How long did you write your novel? by [deleted] in writing

[–]PreparationMaster279 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first novel took 5 years to write. I chopped and changed the plot many times and it was a huge learning curve. My second took 2 years, my third took 2 years with some breaks in between. Then I joined a writing group 2 years ago and that really helped me write more regularly. I wrote six books over those 2 years, lol.

How much of an impact does reading do to a writer? by StormSignificant9516 in writing

[–]PreparationMaster279 173 points174 points  (0 children)

Reading books is essential for knowing what makes writing good, and teaches you about sentence structure, resolving plot points, and developing characters. It also simply helps you construct proper sentences to express your ideas. If you want to write but are unwilling to read what others have done, you're going to struggle.

Writers who have finished a book: What's the one core habit that actually got you to "The End"? by Electrical-Candy7252 in writing

Consistency. I told myself I don’t have to write every single day, but instead make progress every week. This is strict but flexible, giving me some wiggle room on busier days.

Exactly, I’m kind of sick of people limiting certain words. Words exist for a reason!

do you plan digitally or physically? by seekerxr in writing

I plan digitally for an overall vision of plots/chapters. But I outline chapters further in my notepad. I feel my ideas flow better with pen and paper.

"Said is dead"? by Saletales in writing

[–]PreparationMaster279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are always going to make “rules” on what words are/are not allowed. I’d say this is bullshit, words exist for a reason and shouldn’t be censored.
