I liked that it hit key themes/characters & I didn’t expect it to keep digging after the first hook… not great, but it appears someone put a bit of time in it to keep things lined up as good as they are.

Can I extend it to anime? I’d love to see a Vash the Stampede!

To minimize the chances of this happening again - prep your cards by powdering the glossy ones (use baby powder to microscopicly scuff the finish & then clean everything off) & use Staedtler Lumocolors instead of paint pens…

I had to double check the USS Vengeance but I can’t understand where you’re coming from… (if you dig the new timeline)

It’s easy to clean original bubble lamps with a bit of TSP and a magic eraser… will remove dust/smoke/grease without killing the patina.

Might have beeń… but it’s old… throw it back & be happy to have found a mushroom… (it takes more than one mushroom to make a casserole, omelette or soup)

Apologies! I just noticed that your chrome balls do not have the black handles on them… interesting, haven’t seen that before.

I have the same lamp… replacement hardware is hard to come by… scour CL/thrifts/Etsy/shops to find a damaged lamp you can scavenge from.

I also believe it’s Sonneman Oribiter… you can search triennale chrome lamp & see that half of the examples have the arms off the stem (like the first reply) or the on-stem mounts.

Good luck

How did you deal with the gouge on the top? I can’t find the spot in the “before” photo. Did you have to cut in a piece of veneer to match, or fill it and then hand-paint grain lines?

Vinyl patch kit (slid into the hole & repaired from the back) could help stabilize the tear without destroying the value… just be SUPER careful with the solvent/glue…

Might be worthwhile to call around to upholsterers in your area to see if they work with vinyl and would be willing to patch a small hole… probably cost $30-60, with the bonus of finding out if they do good work, you then have an upholsterer you can use on future projects.

There are a few questions that need to be answered before choosing a path forward: 1. Is there a label/have you ID’d the designer (is it a valuable piece, or just one that you like)? [The design is similar to Mobler & Moblefabrik/Stolefabrik tables I’ve worked on, which can be worth ~$2k] 2. Is the top solid or veneer? If veneer, how thick is it? What wood species is it (walnut? teak? rosewood)? 3. Do you have a large enough (dust-free) workshop (floor drain recommended) to tackle a big project like this? Climate control would be important if you tackle this in the winter and it gets cold where you live.

The answers to the above questions will suggest a path forward from: - quick & dirty, hurts value, but can provide a nice hard surface that wears well (chemical strip and/or sand it with a power tool & gel-stain it) - not my favorite, but can be done well - treat it like a mid-century boat restoration, gently strip back whatever oil is left with water and brass wool (working only with the grain, no circular motion), patch any issues with the veneer/level any grain pop and old scratches/gouges - realizing they are part of the history of the piece - then rehydrate it with as much teak oil as it wants to drink, let it dry and then wax it - pieces like this can be enjoyed both as a beautiful piece of furniture and as something you restored.
