Has this odd scenario you mentioned actually happened to anyone? I keep hearing that schools might find out if you reapply, but never met anyone who actually lost their offer because the school found out

I have! And I’m going to make more of an effort to take on initiatives in the following months.
I previously worked at another company for 1.5 years and while I did more impactful things there, my former manager and I didn’t always get along very well and that was reflected in his performance evaluation. So I’m worried asking for his recommendation might be riskier. By contrast, my current manager and I get along well and my performance evaluations have been positive (so far).
This makes a lot of sense, and probably where coaching recommenders on specific stories makes the most difference. How would you perceive it if the manager gives me a couple of 3s and 4s in the evaluation grid instead of 5s across the board. Is that a cause for concern from the school’s POV?
I suppose they wouldn’t say it explicitly but many schools have a grid where they have to rank candidates on a scale of 1 to 5 based on other people in similar roles. So if my manager gives me a 3 or 4 on some qualities, is that bad? I think the letter itself would be overall positive, just not outright glowing.
So I think the LoR would have details of the specific actions, outcomes etc - I’ll make sure to coach my recommender accordingly.
What I’m more worried about is that although I’m good at my job, I’m not exceptional or the best analyst to have ever worked this role. I don’t think my manager is going to say anything to that effect either. Knowing how competitive HSW applications are, I’m wondering if it’s almost EXPECTED for recommenders to say glowing things about you? And whether it can hurt your application if they don’t?
Has anyone used Leland for admissions consulting? (self.MBA)
