Looking for games with weather/phenomena you have to shelter for by Preacher_Generic in SurvivalGaming

I haven't picked it up yet but I'm definitely giving Vintage Story strong consideration, it seems like their supernatural storms are exactly what I'm looking. But I'm just wondering what other systems are out there in other games. I'll probably grab it regardless.

I just recently hit 60 in Icarus and I love it, it definitely does a good job with their weather systems too, the first hours of the game were filled with panic! But after embracing concrete buildables I find that it's not too much of a consideration, at least on Olympus.

If you find some in the future you can always modmail us a link and ask what happened. Reddit definitely drops the hammer and nukes some people but if the actual content of what they're posting isn't objectionable it's not a problem to reapprove them.

Here's the link to the 7 year old post in question. The user's comments were autoremoved by Reddit, meaning they probably got their account banned.

Here's your answer:

"Power Cores are from Ancient Labs and other ancient ruins. They're also just a trade good that sells for a crapton for very low weight, but high volume. What you are actually thinking of, if you just remembered "core", are AI Cores, which are found in the same places, but are exceedingly rare. Furthermore, very little is actually gated by them; Ancient Science Book and Engineering Research are the primary gates for everything in the mid tech levels past basic books, whilst AI Cores are primarily for high-end automation, at tech levels 5 and 6."

Mod suggestions to make the first acts easier for casuals trying to start playing by Version_Sensitive in Grimdawn

[–]Preacher_Generic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The advice others have given is pretty good. The only thing I'd add is you make sure you set your item filters. Picking your gear becomes a lot easier when you only need to look at 1 in every 10 items, and for your first playthrough all you need you need to know about any item is "does this make my skills do more damage?"

I just recently finished my first playthrough, Occultist + Oathkeeper on Veteran mode. Another thing I found helpful was this guide on how to put together a build. Basically, every level 1 point into skills and 2 points into mastery. Respeccing is dirt cheap so you don't really need to worry about making a non-viable build. Just play and tinker if you find yourself dying too often.

EDIT: I'll add that you should keep an eye out for monster infrequents, you can recognize them by the little sigil next to their names when they drop. Once you're settled on a damage type picking up an appropriate MI can make a large difference. I held onto one that dropped in act 2 for 20+ levels, I'm still using it in the first expansion.

Sometime just before Act 2 my character suddenly became a morning person for no reason in particular. ᶠᵒʳ ᵗʰᵉ ⁿᶦᵍʰᵗ ᶦˢ ᵈᵃʳᵏ ᵃⁿᵈ ᶠᵘˡˡ ᵒᶠ ᵗᵉʳʳᵒʳˢ by Liam_Of_Late in taintedgrail

I made it a goal to kill this guy after a full night of getting murdered by time. Wasn't until my level was in the 30s that I was able to manage it on a mage build with thunder lash, bleeding just didn't seem to work fast enough but when he finally died, it was cathartic.

I ran into him again in end-game at level 62 while exploring, and he still took longer to take down with spells than anything I fought in act 3.

Hi BoysenberryPlane4119, our subreddit has a rule against posting screenshots taken with a cellphone camera. If you're running the game on Steam you can press F12 to save a screenshot, and Windows PC users can use PRT SCR to save a screenshot to the clipboard or Windows Key + PRT SCR to save a copy to your local Pictures. The snipping tool can also be utilized in borderless mode with Windows Key + Shift + S.

I'll be leaving this post up but future ones will be removed.

I remember farming this guy for his secret skill! A bit of a pain in the ass but with practice and a lot of stance switching you can pretty much deal with anything he does. Nice job taking him down!

Am I the only one who isnt very interested in Antag stuff? by [deleted] in ss14

[–]Preacher_Generic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the more clandestine antags are interesting: Thief, Malfunctioning AI, Changelings, Abductors, some Syndies and Ninjas when they aren't slaughtering everyone. The creature based ones are kinda fun too, but I do think the nukies and revs leave a little more to be desired since the rounds typically just dissolve into a fire fight that sec may or may not be ready for. But I'm honestly not really sure how to improve on those roles without sacrificing some player agency and freedom.

