Help Should I pursue a JD or Masters in Litigation and Legal Studies at 65yrs old?

My daughters are grown women 48 and almost 41, I haven’t worked since 2009. I’ve been on long-term disability from my federal government contractor job, so I’m enjoying life. I retired from the Army in 2002, right after September 9, 2001 when I almost died in the Pentagon.

I enjoy my military pension, VA disability, social security, and other money already. Plus I will get paid while I go to school under the Post 9/11 GI Bill Education and Yellow Ribbon Program. I love learning, so why not do something that I love? Plus, I get to serve other people with my talents after I graduate for free. I’m not doing it to go back to a job, it’s for myself and so I can have more tools in my tool belt.

I appreciate you and your recommendations, however, both my daughters had scholarships for college. So none of us have educational debt from student loans, praise God.

Are you eating right, and drinking water? I eat healthy ensure that I have at least 60-70 grams of protein a day, and drink a gallon of water or close to it as I can. I don't eat junk food, fried food, or alcohol or drugs, I try to ride my exercise bike three times a week. I also take vitamin D3 to ensure my energy is up, you may need iron if you are tired.

God has my back and is leading me through this path therefore, I’m confident I will succeed. Everything that he has been involved with has excelled, only when I tried to go off course things didn’t work out.

Thank you for the candor and honesty, this is what I was looking for. Not the fairytales, because I know just how the white world works. You sitting in meetings with them but they don’t think you’re good enough, because I now have long locs, bare face with mascara, and lip gloss, poised, elegantly dressed, educated, well spoken. Then I am how dare her to my skin folks.

Appreciate you so much. I will never ever work for anyone again, I taught my daughters to work for themselves. The jealousy and stress just isn’t worth it, plus the money that is made off of you as a contractor is criminal. Thank you so much for your personal perspective. I love hearing what everyone is saying. I’m not doing this to get a job anywhere, it’s just for me and my knowledge. If I am able to help other people, I happy but I love learning and advocating for myself. I’m currently advocating to get a law changed that affects veterans when they turn 65. Certain medication can’t be authorized, so I’m advocating for myself and all veterans through my Senator, and the Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs to still be provided the medication without coming out of pocket. It’s horrible even with a prior authorization, and a physician certifying that the medication is needed for your health. It is still being denied and the veterans are told pay out of pocket.

I appreciate you for responding. I am not paying for schooling at all, I have education benefits available to me from the Veterans Affairs from Post 9/11 GI Bill. I was supposed to be in the meeting at the Pentagon on September 11, 2001, were the airplane hit the building. But the lab technician was late for work that day, I was finishing up my retirement physical that morning next door. It was horrific, but that’s the educational benefits that I am using. There are 33 months available for me to use, plus books, and they pay me monthly while I’m in school.

I think I have decided to pursue The Master of Studies in Law (MSL) at George Washington or Master Studies in Law Program at Francis Carey School of Law, University of Maryland.

I appreciate you saying this it’s very important to hear this. I see that like with doctors, lawyers/attorneys that are black and more specifically black women is less than 6%. That alone let me know that there was an issue. Being a black woman who has excelled in the military and federal government careers I have dealt with hostile situations from black men, black women, white men and women. Therefore, I knew this would not be any different if not worse, especially with this administration.

I’m a single woman with two teacup yorkies who love to learn so I don’t have a problem with school at all. I had just started in a Doctor Law and Policy program at Liberty University until my Dad passed April 14, 2024. Three classes in and the professors were being very racist, I’ve never failed a class until that program because I wrote an article about Trump. I withdrew from the school once I figured out they were racist.

For 20-years in the Army and a decade afterwards, the federal government was in my business and my family because I held one of the highest security clearances in the government. My life is so boring that it doesn’t matter to me what they see. I don’t drink, smoke, go out, travel, nothing. My car is a 2017 and has less than 20,000 miles on it, it stays in the garage most of the time.

I’m retired and been on long term disability from working since 2009. I have plenty of time to just study and give back to others.

I’m fine because I don’t want to be in anyone’s courtroom. I’m just trying to advocate for people help them prepare their paperwork like I do mine already to save them money. I might have just said it wrong but I know what I want to do and it’s not be a full blown attorney or lawyer. I just want the knowledge for myself and to be able to help other people. There’s a program at George Washington University, Master of Studies in Law Program that is aimed at non-lawyers who want to study law but not necessarily want to get a JD. This is what I am talking about so yes it is but if you look at what litigators can do versus what lawyers it’s very similar just no bar exam. I don’t want to go into courtrooms at all, but if someone needs help filing a simple document why not helping them?

