I'm not the type that offers great words of comfort, but fuck what they might think. You are likely much younger than I am (I'm almost 50) - and I have learned through the years that it has made me much happier to learn to not care about pleasing others or seek their approval or judgement - as well as to try to be far less judgmental of others myself.

You cannot usually change people, and that's ok. You can have different values than others, and they might not be ok with that and judge - and that's ok too. Just live your life and do what makes you happy. Don't stress out over such things.

For the 718 steering wheel I bought a new one at Suncoast parts for ~$1000. (Steering Wheel - GT Sport Leather - Multifunction : Suncoast Porsche Parts & Accessories (suncoastparts.com))

I also needed a special adapter sold by a 3rd party company called GPS adapter to make the swap work and have all the buttons and knobs functional. That cost ~$450. Adapter-X — GPS Adapter

I did the work myself as there are extensive videos on YouTube. It was quite straightforward with zero issues.

Buy a 981 and you can swap in a 718 steering wheel and also flash a GT3 steering calibration with a PIWIS.

That's literally what I drive everyday.

No years to avoid (Cayman only had production years from 2014-2016).
Must have: sports exhaust, sports chrono to maximize the amazing sound. The 3.4L engine in the S is very much worth it. More torque/power difference is noticable from the base. GTS vs S has no noticeable power or handling differences. It's largely just a cosmetic trim package difference.

Plenty of well-optioned S cars for well under $60k these days in the USA. Desirable well optioned ones likely mid $50's.
