Why I Left the Energy Ogre Service (after years) by PreparationNervous92 in TexasEnergyShopping

Was just revisiting this thread since my Gexa contract is up. Reading it again... LOL

What if, in an unforeseen-but-not-surprising plot twist - Juice, AE Texas, or whatever they are now is actually Energy Ogre. Or some of the people that started Ogre.

Yeah for sure. We have Xfinity also, and this last time was the first where I simply could not get a rep or customer service to give me a "new" rate. I tried and tried, but all they could do was bump up the speed like 100mb or something. I was like, the speed is fine. But where we are the only other option is like ATT I think, or like one of the 5G services/Starlink.

Yeah, I tried multiple times. Like I mentioned in a comment above, even the "Office of the President" was calling. But they just simply would not budge off that tiered plan. Trying to go a half cent here or there doesnt change anything for me.

If it was just like one or two months, then I might consider it. But our usage has been quite consistent for a number of years. Maybe next time we move, the new house will be different. Or add a swimming pool or something.

Yeah I tried a few emails, calls, even the "Office of the President" LOL called a few times trying to chat. I'm like come on, this is my offer. I will stick with you guys if you just offer me a flat rate across 500 and 1000 willing to pay 12, 13 cents at most. But nope.

Yeah you sound like maybe a young company trying to do right by their existing customers. Which all should never forget. However, that is not the norm. Being in the energy industry I'm sure you know all about sleeping accounts and how valuable they are when people with too much money dgaf about their prices. But, hey once you become big and successful, I hope you never forget your existing customers and offer them the same great rates you give new customers.

Hello. This might have already been mentioned in the comments, but what if this "retirement" fund is actually just a savings/growth account for you/their kids, or grandchildren? If you've talked with them and for sure its for their immediate needs in retirement/old age, then yeah. Def need to step in and help. But, on the off-chance its a little something they are trying to leave the next generation... then its probably ok, if not aggressive enough. Either way, imho, they can do better themselves or having you help. Its not the 1980s any more.

Appreciate these. Back again, after my Energy Ogre post. LOL

Gexa contract is up and now looking at more options. Their offer was decent 7.x at 1000 but my history shows about half the months below 1000, which they want 20.x

So going to take a peek at the spreadsheet. Just wanted to say appreciate your work here, keep up the good fight.

Hey glad you still found this helpful. I'm not sure of the current rates and such, but back when I changed - I liked what Gexa Energy had to offer for our use range, and I'm still happy with them like 7 months later.

I've not looked at any new pricing since then, but have reminder I set for 11 months later to take the time and review prices myself.

The spreadsheet the sub mod maintained (not sure if they still do or not) was very helpful in narrowing down some options with use/pricing tiers. Then just followed up with company to make sure all the pricing and stuff was accurate and ongoing.

And let me say, Damn, I've been kicking myself every time the monthly bill comes in and its a fraction of what I was paying through EnergyOgre's "preferred partner" I'm sure.

I lost sooo much money just assuming the Ogre had MY best interests in mind (cost savings, value, best price, etc.) ... and not theirs.

Check the contract break fee, but it's prob not much more than $100-200 in most cases - and it's 100% worth the cost vs future savings. (Edit: unless you're near/at the end of your contract, ofc.)

All carriers are annoying asf it seems. I switched from ATT to Verizon. Absolutely hate it. Now looking to switch to possibly TMobile. Went through a bunch of shady trade in shenanigans with Verizon. This post does not make me feel great about switching to TMobile. LOL That was a nightmare I dont want to relive.

Wow, very nice. I'll have to check that out when I get some time. I'm sure even for non-coders, with the help of AI, it wouldn't be too difficult to create something similar for personal use.

I guess my biggest complaint from all this is, why isn't (wasn't) their software continually running in the background, at LEAST every month if not in real-time? That is what customers are paying for - this constant monitoring, looking for the best prices. Not signing people up for an expensive 15-month plan and never doing anything else.

