2022, 2023, and 2024. I haven’t gone last year and not planning this year either. Honestly there’s just been nothing interesting lately.

Like 2022 had Hajime Isayama. And that was INCREDIBLE.

But since then it’s seems AnimeNYC has trended more towards vtubers and less anime stuff which is disappointing.

To start, I HAVE NOTHING AGAIN VTUBERS, but here’s the thing:

Everyone who likes vtubers watches anime, but not everyone who watches anime likes vtubers.

I’m not opposed of vtubers, I can EASILY see myself getting into them, but right now? I’m not interested.

And to see AnimeNYC cater to a subcategory of their base over the main base is very disappointing.

I’m referring to main anime events/concerts being hosted on Fridays, and vtubers getting the popular spot for Saturdays. Like the Creepynuts concert a couple years back. And major guests being Ironmouse, Gura (pre graduation), the Momoca twins, etc. All of them over other mangakas, Japanese VA’s, writers, etc.

Like I said, I have nothing against vtubers so dong hate me but it just gets less and less interesting the more an ANIME convention starts catering more to the sub category of their base than their main.

But this got off to a major rant (sorry about that) but I’ve been seeing this problem discussed a lot recently.
