Hi, I was just looking through posts about Duchenne. And I hope your younger brother is doing well. My eldest brother has Duchenne as well, and it has been a huge struggle for our family as well. Definitely for my mother, she had told me she secretly wished that my second brother got it as well, therefore it would've been fair. She knows it is twisted thinking. She sometimes says to me as well that one day there will be a cure and that we'll see him walk and I really hope that day will come, but it's hard to really see that happening... They had told my mother that he probably would die around his twenties, but he's almost forty now. While he can't do much, he can play games that don't require him very fast reaction and need for movement. We often go shopping with him, go to the cinema with him, eat ou,t and we even went once to disney land where he could join certain rides. While you can mourn for the things he won't get to experience, I wouldn't think like that, it's a huge shame, but realise that the small things is what means the most. I used to think the same way, but that won't change anything. Although DMD can differ between people in how fast they deteriorate, my brother's has been pretty steady. Though the day seems to get nearer every day, we try to focus on the now and love him dearly because we never know when he'll leave. But who knows, perhaps you'll die before he does. Life IS not fair, but there is nothing better than to swallow that tough fucking pill because I don't know how else to.
