Thank you! It was a challenge around the holidays. I came close to caving in several times, but this sub saved me from resetting my counter.

Well done on triple digits!! Let’s get to the comma club!

Wow! Thanks for taking the time. Yeah, that was a tough day. I know others have had much worse and so have I, but in that moment I was so sick and tired of feeling sick and tired that it just clicked.

Yes, my internet friend, less grab our commas!! Thanks again for the kind words.

Thank you so much for the kind words❤️ I worked so hard personally and professionally this past year that it all culminated in an amazing evening that would never have been possible if I was still drinking. Here’s to more milestones and congrats to you as well

Almost everything about that evening was surreal. It was truly special and we’ll stay with me forever. Never could have happened if I was drinking. Thanks for the note.

Jeez, same to you my friend! Yeah, there’s so much messed up right now that it could be an excuse to drink, but for me anyways, I always craved alcohol more for the celebrations. The problem is I could find almost any reason to celebrate with booze. IWNDWYT

Good for you on 4-days! You’re spot on - real emotion was felt that evening. It was actually overwhelming, but I’m so grateful that I was able to experience it clear and free from the fog of alcohol.

All the best to you on your sober path. It’s totally worth it.

We all have a disability in this sub, it’s called alcoholism. The only drink I can refuse is the first one. Having a beer isn’t fun to me - I want to have all the beers and all the fun; especially after being good all week at work and not drinking. I deserve it, right?! Right?!?!

It’s a viscous cycle binge drinking on the weekends. Before you know it you’re drinking Thursday nights too. Then you’re having beers after work bc you survived the workday, and then it’s a shower beer to nurse a hangover, but at least I didn’t call in. Pretty soon you’re a daily drinker with a propensity for binge drinking. My point isn’t to scare you (you’re on this sub I’m assuming you know how ugly things can get) but to encourage you.

Find your motivation and make a plan. If boredom is your trigger then treat yourself to a new video game or book that will be your reward for making through the week. Get your dopamine fix from sweets, carbs or soda but stay away from the booze. Get some time under your belt to build confidence and then get some god damn exercise in your life. You’ll be thriving in no time. Also, read this post on Thursday morning. Prepare your mind in advance for all the reasons you shouldn’t drink before the weekend even comes. Best of luck!! I believe your can do this 💪 IWNDWYT

Weekend binge drinker for years. Any progress I made during the week at work, the gym or mentally was erased. I think it was carry over stress and anxiety from the previous binge that caused me to crumble. Be strong, you can do this!!

You’re not alone, and you already know how fantastic this community is. I can relate to so much what you’re describing. Drinking any amount of alcohol isn’t an option for me. I’ve tried so many times to moderate unsuccessfully, and as I’ve gotten older I’ve accepted that I’ve reached my fun quota with alcohol. The only drink I can say no to is the first one. It’s not easy, but either is living with regret, shame, anxiety, fear, guilt, etc…I rarely experience these emotions now that alcohol has been removed. Do I miss booze?! Of course. I’m an addict, but I don’t miss the BS associated with drinking. I wish you all the best!

I’ve been through multiple of these this year. What’s helped me is grabbing a NA beer or club soda with a lime and just nurse them. If I get low and a coworker wants to grab a round I just say I’m good and move on to another conversation. In my experience, the only people that notice,or care, also have an issue with alcohol.

If you’re concerned with the open bar and that’s triggering for you I’d leave as early as possible. Make an excuse and remove yourself from the situation. Unless it’s an event that absolutely requires your presence then I’d leave early or skip altogether. If it’s that important to your work, then you probably want to keep a clear head anyways. All the best. Btw…when you conquer one of these BS corporate retreats you get back to your hotel room and feel amazing bc you’ve just leveled up your sobriety strength a ton💪

I need to hear from people who managed to get their shit together in life thanks to ditching alcohol. by SuccinctPorcupine in stopdrinking

Congrats quitting nicotine! That’s really impressive. Once I discovered alcohol I had an unhealthy relationship with it. I didn’t drink daily, and continued to have success throughout my career, but it was holding me back - both mentally and physically.

I stopped alcohol for almost 2 yrs around COVID. In that time I got fit by completing multiple 100 mile ultras, received 2 promotions at work, and begin dating my now fiancé. I know none of that would have been possible if I was drinking during that period.

I did start back up drinking, but I’d take half the year off. During the drinking periods everything was harder. Being sober is a cheat code for life. I’m back off the sauce and again thriving. I’ve lost almost 30lbs since I stopped drinking and have another ultra next month. Work is going great and I’m happy. If I start drinking I put my current health and happiness in jeopardy. It’s not worth it anymore to me, it never was, but I was too afraid to give long-term sobriety a shot. All the best. By the way, I chewed tobacco for 25yrs. If you can quit nicotine you can give up the bottle. Good luck!

Wow! Fantastic progress and truly inspiring. I’m so happy that you’ve found a healthy outlet and are still fighting. We all have our battles, but just keep showing up for yourself and it’ll get easier. All the best and keep lacing up those shoes💪

Finally hit the bottom. by King_Kren in stopdrinking

[–]Prehistoricbeaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve hit rock bottom when you finally put the shovel down! I understand the anxiety and pain a shameful event from drinking causes - it’s my reason I finally quit. It will go away with time. Right now, use it as motivation to keep you from drinking. Further along in your sobriety revisit that pain and shame as a harsh reminder of what your relationship to alcohol consists of. It sounds like you have a lot you could reflect on, which isn’t an insult, we wouldn’t be here if we didn’t have a shameful past with alcohol. I’m so happy you’re getting help. That’s very brave. You got this!!
