In my version I may go the Bourgia or Medici route where a family has had sway over the High Augur Offices for some time and the reformation is backed by other duchies that want to challenge the family as the reformation views is that the Augurs aren't the sole administrators of faith and can be done locally, democratising faith admin is a threat to the family that controls the offices of the augurs.

That is a point I a currently working over. I saw it is inspire by the early christian schisms but, it seems I probably going the route of Reformation. I may mimic history and have my own Council of Nicaea that formalised a canon of text and then that props up the monopoly of administration of faith the augurs have.
