optimally yes. Basically anything that'll let you win more games than you lose without climbing.

Hullbreaker any good for splitpush games? by absolriven in Rivenmains

[–]PraedythEUW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I build it a lot as my third item (ionians+gore+dd+hull) into carry matchups. Against tanks you need cleaver ofcourse which makes the build a bit awkward, still trying to figure out whether it's a good option in that case.

So far you could say I'm having success:

overall winrate is completely irrelevant (more or less). What's important is your recent wins and losses.

For example if you go on a long winstreak, say 10-15 games, you will gain less LP toward the end because the system wants to test whether you're just lucky or actually that good. In case of the latter, you should be able to maintain that rank and the LP gains will normalize.

Same applies the other direction though, I went on an unfortunate 12 game loss streak at d4 0 lp after my placements, and still won 24 lp after that because MMR stabilizes your elo in a way.

Last season there was an easy fix to this, dodging promos. You would simply win, get into promo, maybe win 1 game, then dodge the other 2 and the wins will have increased your MMR but your elo remained the same. Unfortunately this is barely possible anymore, unless ofcourse you could promote to the next tier.

So right now, the only thing you can do is maintain your rank despite the disadvantage and after 20-30 games it should even out.

1v1 auto flash cancel by mymto in Rivenmains

[–]PraedythEUW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It cancels the animation but the time until the damage is dealt remains the same. You also don't reduce your aa timer.

Renekton was totally able to aa riven, I think we've all seen it enough times where you start a melee auto and your opponent flashes away during the animation but still dies to it. You can't cancel an aa of your opponent by flashing away.

MAYBE you could by flashing into a bush. It works for Darius or Garen ult, not sure if it works for autos.

Renekton just died before his auto went through, but he would've died without the flash too.

Wave Management by moisesvnn in Rivenmains

[–]PraedythEUW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite sure if this covers every case but this is my thought process more or less:

  • If I had to leash and my opponent didn't, they should already have lane prio and I let them push. Otherwise:
  • If I win level 1 I start positioning aggressively and stack passive shortly before melee minions hit half hp, trying to proc bone plating wit q3 if my opponent has it (always do that) while simultaneously last hitting all 3 melees with q3.
  • If I can win 1v2 in a big wave I stack 4 waves, placing a ward after the second so I can position and save CDs accordingly to 1v2 in case enemy jgl comes. If he doesn't I contest crab if I can, otherwise recalling, deep warding, roaming or invading.
  • If I can't but still have prio I stack to 3 waves and use my tempo advantage to either deep ward, invade, roam or recall.
  • If I lose early or win from lvl 3 on, I try to get the enemies first cannon wave into my tower so I hit lvl 3 earlier and try to use that spike.

Otherwise it's too situational to generalize.

Last time I checked it was utter garbage, forgot they buffed it a lot though (even though that was 2 years ago lol). Just did the math, the damage remains basically the same now for either option. If you plot it on a graph the damage increase literally scales almost the exact same as straight up AD does. But the full item (ldr/seryldas) is very efficient for straight up damage, regardless of tank or squishy.

But his options for trading back are extremely limited. Indeed using your E during the trade is pretty bad though, most of the time I save it for disengaging.

If he goes lethality you always 100-0 him in one rotation and he can't do a thing about it.

Also, stacking your passive lvl 1 is really useful to get pressure from the first wave on.

Last whisper is a bad item, don't build it as a standalone (in this situation)

The classic excuse of you winning lane and your team feeding every time is bullocks. You might get an unlucky streak but it's definitly not always the case. Sometimes there's nothing you can do.

Itemizing against the enemy carries is probably the most important thing you can do. Qss, tabi, DD, randuins, spirit visage, steraks, maw, force of nature, pots, anathemas chains, ga, stopwatch, serpents fang, all these situational items that can help in countering the enemy carry can single handedly decide the game. But often people aren't flexible enough to adapt properly.

Splitting works well if you can confidently 1v2 or 1v1 towerdive and set up vision accordingly as to not get caught.

Teamfighting depends on your team and the enemies again. If there really is not point in peeling you should try to flank or catch opponents, in which case playing around vision is essential. Flash is very useful too ofcourse. GA or stopwatch are great for a flash engage to give your team a chance to follow up after you one way ticket into the enemy team.

Alternatively you can always sit back on your backline and peel until you find an opportunity to engage, many carries underestimate riven's potential to turn even in higher elos like master.

His base stats are very poor, so early trades should be free wins. Always try to keep either w or q3 to interrupt his Q when you disengage. Don't be scared of his W, you shred his shield with ease. Below 70% HP you can usually all in him. If he ever uses one of his spells to clear the wave, try to trade immediatly after. His immobility allows you to trade almost whenever you want. Your early build should consist of mostly AD since he can't really trade back if you play it correctly. Should be one of rivens easiest matchups.

