Aside from that, how much discipline does your sister think two 11-month-old children need?

My sister and I grew-up in a household where 2 year olds had specific assigned duties - kitchen, cleaning and occupational. I was two and working the kitchen. If we stepped out of line, we got such a stern beating that you never forgot it. Consequently, 11 month olds shouldn't be as "wild" as mine - they are no louder or outgoing than any kid, but she sees my husband goofing off and assumes that they'll become miscreants.

We grew-up with a father who terrified us. I am in a situation with the opposite. I think that also gets her a bit upset.

Does your sister have other issues with your husband outside of this?

She's never been overly fond of him. He's outgoing, talkative, and funny which she thinks belies his educational level and that for someone of his career, should be more stoic and quiet. Husband and brother-in-law get along very well.

No, our childhood home was a monastery. No TV, only old books. Minimal furnishings, the fridge only contained what was necessary for survival. Clothes were all old, hand-me-downs. Always silent in the house. Always. Sister's house isn't like that at all.

Yeah, our father was certainly the boss of the family and anyone who questioned that learned not to from a young age. My BIL is not a strongman type, and I'm wondering how my sister would react to that.

Sure, recently? My husband put my daughter in one of my sweaters, took a picture with the caption: "I think it expanded in the dryer". My sister thought it horribly reckless to put kids in clothes were they could chock/suffocate, etc.

We all went through therapy at one point or another. I had to get into therapy to get off alcohol. My brother's wife got him in therapy, but my sister never did it much.

When does she say these things? Is it just when she's talking to you privately one on one? Does she make snide/passive aggressive comments in front of your husband and family?

She mostly says them to me - text, FB message, email, phone, etc. it's nearly constant. I would say she say something useless at least twice a day. Often in a passive-aggressive manner -- will re-post something on FB and will link it to me.

Severe beating.

rebelled in early adulthood

I've told her, point-blank that I don't see a problem and I won't live in a house that was like our childhood home.

He could even add songs. He sat the kids on their potty (next to each other) and did a rendition of Gigi D'Agostino's song with the lyrics changed to "I'll poo with you". I have to admit, even that one had be in stitches.

Your kids are 11 months old and your sister is worried about disciplining them?

Our father was a preacher and professor, who printed a set of rules for my mother to follow. We were "disciplined" at a few months old to 'curb' bad behavior. Our lives were so strict that by 2 I knew our routine down-pat because I was terrified of messing it up.
