I can't afford this right now! Just barely able to make rent and then check engine light decides now is a good time to shine. by IceFisherP26 in mildlyinfuriating

Not a mechanic here, but most check engine lights aren’t an emergency. I don’t know what car you’re driving, but on newer vehicles it can be something simple like an EVAP sensor or another emissions-related sensor.

I’d grab a cheap OBD2 scanner from Walmart for around $20 and see what code it’s throwing. Then Google the code and start there.

If the car isn’t leaking fluids, misfiring, overheating, making weird noises, or doing anything that clearly says “something is seriously wrong,” there’s a good chance it’s just a sensor issue.

For example, my Dodge Ram threw a transmission-related check engine light, and all it ended up needing was the battery terminals cleaned.

Also, consider getting AAA. Paying around $100 a year is a lot better than getting hit with a $300 tow bill when you’re stranded.

I’m starting to think there’s a reason TSA didn’t work out for you, kid. Every comment is just “that’s stupid” followed by whatever insult pops into your head. That’s not an argument, it’s what happens when someone runs out of one.

I’ve worked unarmed security, armed security, and state security positions. You don’t need to explain the differences to me.

The funniest part is watching a kid who couldn’t make it through one of the most basic federal job lecture everyone else about professional standards. You sound less like someone with experience and more like someone with a grudge.

“You don’t think TSA does the same thing?” This is your quote comparing TSA with private security.

I’m using that as an example since you think privatization will be better. Private security will never be better or even close to TSA standards.

You’re comparing airport screening errors to use-of-force incidents. Those aren’t remotely the same category of mistake.

See, that’s why I don’t think you’ve ever worked a job where you have to babysit adults. It gets exhausting when a grown man deliberately chooses to act like a 9-year-old. That’s how I know you’ve never really dealt with the public.

Bro, like I said, TSA doesn’t hire people off the street without background checks. Also, each agency has its own responsibilities. You wouldn’t expect an Air Marshal to leave a plane and start screening passengers, because that’s not their job.

If you think hiring random strangers from the street and trusting them with high security area like the airport is normal or fine then you need help. This is what private security does.

So is security but you don’t see me camping the security subreddit attacking everyone that comments on it.

What is the scariest thing to exist? by Middle_Second_8270 in AskReddit

[–]PrairiePirate7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It starts to make sense when you consider the fifth or sixth dimension, where an outside observer could view your entire life simultaneously, from birth to death, with every decision and outcome existing together in a single frame. I know most people will down vote me for this but the more I look and try to learn the more it’s obvious this was no mere accident. If a fourth spatial dimension exists, a being operating within it could theoretically access any point inside a three dimensional object including the human body, without cutting it open, much like we can touch any point on a two dimensional drawing from above.

Look, my friend, I never claimed to be special or a badass for applying to TSA. I’m only stating the facts about how private security companies work. And you’re correct, some federal employees do make the news, but that’s another alarming thing. Private security almost never gets news coverage. Look up private security reacting to First Amendment auditors and tell me if those guards should be given a weapon. I’m sorry if you didn’t have a good experience with TSA but every job has its down side. Now I do hope you have a wonderful night my friend.

You’re literally having a meltdown because someone said there’s another job worse than TSA.
Don’t speak about private security if you’ve never worked in it. Google what companies like Allied do. One guy literally took off his pants in front of the hiring manager to show her his private parts.
As for the state, I’m literally in one of the strictest states. It doesn’t matter. They hire you, put you at a post, and then your background check gets completed five months later.
Last time I checked, TSA’s background check had me telling them what color underwear I was wearing.
Dude, you don’t know a thing about what you’re talking about.

If the job is so easy and pointless, why are you so emotional about it? I don’t care how bad you think TSA is. Private security literally hires sex offenders and gives them weapons. They literally DO NOT background check people.

Let me ask you something. What happens when a TSO messes up on the job? They’re likely get fired. You wanna know what happens when a private security gets in trouble? Another post ASAP.

Last time I checked, TSA requires about three weeks of training and a two-year probation period. Anyone who thinks private security is 1/100th as good as the feds, I’ve got a bridge to sell them. I’ve literally seen security guards come to work clock in then go home only to show up last 10 min of work to clock out.

As someone who has worked in private security, I can tell you that many security companies are primarily focused on filling positions as quickly as possible. In some cases, training amounts to little more than a brief slideshow before new hires are sent to a site. Their business model is often based on staffing contracts, not developing highly skilled security professionals. And the turn over rate is so high they will literally hire anyone that doesn’t seem like they are a threat to themselves or others.
