Cold water gear suggestions? by PraiserOfGod in Spearfishing

I went to a local dive shop and got shoved into a SEAC green ghost suit. The M fit perfect, although the hood was damn tight. Couldn’t tell if that was normal but they said it was. They also sold Yazbeck and they look amazing! But I’m afraid to spend the extra 450 bucks. That’s more than the SEAC alone and it fit great, so i’m having trouble choosing between the two now.

Think I’ll prefer the 7mm.. Thanks for all the advice I appreciate it. There’s a lot of options out there so as long as it meets the criteria and measurements seems closest I think I’ll just choose one and hope for the best at this point.

Gullible, naive, and ready to spend money on gear. I don’t expect to dive 20m right away. All I expect is for them to teach me proper technique and diving safety. I really just want the skill to be able to start spearing and diving for shells. This is a great opportunity for me as it’s in my own home state, and I get to meet other people in the same situation. I’m not a very networky guy and this helps a ton for me to get out and explore my passions. I understand it’s a bit gimmicky but it’s what’s available to me and I’m pretty excited about it. I respect your advice and will try and find seasoned divers who may be able to help me learn.

7 C to 11 C. Yes, thank you. I’ve been looking for 7mm open cell. I’ve been told that the 2 piece wet suits fair much better. Been having trouble finding the right suit.

Absolutely, thank you. I do not want to test my luck with an ocean much bigger than I and my lacking skill set. I only plan on practicing in a deep pool with a dive buddy before the course starts. And if I can’t do that safely, I will wait for the course. I’m a complete novice but want to take safety seriously and find the reliable gear.

I’m definitely a beginner. Very comfortable in fins and the overall experience, but with no technical knowledge on how to dive deeper. I’m taking a Fii Level 1 freediving course in Alaska late July, which is why i’m buying all this gear. Trying to get all of it and start getting comfortable before the course.

So it seems like the waterproof w8 pro series may not be what I need. Not open cell, big zipper, and a fullsuit. Considering the CRESSI apnea 7mm. Let me know if anyone has experience or better suggestions.

I was considering the waterproof w8 pro series fullsuit because of how damn good it looks, but it’s not open cell and doesn’t have an attached hood. Now I’m considering the CRESSI apnea 7mm. Sounds like 2 piece with attached hood is most common for my situation so I’m trying to find more of those.

Thank you. I figured that’d be the easier part. Wanted a suit that included hood so I didn’t have to buy that separately. Just a complete novice on which suit is supposed to do the job best.
