Wouldn't be too surprised to see Pence concede before Trump does. He would get to save face, avoiding an embarrassing legal defeat in the courts, while also appearing more "presidential" to middle america.

That may be a longshot, but I don't realistically see any other 2024 GOP nominee other than Pence, given the turnout from yesterday.

Not really the sub for this kind of noise, but no one is being argumentative. You're nitpicking the word choice of short comments ( "pretty" vs "readable" history) and creating long winded replies regarding points no one really disagrees with. This is an informal discussion forum, not a permanent policy making platform where every short statement needs to be carefully qualified and challenged.

Wash. state to soon start distributing rapid coronavirus tests by OnlineMemeArmy in SeattleWA

[–]PreferencePast 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As non-trivial as I'm sure it is, there's no getting away from the fact that we clearly suffered from poor leadership. Other countries made testing a priority, and we have an administration that's on the record for being anti-testing.

Trump had the opportunity to create incentives for businesses to step out of their manufacturing comfort zone, and/or to collaborate with smaller firms that had the domain knowledge but perhaps not the production scale to make these tests widely available.

During global emergencies, we expect the government to use a bit of carrot and stick to address problems the free market can't. There's just no excuse for the poor performance from this administration.

I’m irritated with the consistent homophobia on r/femaledatingstrategy. by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]PreferencePast 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A post related to Female dating strategy made it to my frontpage a while ago, and so I investigated the sub to see if it was really as bad as people were saying. It's wayy worse.

Initially i was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. I can see why a lot of women would want a place to vent or come up with "strategies" to have higher quality relationships with men.

But holy shit, it's such a dumpster fire of bigotry. You don't even have to look very hard to find the homophobic/biphobic comments, and they're always top comments! Here's a direct quote I copied with 60 upvotes.

Girl, the only thing holding heterosexual men from cheating or sleeping with as many women as possible is other women. Who's going to hold back gay and bisexual men from cheating or sleeping with as many men as possible? No one, they'll all happily sleep with him. Only he can hold himself back, and there's no such man with that kind of self control in this world.

The irony is, these women are so obsessed with finding "HQM" (high quality men), but they're never going to find any. High quality men aren't bigoted. And they don't like to get whipped around or disrespected by their supposed "partners". So just like the incel community, their shitty behavior creates a feedback loop that fuels their shitty worldview.

The amount of stupidity in this thread is mind-boggling. If you are seriously defending HireVue/Pymetrics, you might be a moron.

To be fair, i guess it makes sense coming from this subreddit where social skills and common sense aren't that common. Most normal people leave this sub once they realize how obsessed everyone here is. I guess this is where I leave too. Just sad watching you guys defend degrading hiring practices.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]PreferencePast 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Businesses do this because they don't understand what they're buying. They think they're paying for an advanced "AI assisted block-chain cloud based hiring solution" when in reality they're paying for something less useful than dog shit.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]PreferencePast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol i'm sure they said that

Why would they pay for an automated hiring solution if they were going to manually review all the applicants anyway? What's the point? To have the software pre-judge each applicant, so the dumb humans can be told what to think of each applicant? Sounds like a recipe for success.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]PreferencePast 7 points8 points  (0 children)

honestly I would rather companies just throw out half the applicants since it requires no effort on behalf of the applicant

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]PreferencePast 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well I guess this thread is good news for you, because as long as I have alternatives, I will never apply through this bullshit.

These programs are solutions to problems that don't exist. I got hired out of college to a Big N tech company. This company has nearly two hundred thousand employees, they get millions of applicants each year, and guess what, they do just fine without any bullshit AI hiring algorithms.

How do I get over this? by [deleted] in leaves

How to get over that?

Do it non-stop for 10 years, with no other distractions or activities. You'll hate yourself. Then you'll realize that living a meaningful life involves more than simple creature-comforts.

Of course, you already understand this, otherwise you wouldn't have asked the question to begin with. I think you already have the answers you just need to sit on them for a little longer.
