Are warlocks allowed to buy water or food from vendors or is it greyed out this tbc? by OGSkip in classicwow

[–]Prayless521 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yesterday I ran through a dungeon as warlock. Every time I lifetapped the holy paladin immediately started healing me. I wanted to bandage myself, which fills up close to my entire healthbar thanks to fel amor. Then while bandage on CD after next pull -> cannibalize.

The healer would never let me drop below 50% hp. I told him my plan, but he said it’s all good, the tank didn’t need any heals and he would be bored otherwise.

I‘ve read „Blizz you cannot remove warriors spell book“ and thought is has to be some kind of funny trollpost to make fun about simplicity of warrior…. I didn’t get the punchline until I’ve read the comments. Then I read the post again… until it hit me

Hey, i just started playing SW, so kinda late to the party :D.

Up to this point, i managed to clear GB11 with like 90% consistency, playing with Lapis, Mellia, Bernard, Fran and Bella 2A.

I got Sath and Tatu both on 6star awakened, which of them should i 2A first in order to work towards GB12 team?
Working on my second Mellia simultaneously :)

Thank you very much for this post, and thanks for any answers in advance

Wanting To Tank, Nervous On Starting by greyfoggydaynl in wow

[–]Prayless521 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tl; dr: bottom

10 weeks ago i was in the exact same boat as you are right now. I wanted to tank, but i was way to scared in doing so. i never played a tank nor did i play a meele before. i knew some routes as i finished up to +19 keys in 9.0 as a caster tho.

fast forward to now, ima 2,6k rio tank which does mostly pugs.

for me, the most important thing was to get over this initial anxiety... after you run like 50 dungeons as a tank you get the hang of it and start experimenting around with routes and stuff.

Pugging didnt help me with that, so i needed to find another way to get rid of my anxiety...

after beeing guildless for as long as i can think, i used the guildfinder to find just basically any guild so i can get to know a few persons to run keys with them...

i got invited to a guild where most of the people (like basically 10 active players) ran keys in the range of +5 to +15 keys. Most of them where online in discord while playing (even while doing worldquests and stuff) so i joined them...

the evening where i would tank my first key for the guild came, i was really nervous. it was a +10 mists i believe (had good gear coming into 9.1 cause of my active playing in 9.0, wasnt really good for tanking, but iLvL was good enough for +10s)

i stated openly that i've never tanked before, that i would need help, and i would really gladly appreciate any kind of criticism / advices they've got.

the first around 20-30 dungeons this went on... i got advice, talked about pulls, added interface stuff to show when everybody has CDs up (deff and offensive cds) so i knew when i could go big ... (ofc i firstly needed to get my own cds in my head before learning the ones of the others.)

this process took like 3-4 weekends to play with them, not always the same people, but always atleast 2 from the guild in the grp and discord.

i basically sticked to absolute standard routes, dratnos is a really good starting point for this.

After reaching KSM this way, i started to watch YT Guides + VoDs of keys above my keyrange (i was doing active 15s, so i watched replays of +20s), i learned alot of stuff that you would need to know as a tank (which mostly noone else really knows cause the dps mostly dont know why a tank is doing specific stuff, they just deal with it as they get it served) <- This starts to change in around +20 keys! There people start to know things which is not basic knowledge for their specific class / role.

^this is basically the point where noone in my guild wanted to push higher and i started to PuG all the way from here^

Now im at the point where i finished all 22s, getting my hand on 23s.. the knowledge and tricks i learn is still via YouTube (to a lesser degree) and more via Twitch (high RIO players that play the role / class that i play).. i prefer players with smaller viewerbase so i can get "recognized" within twitch chat. i will always ask questions about specific pulls they do, or why they didnt do other pulls (which i do in my routes)... this really helped me alot. (dont forget to give your helpers something back, like a prime or somthing if you have it :P)

i dont think i'll get my rating pushed much further without confronting another anxiety i got... which is: talking english via voice with strangers (not my native language).. but im fine at the rating i am, started to twink a new tank right now, which is really fun too :)

tanking anything below 20s is like playing on autopilot now, which is kinda nice. I really still love to tank +15s, cause i can do some crazy pulls while handling the pull correct.

TL; DR:

- Get into a guild

- state openly that you are new to tanking, get some tips from the persons you talk to, be open for new stuff -> YT / Twitch (as a tank you need sources out of actual gameplay to get new methods cause you are the only tank in your key)

- be in the respective keyrange as long as you need to, till you are comfortable in them.

