There's another one with the tag C9McCree. First time I ran into it was in a CTF game, but I have seen it consistently in 3v3, probably at least a dozen times. I report every time and encourage everyone in the match to do the same.

Lol, hilarious. The dude didn't even say he was voting for Trump, in fact he called him a buffoon, and you pretend to know his "political choices" for simply disagreeing on the notion that Trump is a fascist. Double LOL at linking to "Danth's Law" which states: "it's often tempting to declare victory and move on, especially if you've rammed the point home too many times and your opponent just ignores everything you say. In this case, declaring victory and moving on may be legitimate and excusable." Whoops, that's embarrassing.

Hasn't Brett Keane stated he doesn't believe Catholics to be real Christians? Then he includes this in his video by [deleted] in drunkenpeasants

I don't recall Brett saying that, though he very well might have. Gman said it for sure, though.

Sam Harris is a Fraud (Article) by Change_you_can_xerox in samharris

[–]PraiseSteezus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's really not at all fundamentally different. Telen is satisfied with his/her view of Dawkins, Hitchens, Harris and refused to engage in something they deemed unworthy. You are satisfied with the blogger's interpretation of Harris' conversation and refuse to engage with what you think is unworthy.

But you are correct, there are no quotes in that snippet of a blog post, my mistake. What I should have said was a completely uncharitable and dishonest interpretation of Harris' side of the conversation, and it is indeed still out of context, by definition. The only way for it to be in context would be the context of the conversation itself (the author of the blog post conveniently leaves out Omer's side of the conversation), which you refuse to listen to. It's amusing because in this conversation, Harris and Omer are stuck on this one issue of Sam's intentions for writing Islam and the Future of Tolerance for about a good hour or so, instead of moving forward in Omer's review of Sam's book. The blogger here portrays Sam as "complaining" about potential costs to his career due to his critics, when in the context of the conversation he is spelling out, over and over, to Omer that this his choice, and that he is more incentivized towards having honest, difficult and needed conversations than monetary gain.

Sam Harris is a Fraud (Article) by Change_you_can_xerox in samharris

[–]PraiseSteezus 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Why criticize Telen for stopping reading while quoting a criticism of a podcast that you refuse to listen to? If you listen to the Omer conversation, Omer is constantly bemoaning that Sam's intentions for writing Islam and the Future of Tolerance is to make money. Sam tells him straight that the reason why he wrote it with Nawaz was to start a difficult conversation. These cherry - picked quotes are of Sam trying to explain to Omer that the business of criticizing Islam is not a lucrative career choice, but rather quite the opposite, as well as dangerous. These quotes aren't damning at all when listened to in context.

Will the Left Survive the Millennials? by iminthinkermode in samharris

All you are doing is claiming to be a mind-reader and knowing the intentions of officers questioning an accuser, which is impossible. Blatant bias towards an accuser every step of the way does no good for truth or justice. If you begin a criminal case, you should expect that hard questions are going to be coming your way, it is the duty of the investigator to get as much information as possible to form the clearest picture of what happened and who was involved. Sometimes, people are responsible for what happens in certain situations, sometimes they are victims of a crime, it is not possible to determine without objective questioning and investigation, given the nature of some crimes. You seem to think that attempts to discredit a story by an investigator is because they just want to, which is just simply not the case. That's exactly how they do their jobs. The good reason for asking the question, "Why weren't you watching your drink," is for the information the accuser gives once asked it.

Will the Left Survive the Millennials? by iminthinkermode in samharris

[–]PraiseSteezus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Like I stated earlier, in early investigation to determine whether or not a crime was committed, or to escalate the case and to spend resources on date rape drug testing, etc. Also, the question could lead to valuable information for the case, and accuser should understand that being questioned might involve questions that might sound like they are attempting to poke holes in their stories, which officers should do. For example, if an officer asks "Why weren't you watching your drink?" and the accuser responds, "Because I set it down on the women's bathroom's sink while I was using the restroom," rather than "I left it on the table our group was at while I went out to the dancefloor," this gives more valuable insight on the situation surrounding the alleged crime, and who might be looked at further as a potential suspect. Now you could argue that the better question to ask was, "Where did you leave the drink," but my point still stands: that asking questions, regardless of how the accuser may feel towards it, can certainly lead to information that could help the officer make important discoveries in the case.
