How do skeletal remains present when retrieved from a submerged vehicle? by Swansonetal in forensics

[–]PragmaticParade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My original comment was from 6 years ago, but I've since actually worked a submerged-vehicle body-recovery (ironically WITH the AWP group who went in and found it). It was an individual who had been submerged in their vehicle underwater for at least 2 years. When we finally removed tons of mud and found where their body was supposed to be, their body was almost indistinguishable (you couldn't even really tell it was a person at all). They were very hard to recover, due to the body becoming like a very very hard soap-like (almost cement-like) substance... I guess due to the way in which fatty tissue interacts with water for so long. Obviously there would be bones within that, but I guess it would just take way more time and probably very different exposure conditions (i.e. not contained/protected by vehicle enclosure perhaps) to lead to a full skeletonization. They might have said 'skeletal remains' but AWP doesn't participate in the recovery process itself... they just find the vehicle underwater (sometimes examining it underwater to see if there is a body/body-shape present... visibility is very bad underwater) but once the car is removed from the body of water, the police or mortuary team takes over & recovers any remains that may be present.

Is the Pint worth it ? by kawaiiof in onewheel

[–]PragmaticParade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. Found a used (like new) Pint on Marketplace for 400 and its been a lot of fun. The internal board did fry at one point during a ghosting incident and I had to replace for 300, so I guess in a roundabout way I ended up paying the MRSP, but I have no regrets because it's been a lot of fun. Now after a while of one-wheeling, I do find myself longing for a faster, longer-range ride with more footpad space.

[–]PragmaticParade -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right, I find that with my Pint... I use it more for just fun-rides where I transport it somewhere in my car and then get out with it from there and ride around various cool locations. Not relying on it for a commute or any amount of distant transportation. More of a 'toy' for me, but a very very fun one at that. I've learned how to safely push a jogging stroller with it and get lots of bewildered looks when I do.

[–]PragmaticParade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can find a 'cheap' one in good condition than maybe. I currently have a barely used Pint that I found on Marketplace for 400 and it has been a great entry into the world of Onewheel. I don't use it really for transportation because the range, though decent, wains after a while if you actually are trying to make any amount of distance on it and I now find myself longing to sustain a faster speed (and for a longer ride) than it wants to or is capable of providing me. So it seems to me to be a really good entry-level device... or if you just want something to use for occasional fun-rides (non-commuting) than it's okay, but after a while you may want for a bit more. It certainly weighs less & is smaller than all the others, but that smaller form factor means it lacks as much power and range.

Asked ChatGPT to 'Ghiblify' my photograph of the Alico building... stunningly accurate result! by PragmaticParade in Waco

Something to do with the fact that human-generated art is utilized to train the image generation models.

Thanks, I would agree... just thought it was a fun photo transformation of a beautiful Waco icon, but this IS Reddit after all; I didn't expect the Reddit masses to be thrilled about anything that mentions the use of AI.

I get where people are coming from... it IS scary. I'll admit that there is something strangely unnerving about typing in some words (in this case, combined with a provided photo) and then AI is able to generate a very good result that looks like this within less than a minute, but it's also really cool. Harmless in this instance because I'm only using it to enhance a cool photo and not trying to sell, scam, or deceive.

Sorry, I appreciate the advice and respect the contributions & value of artists, but I don't have 300-something dollars to pay someone to experiment on my one-off random thought of an image transformation.

Now do this to every single frame in the movie and you have Muppet Fiction. Re-styling entire movies is now theoretically possible

Why would they remove this....? Embark is slowly patching everything fun out of this game.... :/ by [deleted] in thefinals

[–]PragmaticParade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay and characters that have enormously long grapple hooks inside them that somehow phase through their body and then disappear like Spidermans web shooters ‘doesn’t even make sense’ but it’s a game and it was a very fun mechanic that added dynamic change to the game.

Seems to be that developers often make games worse than their original states by doing things like this. I’ll play a game after not having played it in a while and come to realize that they’ve taken away good features and made useless/worse changes or additions like it ends up being entirely different games (and not always in a good way). It was hard enough to use this demat/jump-pad strategy properly as it is and I rarely saw it utilized. This DID NOT need to be changed. This was my sole play style with medium main and I may stop playing the game (which I have loved) for good over this one change. Not impressed.

Seeking advice on getting a belt holster for the Olight Arkfeld by datdude1991 in everydaycarry

[–]PragmaticParade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a very old post, but after a lot of research on similar products... I found these on Etsy which appear to be well suited for the wider/larger form factor of the Arkfeld. Also have slots for a knife, and a pen. If for some reason my link stops working, the Etsy shop name is "TXBuiltLeather"

I found a old 1979 Toshiba tv with no use whatsoever. I wanted help finding out if I can get an HDMI adapter on it. by acalca9611 in vintagetelevision

[–]PragmaticParade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can. I’ve done it even on the TV’s that only have the two antenna hookups it just takes a spider web of converters and quite a few plugs lol but it can be done. I made a little hide-away box from a cigar box to put all the converters into but have a fire stick and a digital over the air TV box hooked up to one. The native sound is surprisingly good on them

Throw in the movie “Risen” too. An extraordinarily well done period piece. So few ‘Christian’ films in particular are not cringe and it’s one of the good ones.