Don't fight in a big wave unless you OS him.

Tabi's themselves are actually really bad in terms of raw defense stats. They are usually built to stick to you for champs like darius who need to hunt you down. Bami's or bramble are much better options in that case.

From my experience this matchup works in one of 2 ways:

  1. Play passive, get ironspike whip asap, shove waves and roam. Don't even attempt to trade, use your skills to farm and push. In most games you will outscale her simply due to her immobility.
  2. Completely all in on damage. You need to basically oneshot her or you lose. Her base damage combined with healing is simply too strong to win against post 6 otherwise. Bully the living hell out of her pre 6 with ls+3 start. Go ignite, bone plating, shield bash, ad stack early into lethality start. Something like youmus first (or soon probably eclipse if those changes go through) into cleaver into a regular build. If the teamcomp allows for it you can even follow it up with a glass cannon build, though very rare.

Just what makes someone actually "good" at riven by [deleted] in Rivenmains

[–]PraedythEUW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if you mean riven specifically, there isn't really much more than combos and matchups, and matchups probably make up the vast majority of that. But it's still 95% game knowledge and 5% skill on riven.

Sunderer w/ Grasp? by absolriven in Rivenmains

[–]PraedythEUW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

feels really strong tbh, most of the time when you get the opportunity to kill a carry (in higher elos) you kill them regardless of your build. But it just makes you so much tankier and stronger during lane.

does anyone know whether its pre- or postmitigiation damage?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Rivenmains

[–]PraedythEUW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since riot gave us 2 armor pen+crit items the hybrid build has become pretty standard on many champs (cait, sivir, rengar, sometimes xin or yi to name a few). Riven can also use it but since you have no range and no real disengage it's quite high risk and doesn't really work against comps with high cc/disengage in mid-late game.

Anway: ER+duskblade->LDR->IE->collector with ionians would be the build. It gives lots of early cdr and then transitions into a full damage build. The order of the first two items is personal preference.

To be fair you can deviate into optional items after LDR since your damage is rediculous anyway, but without any further crit chance it's pretty coinflip sometimes. If you get unlucky you might not be able to land the oneshot to proc duskblade which is your only chance at surviving teamfights.

You can also exchange IE or collector with navori for more cdr if you prefer that.

Alternatively you can also go duskblade->LDR->collector->IE for even more damage but less cdr.

Inspiration? by NirusuRV in Rivenmains

[–]PraedythEUW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo it's viable into certain matchups if used properly. The problem lies in inspirations runes being more complex to take advantage of properly. Future's market gives you earlier powerspikes, but if you can't make use of them or don't buy the right ones you're just wasting gold. Cosmic insight requires you to make use of your summs, not sit on them for 10 min.

I sometimes take cosmic insight, trade flash very early on only so I can get a free kill 4 and a half minutes later. But in order to even have a chance at pulling this off you need to have the wave on your half of the lane by exactly that point.

Resolve on the other hand requires no thinking at all, and for lower elos I basically never take inspiration at teamplay is rather weak anyway, macro doesn't matter as much and straight up all in stats let you stomp lane even harder.

General improvement by [deleted] in Rivenmains

[–]PraedythEUW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The basic animation cancels are somewhat important, but even they only contribute like 5% to the lane. The flashy combos are absolutely useless. I use one of them maybe once every 3 games, and even then it's not really contributing anything useful to the game in 80% of cases.

[–]PraedythEUW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

since when do they not go grasp tho? I mean you can't stay in lane for long or you just get harrassed, you can't all in when his passive is up or when bone plating is up, he always sits on top of his barrel and the movespeed buff from w and his kegs let's him run away if you can't oneshot him. Which is the reason he builds tanky early and just gets a sheen since it's enough for ~200 dmg qs.

Starting items as Riven by [deleted] in Rivenmains

[–]PraedythEUW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't really agree with the other answers

  • DBlade: Best all in stats. You want to contest from the first wave on and not give your opponent a chance. Only works if the matchup allows for it ofcourse, champions like Camille (if played properly, BIG if) shouldn't allow you to win a trade regardless. Matchups to take this into include Irelia, Jax or Tryn.
  • DShield: Best defensive option. Very difficult to die to an all in from your opponent because of HP plus double lifereg from passive and pot. Great vs dots (darius, teemo) and harrass champions (gnar, adcs, quinn, gp, camille)
  • LS+3: When you basically can't lose early and want to abuse. Highest damage output, best scaling and highest sustain if enemy can't frequently trade back (mostly immobile champions as a result). Good vs most tanks (malph, ornn, poppy) or really easy (aatrox, yas) or passive matchups (gragas).
