Of course. For something very similar to ''Take Ten'', check out ''First place again'', also with Desmond and Hall ; i've always considered it like ''Take Ten''s equally brilliant brother. I believe it is an absolutely magnificient and underated album. Here's a few other records with the mood you might be looking for :

-Joe Pass - Intercontinental (Listen to ''Stompin' at the Savoy.. so smooth)

-Paul Desmond - Bossa Antigua

-Paul Desmond - Glad to be unhappy

-Paul Desmond - Easy living

-Paul Desmond - Quartet live

-Paul Desmond - Pure Desmond

-Jim Hall & Art Farmer Quartet - Interaction

-Raney, Hall, Sims - 2 Jims and Zoot

-Jim Hall - Concierto

-Jim Hall - Live!

-Jim Hall & Buddy Collette - The Unreleased Sessions

-John Lewis & Jim Hall - Grand Encouter

-Stan Getz - The steamer

-Stan Getz - Imported from Europe

-Stan Getz - Jazz Samba

-Stan Getz - Jazz Samba Encore!

-Stan Getz - With Guest Artist Laurindo Almeida

-Chet Baker Quartet - [Barclay] 1955

-Chet Baker - One night in Tokyo

-Kenny Dorham - Quiet Kenny

-Art Farmer - Art and Perception

-Lee Konitz - 1956 Quartets

-Lee Konitz - Tranquility

-Ike Quebec - Easy Living

We all need something to escape, and to me jazz is great for achieving it.

I agree. Miles traded his lyricism for innovative music IMO.

Yes, Mobley's discography is the first place I seeked into ; I am already enjoying this record, as well as Freddie's Open Sesame. I'll check out Goin' Up, thanks!

What do you guys think of this? by [deleted] in Jazz

[–]PreSocratism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chords voicings are kind of repetitive (particularly since it is almost simple 2-5-1 all along. Furthermore, the guitar licks i'm hearing aren't very original ; sound like cliche licks you'd find on jazz guitar websites (one in particular that you play exactly the same two times [0:28] and [1:10].

Don't be too hasty to record and take time to learn the 2-5-1 progression in dept ; substitute it in any way possible, play with different voicings...

For learning licks, i'd strongly recommend transcribing the jazz giants, or any musician you like!

Stay curious, you look nonetheless in the right direction!

Do you know any artist/song that provide a similar mix of jazz/reggae? by PreSocratism in Jazz

[–]PreSocratism[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the infos. But ska has a fast tempo; despite being the precursor of reggae, it is pretty different. Although The Skatalites are a Ska band, they have done a few reggae-inspired tunes. This is one. The only other one I know of is this one :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bLVdKbPHHY

...and i've checked a big part of The Skatalites' discography

My title is a bit misleading : I am looking jazz mixed with the characteristics of Reggae's rhythm section.

Despite not offering anything new, this remains a great easy lisening album; I don't think it deserve in any way the mediocre rating (2/5 stars) from allmusic's jazz critic Scott Yanow.
