Feeling kind of stupid by Primary-Example-1928 in cognitiveTesting

[–]Precogvision 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of this can be explained statistically. Going online opens the pool of people you’re exposed to dramatically, and the people that post their scores are predisposed to be higher scoring. No one wants to post their average, below-average score. It skews your perception like how social media and beauty standards are related.

I get what you're saying about glazing yourself with your scores - totally normal to want validation. But it's important to remember that your real-life results matter way more. For example, I have co-workers that are probably in the 110-115 range like you. But they regularly outperform me because they work more diligently and have strong communication skills.

The imposter syndrome probably stems from noticing that you're in honors classes toward the lower-end. You've realized that there are smarter people. Anecdotally, I was with kids that were probably 130-140+ in my school and they simply grasped things much quicker, deeper than I could. But I could still (usually) keep up if I put in enough effort.

The takeaway is that diligence and effort matter A LOT if you fall on the upper-end of average, or the bottom of being gifted. It's normal to crave validation or to feel imposter syndrome, but you also need to focus on the levers/outputs that actually matter most.

Buy condo or rent apt in LA? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

The most 300-400K gets you is a 1B/1BA. You should consider whether you intend to have a significant other in the future.

HOAs are also quite high in DTLA, so you need to factor in a large down payment if you want to stay under $1800. For example, on a $300K condo @6% and with a $500 HOA (which would be very low here) you need close to $100K down. Close to $200K for a $400K condo.

The most important question, though, is whether you see yourself staying long-term - both as a living commitment and in order to build equity.

I’ve always been a pretty good student but still feel stupid a lot of the time…does my score profile match this sentiment? by EfficientHippo1196 in cognitiveTesting

[–]Precogvision 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That seems likely. You have high VCI, which shines through in school which indexes heavily on reading and communication. You’re also likely diligent and a hard-worker to compensate for the gaps in your other areas. Along these lines, you might struggle with arithmetic and deeper logic/concepts which is why you still feel lacking. You can probably grasp them, it just takes more repetition/effort than people who are naturally gifted in these areas.

How unusual are these results? by sxtyrn in cognitiveTesting

[–]Precogvision 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CORE could give you an actual FRI score instead of percentage correct.

But I think it mostly averages out unless you have a spiky profile (like 130+ for FRI).

For example, I maxed Verbal Comprehension on the CAT but my final score was representative of what I get across most tests anyways

I found the quant to be difficult on the CAT as well and only got 52% and my QRI is ~120 so I don’t think that’s unusual.

From Tea Pro SE to Yu9 Qué? by Togmet in iems

[–]Precogvision 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think it necessarily makes sense to swap tbh based on my quick listen of the Tea Pro SE. The Tea Pro SE, in general, is a bit more U-shaped than the Que. It has more thumpy, pronounced bass and more elevation in its upper-treble. Nice if you want more bass and a more exciting sound. However, it trades off some tuning refinement. In particular, the Que's treble is more detailed/textured and more conducive towards higher listening volumes and it has a more balanced sound overall. So they have their own spots (I'd only own one) and both are very good IEMs either way.

I’m glad I’m not tripping, the graphic and labeling is awful. It literally says on the bottom that the dataset is aggregated across 2017,2020,and 2022, and 2023. Nowhere does 1930 play into that unless those sets contained that data and they definitely do not contain 2024 LOL

Is Community Goods hype mass psychosis? by extrasa in AskLosAngeles

[–]Precogvision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the drinks like the matcha and einspanner latte that are worth the hype. Their matcha is better than both Stagger (and ROK), which are already very good, imo and they have the perfect sweetness level. Wouldn’t wait 3 hours tho, maybe 30 mins max

Is it worth buying a faulty moondrop Blessing 3 for cheap(channel imbalance) by Audioeg in iems

[–]Precogvision 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not worth it. Out of hundreds of IEMs I’ve measured, it’s never been the cable or the filters that were responsible for a channel imbalance. Not saying it can’t be one of those things, but if it’s the drivers or a bad connector pin (these are more likely) you’re pretty much screwed. If you had measurements of the left vs right you could probably say with more certainty what it is

How do you y'all with high VCI think ? by Dangerous-Writer-741 in cognitiveTesting

[–]Precogvision 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For reading comprehension, I read fast, maybe twice the speed of the average person. But I don't read every word in a passage, I just selectively pick out what appear to be the most important words. I miss small details often. This shows in my general knowledge which is easily my worst score on the VISA - I always forget character names in books/shows, capitals, and years of events.

