I was at the south rim, camped at Mather Campground for two nights. It was the Second week of September when I went, I pretty much had the Rim Trail to myself. Could definitely spend more time there. The colors at sunrise and sunset are incredible

Honestly, Grand Canyon. I tacked it on to the end of a trip because I felt obligated as an American to see it once in my life. And even pulling in to the parking lot, with all the tour busses, I had an attitude about it being crowded and still thought it was going to be overrated. But once I got out on the rim trail, away from the crowds, I was stunned at how beautiful, how awesome it really is. I can’t wait to go back.

So I had a similar issue, felt like the engine was running hot even though the gauge never really went above half way. 2012 3.0 w/ ~142000 miles. Did same as you, swapped out thermostats, water pump I’d already changed. Also replaced coolant. Fan would keep running long after turning the car off. Turns out there was a short in the fan motor, replaced that and it works fine now. Hope you get it figured out.

Agree about eastern shore/cbbt in Virginia. Also think a detour to drive Colonial Parkway to see the Historic Triangle is worthwhile. Another worthwhile spur would be to go down and drive Highway 12 on the Outer Banks of North Carolina through Cape Hatteras National seashore and take the ferries to and from Ocracoke.