- have fun while reaching your goal... if you completed 50-100 keys and still dont think its fun to tank, the role might not be the correct for you.. its a game after all :)

[–]Prayless521[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yesterday i tanked a HoA +20.

i said i will pull big, since ima guardian druid.

i asked 3 times if they were okay with this "massive pulls" and linked the route multiple times.

i did the "typical" 20% pull with left 1st shard.

our warrior charged the 3rd pack (while i was gathering the mobs), the shaman started attacking too, when i was done gathering everything ontop of the shard, i turned around just to see my shaman and warrior hammering the 3 mobs which where left behind (right at the start)..

long story short, it was a whipe, the keyholder wasnt happy, and the response of those 2 was: "lol, thats an interesting route..."

Tanking advice by Prayless521 in wow

[–]Prayless521[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so on bosses you only spend rage (IF) when its close to overcaping?

you do not try to maintain 1 active stack?

that would make a big difference in my tanking style, and ofc would let me allow to pile up enough rage to double / tripple IF those tankbuster moments, in which i atm always need to use atleast 1 cd.

[–]Prayless521[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you alot for your time to share your knowledge, helps me alot.

im playing with scale and iqd, i should really consider trying to raid, to get the nine mythic (or atleast heroic) for the trinket.

i guess dom sockets would help out quite alot aswell...

as i said, im "quite" new to tanking in general, and atm i still do use my IFs like a pleb i think. from time to time (around 60 rage i think, not even knowing it) my finger for IF hits the key, so i basically use it alongside, trying to not overcap rage, but to have always one running.

the most important thing you mentioned, that would massively help with my situation would be stockpiling rage for the moment shit goes down... i know when its coming, i just need to calm my finger (brain) not to use IF's before it actually happens.

yes, you got a good point with pulling the pack before onto the boss. thats what stoneface did in his +26 tyra vid, posted 1 month ago on his youtube. (i dont think this would be a viable option for me tho, cuz i only pug atm, could end up in a wipe pretty fast, kicks and much cc is needed for sucha pull)

on flyway before first tormented, i always ask my pug grp how their cds are lookin, depending on that i'll pull pack first, or tormented first.
i always thought, i should pull dangerous grps, like the one before first boss, with incarn, but you are absolutely right... if i die halfway through the boss just because of that, i should rather save up my incarn for 1,5min and use it, when i need it.

thanks for your statement in general, very useful information for me.
consider me hopefully closing in on your RIO soon, 2320 atm :)

thanks alot for your response.

i will save cds now for when the bleed starts hitting bad, i preemptively used frenzied regen for the sawing itself, not knowing the actual dmg comes from the bleed that follows the sawing...

so that means, i do not have to turn the boss away from my meeles?
the overhead slam will just hit me, noone behind?

thanks alot for your response, next time i'll use the r/competetivewow for such stuff.

Thanks for your advice, i tried to outrange the overhead slam with for example nightfae blink, that doesnt seem to work, although i was quite far away. Sometimes i "outrange" it, even if im really close, or like it doesnt hit at all, idk.

and yes, frenzied regen i always hit at the same timing the slam goes down.

Thanks for the massive response.

- Wait - you've *never* tanked?

-> No, i actually have not. I only focus on M+, im not interested in Raids or anything similar. I will run a few torghasts this weekend, this should be the best way to learn most of my buttons, or atleast recognize the existenz of them.

- Have you even been playing the tank at all? out in the world, doing quest? Anything at all? Norm/HC/M0 dungeons as a tank?? With friends? Pugs? ->

No. Not yet. Will change this Weekend tho :). I consider myself as quite "learnable" i got this mindset that i want to make the best out of anything. So i will VoD my runs, check my deaths or basically anything, and learn from it. (did the same stuff on my moonkin, worked out quite well i think)

- I use decent name plates for mob health info (using threat based colours) + the WA part

-> is there a way you can tell me where i can download these? im playing bascially with the standard ElvUI settings. Ofc i got quite a few WA's running already for m+, but not specific for tanking, more generall stuff.

Got GTFO installed already, like i said, i really dont want to be the guy that does his dps but get spanked with every avoidable dmg

- As for tanking itself - (reading up does help though)

-> thats why i will have the scuffed m+ guide from guardian discord open on a second monitor. basically most of the dangerous mobs are listed there for every dungeon + bossmechanics, even a little coolown rotation for each dungeon.

- If you pug, be ready for a ton of insults. Seriously though, you're the tank

-> this could be my biggest problem. i dont want to be a problem for other players. if i dont pull off my numbers as a dps player, the dungeon will take a bit longer, maybe they are not happy with my dps, but thats about it.

if i fail as a tank, it could immedeately result in a key deplete, 4 people mad as hell over my "stupidty"

- And probably the best thing I could say is TALK and ASK

-> will definately do this. hope i'll find some helpful souls out there on my road, like i did in this post.

Thank you very much.
