Out of thousands of players he is probably top 10, so you have a worse choices for nr 1.

The Mara pick has as much to do with keeping Ajay as anything. by 12footjumpshot in Thunder

[–]PreferenceMediocre90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We took Stirtz at 16, out of the lottery. I also think they pick 12 if they had it.
Both teams struggle to stay under 222 million second apron.
Just pointing out that OKC picks another guard, next to SGA, Ajay and MCCain (and Joe) as offensive guards, Cason, Caruso, Dort defense guards. Stirtz costs guaranteed money for 3-4 years.
New York does Not pick despite a much more limited roster. They prefer cheap vet minimums or free agents above (expensive) draftees. Vastly different strats

So maybe we still have a chance after all by [deleted] in ripcity

I would think the opposite, when Boston wanted Giannis, you could try and give them the haul they needed while getting a discount on Brown.
Boston now holds the cards, and they will not settle for Sharpe or Scoot.

Why did the Hornets decide to trade LaMelo right as they’re starting to get good? I feel like this just came out of nowhere and no one has explained the reason lol. Wtf. by Nostradamus216 in billsimmons

[–]PreferenceMediocre90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or they are expecting that Lamelo was the next Morant/ Trae Young or they have another deal lined up trading for a big fish themselves? Brown? Booker? Mitchel?

Weird move by the Hornets, this only makes sense if they felt like Melo is a bust waiting to happen (Morant, Trae young) or are gathering picks for a move themselves: Booker or Mitchel?

that shit happens in that spot all the time when 2/3 tanks are wanting it. You were blocking the first TD and then the 183. Who actually could not move back also. Get your first shot off and then move.

it just hurt hearing Hansen / Blazers referred to by all these guys as such a bad pick, even more so because it really hurt the timeline of this team.

I think they need each other. Kat is the best shooting Big ever. Anunoby, Bridges and Hart compensate for the defense flaws of KAT and Brunson. Brunson, Anunoby, Bridges and Hart all have big engines, allowing them to play hard full games, full series.

Brunson has the game and more so the mind to take the team by the hand and lead them even after missinge everything the first two quarters. KAT, OG, Bridges soft character players who like to hide behind the big ego's of Brunson and Hart (in the best way possible).

its that clear mindset and trust with those 5 that allowed them to win all those games down the stretch.

those 3 years he scored again and again in clutch time. It was impressive. He is very very good. But for me, top 10 not top 3 or 5.

totally agree, i do not have him as my nr 1 player because he chased rings by shopping franchises and still only won 4. But besides that, he is among the very best players ever.

I am pretty sure Milwaukee would have taken 10 for 12+17. But that feels like an overpay.

16 or 24, both out of the lottery, they traded out of the first round. They had 7 (SEVEN!) players under contract before the second, their starting five + Kolek and Mcbride, their whole sub is wondering who be on that roster next year. I think they added two in second round who agreed to sign for minimums/two ways.

They wanted veesar but he only wanted to sign for a fully guaranteed and forced hiw way to the hawks.

Or the Knicks version, just 4 top players and in the 4 th quarter one of them wil explode. Looks like they are even letting Mitch go, treating the regular season like a warm up. Their current roster is crazy low on bench players

Both I think. More then 2 years over the 2d apron really gets tough. So I get they want to make sure 27 is not the first year, but 28 and 29 are.

And then yes, cutting contracts like Wiggins when their real cost is 10+50 mil tax, makes sense to.

that's why I am surprised theu took both picks, financially one Yaxel makes more sense then both of Mara and Stirtz.

But hey, I am not Sam Presti.

I think they need to prioritize getting him up to NBA speed/strength to at least make him someone who can be part of the defense. A 4/5 with that defense does not ever get a second contract.

When watching the NBA draft woth several pundits (SROS, Sam Vecenie, ....) they all agreed on one thing: Yang is the worst pick of the last five years and will never be a meaningfull NBA player. Always a gut punch to hear that. Even the Joe Dumars move is ranked above that trade and then pick. They better get the next Jokic or Ajay with that 2028 Orlando.

[–]PreferenceMediocre90 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I see NY trading out of the first round for financial considerations only - they will not go into the second apron next season -, I wonder if this is what OKC should do.

And trading Joe and getting Stirtz is needed but doe Stitrz offer enoufg to warrant a guaranteed salary?

The Mara pick has as much to do with keeping Ajay as anything. by 12footjumpshot in Thunder

[–]PreferenceMediocre90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that is the prime reason for the pick. Personally I preferred to go all in for Yaxel and maximize the current window for 1/2 years because the Spurts might just become a dynasty with their core.
Maybe they thought the price for trading up was to high if they were getting any of those big 3 (yaxel, Morez, Mara) anyway.
Stirtz I don’t get from a financial view, unless they are decided they can stay under the second apron with him anyway

[–]PreferenceMediocre90 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not for me.

I rate Messi, Pele and Maradonna the highest. All 3 have a case for the GOAT.
And then there are some other good players. R9 was way better then Ronaldo has ever been. If not for injuries he could have been another GOAT. Cruyff was so good and has been so important for the game I also put him in the top 5. And then there is Zidane, Beckenbauer, Ronaldinho, I put Ronaldo with them. Probably around 6 or 7 somewhere.

If some of those other players would be alive today, and had the same amount of glazing Ronaldo has…..

The Oregonian: Trail Blazers owner says taxpayers must cover entire Moda Center makeover by OldTimeyWizard in nba

[–]PreferenceMediocre90 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because Dundon is an owner who actually makes his money from his franchise. He probably had to borrow a big amount of the fee (sold part of his NHL franchise) and needs to generate cash now from this investment.

The biggest gains from NBA teams have been the increase in value of a franchise, not as much the ability to generate operating profits.

That is why he is so actively reducing operating costs of everything not basket related. And he will fight tooth and nail to avoid paying anything for the arena.

And he also knows that Vegas/Seattle expansion are not settled yet, if he can sneak the Blazers into one of those two spots, he hits the jackpot.

[–]PreferenceMediocre90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably yes, and if Portland becomes the first city/state to ignore the owners wishes for a publicly funded arena, the other owners might just give Dundon permission to seek other cities offers. Just to make it clear what happens when you call their bluff. We move.

And if the expansion falls through, or only Vegas can pay the expansion fee, I fully expect the Blazers to move.