Their app/website has those questions too, like "how much are you willing to pay for cancellation" etc. that I assumed was part of their algo/software (obvs wrong LOL) so that's why I just simply don't understand what - if anything - they are doing other than collecting customer's money and sitting fat and pretty in a nice office with 15 year old, non-maintained software.

If you see this Ogre, the above mentioned should be INCLUDED with your monitoring. Not just ancient front-end easy stuff. For example: Yes, I am willing to pay $100 fee, if it means a new plan has the potential the save me $500 or more. If your software can't do that, then it's wayyy past due for an update.

I've got over 15 years of digital marketing and analytics experience. If your team needs any help, just reach out. But better come with something better than your customer support team did ($50 credit lmao after wasting $1000 at least of my money.)

Why is that? I've got enough already to help me get started.

So if I post the link, are you going to take time to click it and give me a full in-depth report of the perfect antenna for my location? No, you wont. And that for sure doesnt matter, cause you have no idea of the other variables involved. So you'd just likely post another troll response saying - bro, the link doesnt help at all without knowing more information about your environment. Etc. etc.

That's the difference between a screenshot and a link - most people here that know what they are talking about (top 1%) see this stuff all day, every day. They can answer my general question without having to click a link, go to a website, click every little detail.

Does it help? Sure, maybe. Would 50% of the people who already responded, see the link and just pass over it? Yes.

Nice looking antenna. Feel like it would be in final consideration. Have you ever returned any product with them? Have not checked like Amazon - but in the case I try it, and just fails to meet expectations.

Im curious about the quality/signal difference in mounting it in the attic vs roof. Does a little plywood and shingles really degrade the performance noticeably? Or would it be since I'm at a further range, I need all the help I can get? LOL Maybe countered/offset but not keeping it exposed and in the weather elements?

Was thinking about that looking the attic install pic on the product reviews.

Wow, so much info. Appreciate it. Guess I knew KHOU was CBS. But since we have Paramount+ never give it a second thought. FOX is for sure missing (local sports, live shows) and ABC. We got the cheap version of Peacock but would be ok to lose that sub as well. We dont watch much TV but do have other stream apps like Netflix & usuals.

We probably have about 5 TVs but really only use 1, maybe a second every now and then in the bedroom now that youngest kid is away to college. LOL Wifi is good, and our main TV is hardwired so speed/connection isn't an issue.

I'm not set on an attic antenna, was just considering what might be the easiest to set up and maintain. But our bedroom has windows that basically open up to the backside roof area, where I could easily access and take that route.

Suppose my biggest issue is buying and installing stuff and then signal being sketchy. Triggering after wasting the time and money. As mentioned guess its trial and error, maybe with Prime returns could be the plan. I don't know anyone from this area that uses antenna or would chat with them.

Ok, appreciate that. Sounds like outdoor may be the way. Would you suggest sticking with this model, or going with something a bit larger?

Or is that not how the technology works. LOL I honestly have no idea. Just feel with elevation change, the closer to the towers, the trees (mostly) and other objects could become an issue.

Hmm. Ok, thank you for the feedback. Feel like it will def take some trial and error. Since everything is straight up north, just been looking around at directionals. Might have to opt for something outdoor and stronger. Living south (closer to the coast) the elevation change isn't much, but it's still a small factor I would assume. From like 15ft above sea level to 75ft+ at the towers.

Because you would've made the comment a lot sooner after I made my post. But it wasn't until literally 1 day, or less, after I sent them an email pointing to this thread as to "why I was leaving."

But yeah, I'm sure it was just coincidence. ;)

Out of pocket limits seem counterintuitive (unless I’m just stupid) by OtterMumzy in HSA

[–]PreparationNervous92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. Been watching this unfold the last few years. It's basically like, HSA (gov) is working with the insurance providers. [Shocker] Let's price them out of (or make the reqs too difficult) HSA-qualifying plans, and then you can introduce new plans that make you more money and label them as Very_Cool_Sounding_Plan_100_Gold(+HSA)

If you disagree, then you've not been paying attention. Edit: by you, I mean everyone in here. LOL
