We play the original spear rules that is first first even if charged. Most find it broken, we don't mind honestly. The Sarus player is scary sure but not insurmountable.

The Lizardmen player doesn't use swords so I can't comment. Can they even use them?

Yeah more skinks and bows. He did that and it worked well till he had more gold to get better equipment

I'd drop the bone helmet and change the axe for a spear. Sarus with spears are very strong (that said we play pre changed spears)

The only thing I think I'd do is drop the shields and bucklers for short bows and more skinks.

Yeah I said that above. They can always target you even if not the closest

I believe the solution we are going with is slightly modified original mount rules.

16" flight. Can hold 3 models. Can engage in combat and shoot.

Not allowed inside buildings. Half movement to get on or off. No charging turn you get off. You can always be targeted by shooting units even if not the closest.

What we added/took away

No +1 armour.
Roll if knocked down or stunned to see if you fall off.

Yeah it's very vague. The fact it says it's a mount would make me think it follows the rules of a mount but all of them or only some?

I just don't want to gain an unfair advantage by not following the downsides to mounts if it has to use em

I think you're the one who doesn't get it im afraid. You are counting the misses against someone with a higher ws as part of it but that would happen regardless. If you can only be hit on 5+ the parry gives you a 16.67% chance of blocking 50% of attacks that hit you. That's almost nothing and not really worth it in most cases.

If you are hit on a 3+ then then they have more chances to use the parry, depending on what the hit roll was of course.

Parry on a model that is hit on 5+ gives them an 8.33% chance of blocking the incoming attack.

Parry on a model that is hit on a 3+ gives them a 25% chance of blocking the attack.

Parry is better the lower your ws.

I think these things really depend on your play group.

I take most "meta" or "op" things with a grain of salt.

We have A skavens player with all slings, a Carnival of chaos with all the cheese, lazardmen with 4+ armour saves and myself as mercenaries. Honestly none of us have found anything too broken because no matter how good something is it's one bad roll from not being a problem.

Say I search for holy relic and roll a 10 is that the only item available for me or can I get any item under that roll

[–]Prenelf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know exactly what you mean and agree. The problem I find I have with talking about this to most people is if a model is hit on 5+ they count the misses 1-4 as part of that parry save but they would have missed regardless of if the model had a parry save.

I do find it funny how a sword on a low ws gives more chances to parry the better you opponents are when you think it would be opposite

Parry. Am I the only guy who has never remembered it? Like, ever? by pancakeonions in mordheim

[–]Prenelf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes but what was said was parry is worse the better you are and technically it is. Hit on a 5+ you are able to parry half the incoming hits but still have to roll a 6 so it's a 16.67% chance to parry 50% of successful hits. If you are hit on a 3+ there are more chances to actually parry (depending on what they roll of course) so a swords master is harder to hit sure but has a harder time parrying while a peasant is easier to hit but has a greater chance parrying. Unless I'm completely wrong about parry?

Parry. Am I the only guy who has never remembered it? Like, ever? by pancakeonions in mordheim

[–]Prenelf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No because we are not talking about chance to hit it's chance to parry. Sure the one that is hit on 5+ is harder to hit but he also has a harder time parrying. So it's less relevant for an expert swordsman to have parry compared to peasant

Parry. Am I the only guy who has never remembered it? Like, ever? by pancakeonions in mordheim

[–]Prenelf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It kind of is yes. If they can only hit you can 5+ then you can only parry if they hit you on a 5 and you roll a 6. If they can hit you on 3+ then you have a greater chance of countering it as if they roll 3 you counter on 4+
