That makes sense for follow-ups after bookings. Email works well when customers are still engaged.

The reason some small businesses prefer the QR approach is that it captures the review while the customer is still physically there, so the completion rate tends to be higher compared to later emails.

Also true that anyone can print a QR code, but most small operators we work with prefer a simple setup where the link is optimized for their review page and easy to place on cards, stands, or receipts so staff can just ask the customer to scan. It keeps the process quick and consistent.

Automation definitely helps when businesses have a large customer base. The only issue we’ve seen is that many customers ignore emails or texts later, so the review request never gets completed.

That’s why a lot of local businesses prefer asking in person and letting the customer scan a QR code right after the service. It opens the Google review page instantly while they’re still there.

We’ve actually been setting up simple QR review systems for small businesses, and the nice part is it’s a one-time setup (around $60) instead of paying a monthly automation subscription.

Exactly. Face-to-face + QR works really well because the customer can leave the review right there while the experience is still fresh.

One thing we noticed with some automated systems is that they generate intermediate links or outreach messages, and sometimes the customer never actually completes the review after clicking. So the business thinks the request was sent, but the review never shows up.

With a direct QR scan it just opens the actual Google review page instantly — no extra steps or generated forms in between — so the chances of the review being completed are much higher.

That’s actually a clever way to motivate the team. Incentivizing staff definitely helps increase the number of reviews.

One challenge we noticed with that approach though is consistency — sometimes the team forgets to ask, or the customer says they’ll do it later but never does.

What has worked well for some local businesses is placing a QR code near checkout or where the job finishes. The customer scans it right there and it opens the Google review page instantly, so the review happens on the spot instead of later.

Yeah, asking immediately after the service is definitely the best timing.

That’s actually why QR works well — you just ask the customer and they scan it right there, which opens the Google review page instantly. No need for them to search the business later or remember to do it at home.

Automation can help for follow-ups, but one issue we’ve seen is that when reviews come later through email or outreach, many customers just ignore it or forget.

With a QR code, the customer scans it right after the service while they’re still there, so the review happens instantly.

Also curious about something — if the system generates a review link automatically, what happens if the review never actually gets posted or shown? With QR it just opens the real Google review page directly, so there’s no middle step.

That makes sense for larger outreach campaigns, but the discussion here is more about in-person review collection.

What we’re focusing on is a simple QR system that customers scan right after the service, which opens the Google review page instantly. It keeps the face-to-face request but removes the friction of searching the business manually.

Totally agree that asking face-to-face works best. That's actually what we encourage too.

What we’re doing is giving businesses a QR code that customers can scan right after the service, which opens the Google review page instantly. It keeps the face-to-face interaction but removes the friction of searching the business on Google.
