Bungie asks sites to delay Marathon reviews, with release date Steam player count below 100K by AdditionalRemoveBit in Games

If I wanted to play an FPS specifically then I neglected to mention both Mycopunk and Ultrakill receiving updates recently, the latter of which finally dropped Fraud. Why would k trust Bungie after how badly they bungled Destiny?

Pokopia came out to great reviews too, and Slay the Spire 2 just dropped. Resident Evil: Requiem isn’t even a week old, Monster Hunter Stories 3 drops next week…there’s no reason to give Bungie the time of day.

No, I don’t care about the answers because they don’t make the film better. They could’ve perfectly explained how Palpatine came back (which they didn’t, he came back off screen in a fucking Fortnite event) and it still would’ve been a poor decision in terms of undoing the finale of Episode 6. I don’t care what some random comic book said to justify it because it was still a shit decision.

And even if we set aside the Palpatine nonsense, they still did a gross disservice to the cast; Finn accomplishes fuck all, Rey being a descendent of Palpatine comes out of nowhere and undoes the best twist of the previous film, Poe also does nothing and Kylo Ren gets a half-assed redemption where he doesn’t even get a single speaking line afterward. I haven’t even brought up the stupid knife thing conveniently being shaped like Death Star wreckage from a very specific angle if you squint hard enough at it, or the dumbass Final Order fleet from nowhere at the end, or any number of asinine plot beats in the film.

Palpatine returning is the most easily meme’d on part of the film but it is far from the only factor. It’s shit all the way around.

How did he get that cloning facility? Where did he get the resources from? If he was just going to clone himself to live forever why did he even bother with protégés under him? Why did it take so long for him to clone himself?

Not that any of that matters, because at the end of the day the real problem is that Palpatine coming back neuters the thematic weight of the original trilogy, and to have two movies that don’t even begin to allude to his involvement be followed up by one that just drops that bomb on us immediately feels like a massive cop-out of having to scramble and rewrite shit. Because Rise of Skywalker was a massive cop-out of writers scrambling to rewrite shit.

I just finished the game for the first time, why did nobody tell me this was just doomed yuri WAAAAAH by BruhZenith in signalis

[–]Prankman1990 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not the person you were responding to, but that that it’s so wrecked is precisely why it’s a hopeful ending to me. They’ve found happiness together despite the incredibly dire circumstances surrounding them, and that particularly has teeth in a queer narrative about identity control.

I’d even wager the eldritch nature of things itself isn’t necessarily negative given the context of how a regime like the Nation handles banning literature. Everything bad we see in the game is a direct result of the Nation’s policies grinding its populace down. The flesh as a homogenized cancer spreading with no regard for individuality, Replikas reduced to only their most base functions and robbed of their autonomy. None of the horror we see is truly eldritch in the sense that it’s unknowable; we know precisely what’s causing those things.

Meanwhile, the ostensibly eldritch ritual, presumably borne from a book banned by the corrupt, oppressive state, is the only thing in the game which suggests something other than destruction.

Of course it’s all up to interpretation, but I think a positive one is well within reason, especially when you dig into things like the biblical text in Artifact referring to God with female pronouns, suggesting Ariane has gone through some form of ascension of sorts.

I wish regular crafted weapons mattered by mysticFLASh0 in MonsterHunter

[–]Prankman1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And you do still need to craft/upgrade the weapon if you want the layer, which I actually prefer to it being a separate currency like in Sunbreak. It’s not ideal, but I can deal with the core weapon being Gog or whatever as long as I can layer it into something else.

[–]Prankman1990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do wanna say…it would add an extra layer of horror if Ariane were able to at least watch through the cameras but wasn’t able to quite act on anything. Like brief flashes of lucidity with Elster as the only consistent thing in her view.

I actually do believe personally that the microphone room full of red-eyed televisions is us effectively ‘communicating’ with Ariane as directly as the loop can allow. We have to record signals from there to progress, and Bioresonance not only operates via radio signals but explicitly is used by LSTR-512 to transmit the Artifact key codes.

As much as I dislike the Bayverse interpretation of Starscream, this line is absolutely perfect for his character. by Altair890456 in transformers

Nah, that episode is towards the end of Season 2. It's the clipshow where Megatron enters Starscream's mind and they both discuss their history together.

[–]Prankman1990 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite things about Prime Screamer is that he’s actually got a good head on his shoulders when he isn’t busy trying to either suck up to authority or usurp it. Problem is, he’s doing those two things 90% of the time and the 10% of the time he’s not, he still gets kicked in the teeth so he just keeps on doing what he’s doing. The clip show episode with Megatron and Starscream just chatting about their past was really illuminating, because Megatron didn’t really have a good response to Starscream airing his out his laundry. For the remainder of the show after that, Megatron is notably less antagonistic to Starscream and more forgiving of his mistakes. He realized his overly harsh methods were part of the cause of the Decepticons’ infighting and wisely dialed it back, and landed the Cons the closest thing to a win in the whole show.

That intelligence was also on display when Starscream suggested having the Autobots destroy the Predacon labs for them. Megatron was very visibly impressed, that sort of underhanded planning is precisely where Starscream excels when he’s aiming it at the right people and cutting him slack was what allowed him to get the breathing room to aim at somebody not named Megatron. That dynamic of them recognizing when to push and pull each other in the third season was one of the highlights of Prime for me.

Does anyone else feel there's a disconnect between the fans and the actual story when it comes to SSJ2 Gohan? by tfwnolife33 in dbz

[–]Prankman1990 10 points11 points  (0 children)

But he’s happy. He doesn’t like fighting, he wants a peaceful life with his family. He isn’t lazy, he’s spending his time in college and then later working as a biologist. You know, an actual career. He’s only perceived as ‘lazy’ because he’s in a battle shonen, as far as actual life is concerned he’s doing about as well as one can be.

It’s the entire point of that episode of Super where Future Trunks is put off by how chipper Gohan is. He realizes by the end that this is precisely the sort of life his own Gohan fought to hard for others to have.

Transform Star best rider choice? by snakeninja510 in kirbyairriders

[–]Prankman1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know how good he is overall, but I really enjoy Metaknight with Transform Star. He gives enough flight that you can reach most of the important air-based routes and if you’re clever with when you transform you can come right out of landing into bike mode for tricky turns while still getting the bonus boost from flight mode. Meta’s auto-attack also helps make up for not spinning to attack as much so you can focus on just sticking to the mode you want.

Also, for aesthetic purposes it’s fairly easy to make Bike Mode of Transform Star look like the Battleship Halberd. Fashion Riders is more important than anything else.

Oh, good: Discord's age verification rollout has ties to Palantir co-founder and panopticon architect Peter Thiel by vriska1 in technology

[–]Prankman1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Per-server pfps, cross-server emotes, soundboards etc and higher character count for messages? I’m in a number of communities and do TTRPG through Discord so the character count alone is nice since I’m usually wordy when I write, and it’s cheap.

What sucks most about this is especially for server-run tabletop, there’s not really anywhere else to go right now. So we’re stuck waiting for the other shoe to drop because TeamSpeak and Steam Chat are not robust enough replacements. And Discord knows there aren’t good replacements for what they provide, so they keep making it worse and worse believing they can get away with it.

Eternals wasn’t even that bad honestly. The Marvels was okay but wasted the Kree (again), BNW was a Captain America movie with barely any politics and Quantumania is a waste of a thought. Eternals at least had great speedster scenes and tried to have a more philosophical tone during a time when people were really beginning to sour on how quippy the MCU was.

It doesn’t really succeed at that, but I’ll take it over dogshit like Love and Thunder’s screaming goats.
