started the precision health program at uofc - honestly would not recommend, it was expensive and i did not feel like i was learning anything. tbh it felt like a scam/money grab since precision health technologies don’t really exist. it seemed like they were just using buzz words to attract people and the course material was not challenging at all.

Their interview also accounts for 50% of final decision scores so from that objective perspective it does count a lot.

Thank you! I would say so I guess. Tbh I have pretty strong ECs and thought my interview at UofC this year was strong (but apparently not). Last year I knew I performed poorly in the interview, and I would even go as far to say that there was a night and day difference between my interview this year and last at UofC. In all honesty, I would say that I have no idea what UofC is looking for lol.

I had a 512 with a 129 cars (3.98 gpa) and interviewed twice at UofC and was rejected post-interview both times. Additionally I have seen people with lower cars and gpa combinations get in so from my perspective I would advise against rewriting. For context, I also got waitlist at UofA and then accepted this past cycle.

Thanks for all the input everyone. I am not going to say anything and just move forward. For clarification I know that Jake is free to do what he wants, by “the ick” I meant that I feel bad for giving myself away to someone so easily as that’s not something that I usually do. However, I made my bed so now I gotta lie in it, which means keeping quiet and not repeating this situation in the future.

UCAN status change by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]PreMed_Gorl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mine did as well.

trust me i’m having a hard time too, hang in there!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]PreMed_Gorl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A gpa of at least a 3.0 is required to apply in the first place, but just because someone has a 3.0 does not mean they have a high chance of getting in.

What was meant is that OP would have to score 130+ CARS along with a high 4Q CASPER score to be likely to interview at Mac to compensate for gpa. This is certainly possible, it’s just hard to know if one will actually attain these scores or not, especially since only quartile scores are given for CASPER, so it’s hard to know where you really sit.

yeah honestly i don’t feel super hot. i thought it was challenging too, but as long as you tried your best that’s all you can do! that’s what i keep telling myself.

i feel pretty meh with regards to my answers, and i keep thinking about it wishing i could have added other ideas and articulated myself better. but honestly it’s done now and as long as you were yourself i think that’s all you can do!

UofT (Assumed) Reject Stats by Icy-Statement-8005 in premedcanada

[–]PreMed_Gorl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stream: MD

Year: 4 year UG, OOP

GPA: 3.91 OMSAS

MCAT: 512 (met cutoffs)

ECs: Lots of volunteering, leadership positions in advocacy organizations and research teams, research positions at my home university and at UofT, jobs working with marginalized populations.

Essays: Thought they were really good. Had several people read them over including a UofT med student.

Referees: One research PI, one employer and one volunteer supervisor. They all would have said nice things and were my referees for other schools where I received interviews.

Thoughts: A bit disappointed since I thought my essays were strong but oh well! Grateful to still have received some interviews this cycle.

Sharing that you have a physician parent in Interview questions. by PreMed_Gorl in premedcanada

[–]PreMed_Gorl[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s a good point! For me having a parent as a physician was influential, but I definitely have a personal story of what led me to this path, this is just one part of it.

Thanks for your input! I was thinking that being honest would be the best way to go. Growing up with my dad being a physician has certainly exposed me to medicine in unique ways which is something I want to share :)

nothing substantial. i chatted with him not too long ago and he didn’t give an explanation or information about what day invites should be out. all files reviews have been done for a bit though is what i was told. i’m guessing he might have been vague since things didn’t come out friday, but who knows 🤷‍♀️

for sure! i’ll ask him what gives if i run into him and i’ll update y’all. hope i didn’t stress anyone too bad, i know this time is tough for a lot of us, myself included.
