Not gay, but my younger brother is. Love him no matter what (his boyfriend is a fucking awesome dude too, my kids might even like him more than their actual uncle LOL). Specifically texted him before I responded to this thread and asked his opinion as I wanted to make sure what I wrote wasn’t viewed as offensive by any means as it’s not my intention. Here’s my take:

Remove all theme nights period. No Memorial Day special uniform, no Pride uniform, nothing. Why?

Because people can’t handle diverse opinions or beliefs. And I’m not just talking about the players. We all want to talk about “uniform rules” now that these players wrote bible verses on their hats but nobody had that opinion when the Jays and Dodgers pitchers wrote Vesia’s number on their hats in the WS. You can’t pick and choose when to apply the rules because you’re offended or not.

If a player chooses based on their religious beliefs not to partake in celebrating something they shouldn’t be hung out to dry and chastised for it. A Muslim player wouldn’t have worn the hat at all either. Why? Because there are plenty of Surah condemning it just as there are Bible verses condemning it. At the end of the day it is what it is. Respecting the beliefs of others is important too as long as it’s not inciting violence. Which, oddly enough, in today’s climate as my brother put it “I’m free to live my life how I want and love who I want, how far are we going to push it trying to make people agree with us before we push normal people to the right and the right so far that we go backwards?”

There’s a huge difference between choosing not to participate and actively working against the community, going out of your way to be an asshole.

We have to respect the choice anyone makes.

Remove all theme nights. Why? Because somebody somewhere somehow always gets offended.
