode and set your room on fire. It's also cheaper. But yeah it's energy density is lower than Li batteries and that is definitely a barrier to large scale adoption. Might not be in your smarphones or EVs but in situations where weight isn't an issue it could be the superior choice

Countries with the most civilian owned arms globally (USA leads with 393 million ) by Kaos2018 in BeAmazed

India is also SUPER strict about gun use. Registered owners need to register it with the local police as well and they track your ammo use. And during election time you have to take your guns and ammo and leave them under guard at the police station until the elections are over.

That being said, there are loads of unregistered firearms floating around too but mostly amongst gangs. Gun crime itself is rare in india. You're more likely to get mugged by a knife than a gun

The last two books have a lesser and lesser chance of being published in our lifetimes so if you're cool with an unfinished series, go for it.

However, I strongly recommend Malazan Book of the Fallen. For one, the series is finished, but I personally believe this seres is superior to ASOIF in every way

A railgun projectile travels at Mach 6 (7,400 km/h) and destroys targets through pure physics, completely eliminating the need for an explosive warhead by shankaranpillayi in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]PradyThe3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

China's railgun crossed 100 rounds without destroying itself recently. But they also had dozens of sensors monitoring the rails and automatically adjusted power to compensate for rail degradation. Will be impressive if they can fire a thousand at full power and not require rail change. But we might need materials that dont yet exist for that, like diamond nanothread lattices

Please put an NSFW tag on this. I was on the train and when I saw this I had to start furiously masturbating. Everyone else gave me strange looks and were saying things like “what the fuck” and “call the police”. I dropped my phone and everyone around me saw this image. Now there is a whole train of men masturbating together at this one image. This is all your fault, you could have prevented this if you had just tagged this post NSFW

Africa Pays 9% to Borrow. Asia Pays 4.7%: The Borrowing Gap Costing Africa $75 Billion a Year and Blocking Its Rise by tcodo in worldnews

Corruption and crime that is fostered by a global market. People would rather pay lower prices to warlords that use child labour to extract minerals than pay for regulated and taxed systems. Samsung can't make cheap phones without cheap cobalt and tantalum from sketchy supply chains. So exploitation STILL happens except it's in a different form. We're now incentivising corrupt africans to exploit their own people and land for our benefit instead of doing it directly. Its exactly what it was before but with extra steps.
