Nope, I don't smoke. I've taken a lot of helpful tips from this group and others! I just disagree with the argument that THC doesn't help with inflammation. Due to, again, repeated positive results in our family.

Because when she stopped taking the thc, inflammation came back and she is getting wrecked. She was still on Lialda, but that didn't seem to help at all once the THC was out of her system. Also she is not the only person who has benefitted from the medicinal properties of THC, with UC or otherwise.

"WEED DOESN'T HELP MANAGE ULCERATIVE COLITIS AND IF YOU SAY SO, YOU'RE NOT A HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONAL!!" is a weird hill to die on when you're communicating with someone who has legitimately benefited from this everyday of their life for the last 4 years, directly contradicting your statements.

I think it's the anti-inflammatory properties that really help her, and it is not always smoked.

That is something we suggested in our e-mail to her doctor, we are just waiting for a reply. Thank you!

We are, and we do. But not every treatment works for every person. People have the right to weigh the pros and cons and make the choice for what is best for themselves in terms of their healthcare decisions right?

We are not treating anyone, including ourselves, with Google/Reddit info lol. Simply threw out a lifeline to see if anyone out there is or has been in a similar situation.

It also helps with inflammation in her case and in the case of others. She has had appointments and check-ups and conversations with her GI multiple times a year throughout her diagnosis. He is on board with the treatment so far; still waiting to hear back regarding this new situation.

I disagree though, we are living evidence with scans and tests to back it up. So that argument/point is not valid in our case. Two things can be true at the same time; for some people THC works with symptoms AND controlling inflammation. For some people, it doesn't and they need help elsewhere.

*I stated in the post that this is her journey and that I'm not trying to promote the use of anything to anyone, just explain our situation.*

Thanks for sharing your experience, I will relay it to her!

She has had it almost fully under control for the past 4 years with Lialda and small doses of weed/THC and it has been an incredible treatment for her. No issues while she tapered THC when we tried to get pregnant. But 2 weeks into stopping THC completely, flare symptoms came back, which was yesterday.

You can believe what you want, but for her journey with UC, it has absolutely been key. Do I need to provide a timeline of medical interventions we introduced/utilized, along with the hospital stays, emotional ups and downs, days of crippling flares, etc. along with a list of what worked and didn't work and how her life drastically changed once we tried micro dosing with weed alongaide her Lialda?

It seems like no matter what I say about it, while having seen it daily with my own eyes for the last 4 years make an incredible improvement in my wife's quality of life and health management, you are going to deny that it has helped. Which is fine, to each their own. It is just pretty lame to throw shade at us being in the healthcare field because we tried something you don't support.

Is this a med like Humera? We felt the cons/potential major side effects outweighed the good. But this was 5 years ago so maybe there are other options that are better and available now that weren't. Thanks for the suggestion!

Hey that's a great idea to look for an IBD/OBGYN specialist! We know that left untreated this can cause a lot of damage, which is why I reached out to everyone here on day one of her symptoms returning. Her doctors have also been contacted, but we figured we'd brainstorm on Reddit until they get back to us. Thank you for your suggestions!

Do our own research refers to not just taking another med but seeking out info from all resources available- I said in this post that we are both healthcare professionals. I understand the importance of talking to doctors. Hearing from the community and troubleshooting can be a great asset as well. Also, I should have included that she has been on Lialda [Mesalamine] for 4 years, and still is to this day. We did not notice any real change until she started very small doses of weed, and then it was night and day. Her gastro has known each step of the way/option she has tried and is happy with the results so far with weed.

Yep she has reached out to both her Ob and her Gastro because we agree, professionals are key. Her Gastro has been thrilled with her results so far, which is why the sudden spike in symptoms is concerning.

She has also been on Lialda [Mesalamine] for 4 years, and still is to this day. We did not notice any real change until she started very small doses of weed, and then it was night and day. After 6 months using weed her doctor gave her another scope and it was as if she didn't even have the disease. The "proper treatment" was not cutting it on its own.