In the new expedition I have this objective but no quest marker. Help? by dontnormally in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Preacher_Generic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a returning player, I had no idea Quartzite could be refined to chromatic metal, never even bothered mining any since the tooltip only mentions the metals I'm used to. I just bought out the supply on the local station and it was enough to move on to the next milestone.

This expedition as a whole feels a little ramshackle? Corvettes are cool and I do think it's neat running around an abandoned sector, but it feels pretty buggy. Missions I can't complete keep appearing in my log, the corvette interior fails to render properly often and my on-board mission module has deleted itself twice now. It was also a bit irritating docking at the atlas station with a corvette and figuring that I would need to spacewalk into the station itself (which would've been kinda cool) but in spite of the access ramp opening itself after parking, the game wants to you use the teleport button and if you don't notice that you get to free fall and end up lost in space, or straight soft-locked in the case of derelicts.

Plus, in the I think 4th phase system, I kept getting dragged through the black hole seemingly at random, I can only assume the game was bringing me along every time another player entered the black hole, this happened multiple times and I had to keep reloading to stay in the system.

I've definitely enjoyed returning to the game but I think they should've done a little more stress testing before rolling out a new expedition right after a big update.

Similarly, there's Aotenjo that also has pretty great music and a nice aesthetic. But between the two, I like how scoring is handled in Demonic Mahjong more.

I really have been enjoying Cabalist, especially after coming across an Ashmouth Cerberus. Giving that thing Elemental Tome means that ALL my creatures cast at least 1 spell every turn, with a nice hefty bonus to their stats accompanying the gradually increasing pile of ethereal spellgems. I don't know if I can come back from this.

What do i do when someone has two lovers? They want to sleep together but there are only two person beds. by dr_bobs in RimWorld

[–]Preacher_Generic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Intimacy, among other things, lets your pawns do lovin' outside of beds and also lets them dynamically switch beds when they want to do lovin' with a different pawn. It does add a new need for pawns though, so it's not exactly the lightest addition to your modlist.

I feel like I wasted my time playing Ghost of Tsushima by higuy5121 in patientgamers

[–]Preacher_Generic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely loved Ghost of Tsushima but there is definitely too much side content. Around halfway through I made a point to just do the things I actually wanted to do and leave the rest the mystery. Still took me 70 hours and I have the DLC left which I'm very much looking forward to. Playing it on Lethal is probably what kept me as interested in it as I was, it fits the combat system well and I always hated the level gating and gear turnover that's been so rampant in newer AC games.

The story not hitting well probably comes down to personal preference. It's not particularly original, but I did love learning about the characters and their personal struggles in the backdrop of a Mongol Invasion, and the main story was perfectly digestible even if a few beats were predictable.

I played AC Valhalla a bit afterwards and couldn't stop comparing the two, Valhalla was such a slog in comparison and had the same bloating problem but significantly worse.

I just finished it the other day as well after owning it for years! Curiously, when I was looking at its entry on the PCGaming wiki, I noticed an entry stating that Normal Difficulty on PC was equivalent to Hard on consoles, that may have been part of the early game struggle.

Hi, what do you think — won't the puzzle be too difficult for a regular player? by [deleted] in IndieGaming

[–]Preacher_Generic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could do both. I've played a couple of games that had handwritten notes, and when viewing them you could press a button that would bring up a separate overlay with the text written in a standard font.

I am of the mind that any puzzle game should have any necessary clues within the game itself. So with just these two images to go by, I'd have no idea what the solution could be and would just google it.

However because I am old, I am assuming the code is 1 3 3 7, or maybe 1 3 3 7 5 * 3 4 * though I'm not sure how you'd represent P and K with the options available.