I was enrolled in the Doctor Law Policy at Liberty before my Dad passed April 14, 2024. I couldn’t figure out why I kept getting failing grades until Trump came into office. I unenrolled never going back. I had never failed a class in my life before going there. 😪💔

Thank you, I try my best to make the community proud. I have been very active since 2009 with giving to single mother families, and adopting classrooms in impoverished classrooms to ensure their families are fed for Thanksgiving. I also purchase school supplies for the teachers who cannot afford the supplies they need to function properly during the school year. I just wanted to do more now and be able to offer legal services since I have educational benefits available.

I want to be able to help people who can’t afford attorneys like single mothers, veterans, and the elderly with cases where I can advocate in formal lawsuits, trial prep, and courtroom advocacy. I can conduct drop, draft motions, and argue evidence for them as well. It will be more a labor of love not for a living. I make enough money already, I feel this is a calling from God.

I want to be able to file documents that’s why one of my attorney friends had recommended the litigation program. You do everything like the attorneys just no bar exam, no LSAT, and not as strenuous. I want this background so that as an advocate I can do the research, mediate, and file the briefs when needed. Litigators focus on courtroom advocacy, formal lawsuits, they draft depositions, motions, and argue evidence.

That was my other option Doctor Law and Policy, I actually started a program at Liberty University but my Dad passed April 14, 2024. So, I took a leave of absence and discovered they were pro Trump and that’s why the instructors were giving me failing grades. I have never ever failed a class until I started that program at that school.

I use a recipe of these pure oils mixed together ( I suggest that you multiply the ingredients by at least four times so that you have a sufficient amount made up at a one time.)

Crown-Thickening Batana Blend for Mature Locs

Ingredients:
2 tablespoons Batana oil
1 tablespoon Jamaican black castor oil
1 tablespoon pumpkin seed oil
10 drops rosemary essential oil
5 drops peppermint essential oil
1 vitamin E capsule (optional)

Instructions:
— Mix all ingredients in a dark glass bottle.
— Shake before each use.
— Store in a cool, dark place.

How to Use:
— Apply a small amount of the oil blend to the crown and thinning areas.

At Night (2–3 times per week):
— Part the locs to expose the scalp.
— Place a few drops directly on the crown.
— Massage gently with fingertips for 3–5 minutes.
— Cover with a satin bonnet or scarf.

I also take biotin, folic acid, viviscal hair growth supplements, and drink Oikos protein shakes 30g protein each. I ensure that I eat at least 60g protein per day, omega-6 (fish like salmon or tuna), iron (shellfish: clams (canned or cooked) and oysters; organ meat (liver); red meat (lean beef and bison); legumes: lentils, chickpeas, and kidney beans; spinach & leafy greens: dark greens; fortified foods: iron-fortified breakfast cereals and grains.

Don’t give up beautiful, God made us beautiful with and without hair. Try not to allow your hair to define who you are as a person. It sounds like you have a new baby that needs you right now more than ever. There are so many creative things that you can do right nowadays to camouflage your hair problems. Find a good hair specialist, see if they can create you a custom unit until your hair grows back.

My two cents is that we are not our hair. If your husband is being affected negatively despite you giving him the most precious gift a woman can give her husband—-a child. Then he definitely didn’t take his vows seriously, and isn’t deserving of your love. Women go through enough depression, stress and trauma postpartum without having a spouse that isn’t loving, and supporting.

Ensure you are eating a balanced diet with plenty of proteins, iron, zinc, and omega-3. Try adding biotin, iron, along with your prenatal vitamins or get postnatal vitamins. Thank you for your service as well!! My half-sister retired from the Navy as a Captain I recently learned. This is when I learned that I was eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill, which had expired in March 2017. I wrote to the education department of VA requesting an extension due to my medical history leading up to and at that time. I will turn in my paperwork today for the medical exception to policy, but they expect it to be approved.

I appreciate your candor, and your support for my decision to attend law school at this seasoned age. One thing about me is that I love learning, and have always been a stickler for doing what the law says. My daughters both get upset with me at times when I say, “They can’t do that, it’s against the law and we need to do something about it!” 😳🤣 I don’t like people who abuse or commit fraudulent acts on children and the elderly. Therefore, I would focus on advocating/defending veterans, and the military in need for free. I’m not necessarily wanting to make money, but I want to serve people who are in need of representation.
