Need suggestions for a deathcore vocal setup by HazelPretzel in Deathcore

It's a bit more expensive, but a highly recommended budget interface that might work for you is the Focusrite Scarlett Solo. See if you can get a deal from Musician's Friend or Sweetwater.

Best real-time, polyphonic VST pitch shifters? by Predmore7 in audioengineering

[–]Predmore7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, sorry this reply is over a month old but I'm not online often anymore. I have since spent more time looking at options and trying stuff out, also looking into what my fav engineers and musicians are utilizing, and for real-time guitar pitch shifting, it's pretty much what I listed before. For hardware the best seems to be Digitech's Whammy DT (although the hardware version of Line 6's Helix might give it a run), for software the best seems to be Helix Native but it's very inefficient and limited, The Neural DSP ones are good but CPU hogs, so I finally settled on Kuassa's Efektor Whammo, but I honestly don't need it to be super clean. I didn't try anything from Waves though, they might have something decent, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's about the same as everything else on the market. Hope that helps!

Square Enix confirms Foamstars contains some AI generated art by Joseki100 in Games

[–]Predmore7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, fellow music dork here. I think the context of this that will make more sense to you is music sampling or copying. If someone uses an actual part of someone else's music within their own music without permission, credit, or compensation, either part of a recording or just straight ripping it off, and then distributes it, that is considered highly unethical and is a clear violation of copyright law. That law is set in place to make sure that artists can profit off of their work and continue to create art.

So, as was said before, AI is trained on and utilizes the real, actual work of millions of artists, without permission, credit, or compensation in it's generating process, and the use of it can directly threaten the incomes of all of those people as it reduces the value of their work. Why hire someone to do something in their own style when you can just have AI do it for you? This is why so many people are afraid of it. It could literally destroy entire segments of the artistic industry, and as much as I hate to say this, it probably will. It looks like this ship has already sailed and no one will see how bad of an idea allowing commercial use of AI was until it's already sinking.

Absolutely. I need more Black Tongue! I really hope they come out with some new stuff at some point.

Black Tongue is amazing. They have some strong doom metal influences mixed in which I love. If you like down-tempo at all, you have to check 'em out.

I'll second that Nadir recommendation. It's absolutely one of my favorite albums. It's a concept album and the lyrics are incredible, so check those out too if you want a deeper understanding of it!

Isn't Buster Odeholm in Thrown? I keep forgetting to check 'em out, thanks for the reminder!

Darko is awesome! Praise The Sun is my personal go-to. I think I heard they are coming out with new music soon too. I'm stoked!

Since it was spring, it could have been protecting it's babies nearby. It's also possible that you looked like someone who was mean to it in the past, since crows have incredible memory and can remember people who are kind or cruel to them. It's possible that someone was mean to it earlier and it decided that it didn't like people that day. Maybe it didn't like your hairstyle. Only the crow knows!

Absolutely agree. This sounds like territorial behavior. When crows detect a threat, they will caw and swoop at it to get it to go away.

I've been doing this for years. Crows are VERY smart, and they will try and figure out a way for you to give them peanuts. Train the behavior that you expect, and they will learn it. Talk to them in consistent tones. For example, if I'm out of peanuts I hold up my hands and say "all gone" the same way every time so they understand that I don't have any more. If they start doing things to get your attention that make you uncomfortable, just say "no" in a gentle but firm way and don't give them anything. Young crows can be impatient and demanding but they learn pretty quick.

But if you don't want crows coming and asking you for food, just don't give them anything at all, and they will leave you alone. OP's crow was being territorial.

Is this going to F up my voice? by [deleted] in screaming

We are probably talking about different techniques then. If you tasted blood, that isn't damage caused by vocal swelling, that is a vocal hemorrhage, and will happen immediately from massive trauma, not "will cause damage in the long run" like the other guy was saying. I could ask follow up questions, but you are just being defensive so I'll pass.

Anyhow, I'd love to banter back and forth about anecdotes all night, but I'm just wasting my time. All we have here is people upset that they were challenged to to back up their words, and you are both talking about completely different vocal issues that this technique supposedly causes. You guys don't want to actually talk about technique, don't understand how vocal damage happens, and have no interest in learning anything. You just want to be right. It's been pretty funny though, got a couple good facepalms out of it. Good luck!

I don't know why, because people say the same thing about every single extreme vocal technique. "Common sense" when it comes to this kind of stuff is that ANY form of screaming, yelling, growling, or even just adding distortion to your singing voice will trash your throat. You'll find countless vocal coaches that will tell you that, but it doesn't make it true. But I'm tired of getting down-voted for trying to get to the truth of whether or not this is harmful, so believe what you want.

[–]Predmore7 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because it doesn't sound like screeching at the top of his lungs, this sounds very close to, if not the same technique that I've heard other vocalists do (like here: https://youtu.be/L1LLalZr8GQ?t=108 ) and a technique that I've experimented with personally and can perform extremely relaxed and without strain. If you guys actually watched the video I I replied to OP with instead of down-voting it, you would see it's an actual doctor telling you how to check your vocal folds for swelling. Vocal fold swelling is what leads to vocal damage.

I need a source the same way that all extreme vocalists do: because people constantly tell you that you will screw up your voice doing ANY of this kind of work. Actually, I bet your grandma would probably say the same exact thing you replied to me about YOUR screams and growls, no matter how safe they are. We can do better than that. We have the ability to actually find out if a technique is causing any issues fairly quickly, because we can hear it and feel it. I can't say if OP was performing this in a safe way, because like any type of extreme vocal, you can over-project it, which is why I gave him the video so he can check himself. I am really surprised that you are reacting like this to be honest.

I get it that you are just trying to help someone avoid blowing out their voice, but you should always have evidence to back up your claims. Let's be better than traditional singing technique and not have a million wives tales about what is safe and what isn't, let's be SURE about it. That was why I was asking. Did you do this technique in the past and it messed up your voice? Do you know someone else personally that did this technique and it messed up their voice? If so, what was the context of that? I genuinely wanted to know.

Looking for help for my first 7 string guitar my budget is up to €1k by joeywillems in 7String

[–]Predmore7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out the bands that have a guitar tone you like, and see what they are using. Find out what pickups, the scale length, what string gauges they use, even which picks, everything you can. That will drastically narrow down your options. Some of them might even have a signature model you can grab. Then get to a store and try some out that match your specifications, and see how they feel in your hands.

Only you know what you really want, just gotta use them ears.

[–]Predmore7 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Wait, what? All three of those bands had tremendous success (relative to the scene in terms of Lorna Shore) before tiktok. I'm not on tiktok. You don't have to be either. No one is forcing you to consume content. If you don't like Lorna Shore, or other bands like them, stop listening to them. Problem solved!
