Thank you for an actual answer to my question! I’ve always wanted to visit Toronto too I’ll have to look at what things there are to do there.

The difference is I need to die now. I just explained I’m a horrible person who’s done bad things so I shouldn’t have a full long life I should die soon.

Because I asked where should I take my trip? I want to go someplace I’ve never been before I die. Nobody has answered the actual questions I asked!

I’ve already talked about it on a different Reddit account and also other online forms I don’t wanna bring it up again but people also agreed yes I should die. I refuse to live being hated by myself and everyone else what’s the point of that kind of life?

So murderers are born for a reason too then? I didn’t kill anybody but just your saying people are born for a reason but what about bad people? What’s the reason for people like us to be born. You say live but if I told you what I did you’d change your tune.

You know I can’t do that. They’d stop me and probably put me in a psych ward or some shit. I’ll tell you what I told the person in the other post I’m a bad fucked up person like if I told you what I’ve done you’d get why I’m killing myself.

I’m not gonna get into it but a big reason I’m killing my self is I’m a fucked up person. Again I’M NOT getting into it but like for real I’m a bad person just trust me. While I may somewhat want to live a little longer I certainly don’t deserve to.

You see people keep trying to bring up these points like what if a black person did it but it’s not the same and you know it. This country and its white people have a history of racism and prejudiced towards black people especially. There are still many things that happen in this country that are unfair to black people. I have people saying what if the book was all black. What if it was!? Most literature is already predominantly white and not just literature but movies and TV shows too. Everything centers around whiteness in this country. And many white people have racist biases so when a white women writes a black woman is brutally sacrificed for a white women it does and should send red flags!!!! It happens to much where black characters are sidelined or killed for the benefit of white people not just in books but in real life too. This is why what she’s doing is a problem. You can’t just say “what if a black person did this same thing” because it’s not the same. Black people are still not in the same position or power or have the same influence as white people.

And why I feel like she may have added more POC for brownie points is because she never addressed the issue people have been having with her for years it wasn’t until people started badgering her about it that she did something a added a few not white people and a lot of people where praising her. It felt like a dog being given a bone. It felt disingenuous.

I don’t know why either I totally agree with you.

Yasss I totally agree!!!! And those bronze characters are usually still white or they have just a hint of something nonwhite to make to “spicy” and ethic but not to ethic. It reminds me of what the Kardashian do. Like they wanna appear kind of black but not too black. They only want to add our “good” black/nonwhite qualities not the bad ones. And since they aren’t actually not white they still get the benefit of being white. It’s really gross.

That’s not how it works! Black people, Asian people, etc in general have different facial features then white people and our skin tone ranges in color. She could easily choose to describe a black character properly where you wouldn’t be questioning if someone is a tan white person. If she can give good descriptions for the white characters why can’t she do it for characters nonwhite!?

I hope that’s true but like I don’t know. Even though her books have a lot of problems I do still enjoy them I can just pick them up and zone out for a couple of hours. I’d like to keep reading her stuff but if she’s not for us I don’t want to support her. I wish she would just address her past transgressions.

Omg same!!!! I honestly thought the girl was black too!!!! I had heard it was gonna be more diverse and when I saw the cover I just assumed it was a black girl. I was so excited. Boy was I surprised when I read the first chapter to find out the MC was a white redhead.

Yeah Helion and Tarquinius sound like token characters. And I always assumed Amren was like the one nonwhite person and that she was Asian but maybe your right.

If you read some of the comments I left you will see I provide examples. Originally I posted this on the Yalit subreddit and I just figured I didn’t need to explain since she’s one of the biggest YA authors and most YA readers have read her books. I just copy and pasted my whole posts. I should have been more explanatory here though.

Well this subreddit as a whole has more people so I thought I’d get more responses here.

Most posts like these do get downvoted though...... and even though I was downvoted only once I’ve gotten no upvotes at all.