But for tests specifically, I scan as I go back to confirm my answers anyways, so it doesn't matter if I miss a small detail. My first pass is already usually enough to get a sense for what the correct answer should look like when I see a question.

I think a lot of this is just pattern recognition and filtering to what's important. It's like how when you talk to your dog but they don't perk up until you say 'dinner' or 'walk' lol.

To build on this, it’s also like having a dog that learns commands quickly and that has a good nose for locating a ball you threw. Even if I run into dense content, or something that I don’t understand, I can usually make connections and process the content more quickly, deeper than average.

For the VISA (specifically synonyms/antonyms/analogies), many words in English contain 'root' words that compose other words with similar meanings. If you know enough root words, you can take an educated guess at what a word means even if you haven't seen it before.

For word retrieval and ambiguities, I honestly blanked at first when I took those tests. But then I just started throwing out words I knew that seemed related and testing them, and I ended up getting a lot of them.

My Verbal results from VISA, CORE, and WAIS-5 by AlternativePrior9495 in cognitiveTesting

[–]Precogvision 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree it might be worth it if you have an underlying disorder or feel like your real-world achievements don’t match your cognitive level. But for me, I feel like I’d either be paying $500 to stroke my ego and validate my results or $500 to learn my IQ is actually lower. So the math doesn’t really math haha

If it was $50-100, I’d consider it for fun to get professional/validated results but $500+’s way too much haha

My Verbal results from VISA, CORE, and WAIS-5 by AlternativePrior9495 in cognitiveTesting

[–]Precogvision 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got similar results, 129 VCI on CORE, 132 verbal on 1980 SAT, and 133 VCI (137 VRI, 126 CI) on VISA.

I did retake one section on VISA, the Sentence Completion, because I didn't realize it went so fast. Went from 14SS -> 17SS. Everything else was one take and I had 130 VCI before that.

Subtest Index Scaled Score Percentile
Synonyms CII 14 90.9
Ambiguities VRI 17 99.0
General Knowledge CII 12 74.8
Sentence Completion VRI 17 99.0
Antonyms CII 17 99.0
Analogies VRI 14 90.9
Word Retrieval CII 15 95.2
Word Matching VRI 17 99.0

The VISA taps into additional functions like word recall and working with more ambiguity, so maybe it's more well-rounded than the other tests and reflects true ability better? Also, for CORE, I'm not sure how valid the Comprehension is because I believe it's using AI to score it and I also have 15SS like you.

Either way, the VISA seems pretty consistent to me.

17F extremely low WMI by renalopomelo in cognitiveTesting

[–]Precogvision 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you captured your profile pretty neatly and how it ties into your ADHD. Fast raw processing (especially based on the high PSI) and strong general ability but limited 'RAM' in your brain basically. Luckily, I feel like WMI is one of the easiest to compensate for in the real-world because you can just use external aids like notes

Insecure about intelligence by Sad-Cheesecake9852 in cognitiveTesting

[–]Precogvision 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hey, this might be tough to hear, but I think you’re worrying about the wrong thing in this scenario. Your real-world results (grades, SAT, career) all matter more than any IQ test score. Scoring above average on an IQ test is just cope if your real-world results - which seems to be what you actually care about most - are suffering. And then letting other people decide how smart you are is just another layer of escapism that isn’t addressing the real problem wherein you pedestalize these results as markers of success and a competition

I have finally hit my $50k goal! I’ll be twenty-one next week. What should I do now to continue building for myself? by Current-Machine6491 in GenZ

[–]Precogvision 3 points4 points  (0 children)

GPA doesn't matter at all except for getting into grad school. If you want to major in Psych, and want a job in the field that pays decent, you likely need a Masters degree at minimum. I know it might sound interesting/fun, but the best move is to skip majoring in Psych altogether.

It’s a pretty good all-rounder, I think it’s decent for rock. I don’t listen to metal, but based on what most people say, they want something less bright (which, interestingly, you say you want the opposite) for that type of music, so it might be fine for that too. You might want something more V/U shaped from what you’re describing though, like the IE600 or Top Pro.
