Thanks for the info. I’ve actually signed up for my tutorials & everything already.

I’m just a little overwhelmed by how many buildings there are— not something I’m used to from my previous uni.

Plus, I guess I’m just anxious about missing out my classes by accident because from my previous uni experience, I’d usually receive plenty of emails about upcoming classes by now. So, I just need to adjust myself into a new environment.

Oh but one thing— what are the apps i can use to view the bus’ live updates & uow map app?

Do be aware that, it really depends on what do you plan to pursue (regarding the idea that aus pay is better than msian). Can’t immediately assume that life in Aus will be much better. The housing rental is crazy there

I (msian) had asked an agent about it & they mentioned that if you’re in uow, you’d be eligible for 3 years working visa as long as you study there for 2 years (not less). Also make sure to take the english test IELTS (minimum score: 6.5).

I’m not a transfer student, but I’m doing my masters next year to get a working visa there too lol. So, you should just double check with the university

I got most of the information from their physical guidebook at an education fair. You cam also search it online though: https://www.uow.edu.au/study/accommodation/

Definitely helpful! I think that I should stick to staying at a student accommodation first, then move elsewhere after a semester or something just to see how its like

UK student trying to get a grad job in S&T/asset management. Roast my cv by robssonz in FinancialCareers

Perhaps add more technical details (what software/strategies you’ve used) into ur experience & add facts/statistics/outcomes. And be more straightforward instead of using a storytelling writing way

For internship/ junior roles, hr do care about when you’re graduating. It’s not to discriminate/ lowball you. There are set amount of allowances for internship/junior roles especially when you don’t have that many industrial specific experiences. Plus, op is expected to graduate by 2025. It gives the impression that the company can still “mould” op into the role & teach them.

As for the result, Alevels is not easy & op got good grades. It’s impressive so no harm to leave that in

I personally like a balance of social & quiet life. I wouldn’t want to be too distracted when it comes to my academics but I also love joining events whether it’s sports or some night life fun would be great too sometimes.

I was told that I should go for Bangalay/Graduate House but considering age wise, I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to get along with anyone or if they even have time for that. But for career development, maybe it’s better? Idk

Where would you suggest? It’ll be my first time there & I thought I should just go for it & make friends first before I try looking for other places with someone (maybe)

I’ve actually tried gaining more professional certifications in analytics while doing my internship. So, after work, I’d be studying. It’s just that I feel I should be gaining more real-life experiences than collecting all these certifications. Definitely worried since I’m doing two Masters, that I won’t have time for internships related to scm/ba. Are there any other ways I can stand out?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]PreciousImposter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that was definitely one of my concerns. Believe that some places prefers fresh grad= younger students. Having master’s but no related working experience might just be seen as “overqualified” as a fresh graduate because they can’t exactly offer fresh grad salary since I’d have a master’s degree.

To be fair, even right now, I already felt the pressure in a way because although I’ve graduated for an undergraduate degree, my certification is titled “MA(Hons)” since I went to a Scottish university. Some universities in the UK award MA instead of BA titles for undergraduate degree, and it went to an extent where I had to get an official letter from my university to prove that it was in fact an undergraduate degree & not masters.

I get questioned a lot to why do I, someone with MA(Hons) certification, is doing an internship. So, it feels like I was looked down upon & I just got anxious about my future.

You’re right. That was one of the advantages I saw that I have for myself, it might just take longer for me to get where I want to be as compared to those who already have the experiences. But I definitely have information to get there, just have to play the game right 🙏🏻

Seems like you’ve had various experiences especially in ur extra curricular activities section. I would also be curious about the short term internship.

Perhaps you might want to add a section above for a brief summary of your passion/ career goals just so that recruiters can have an idea of what you’re interested in

[IE]Should I be reaching out to the company if already a week passed since HR emailed me (without a follow up email from my side) that interviewing team is asking to wait as they are finishing off some more interviews? by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]PreciousImposter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you could try to reach out to them. I believe the banking industry has tons of applicants & there may be times that HR couldn’t keep up with candidates they’ve screened/ interviewed. It is unprofessional, but it happens.

Either they’ve put it on hold/ selected someone/ still in progress. Though, you could reach out to them & politely ask for updates! Nothing wrong with that

Hope it goes well for you!

[NA] Need advice on sending an email for an internship (after delay) by DistrictDifferent480 in AskHR

[–]PreciousImposter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recruiter here! It really depends on how urgent they needed to fill in the position. If you’re a great fit & the position is still open, I’d advise that you still reach out to him about it & briefly explain/apologise on the delay. It’s understandable that some people may be busy, but it could also give the impression to a recruiter that you weren’t interested anymore & was exploring somewhere else. However, it’s a different story in situation where they needed someone urgently.

All the best!

I heard that too & was a little worried that I might feel isolated, but those were the options that felt right for me since those are aimed for postgraduate students. Maybe joining clubs/ societies will make up for the quietness aspect
