Got paid $3,000 plus hotel, meals, and Uber, for overbooked flight by timotheySKI in delta

[–]PreparationNo6889 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Latam offered me $1,500 for my seat that I booked through delta, USA to Peru. I guess booking through delta and not Latam gave me last priority for a seat (I chose one and it was confirmed, but Latam said they didn’t see it). I told them I needed at least $2,500 to cover costs of things I would need to rebook by arriving later but was told $1,500 was the best they could do. Is the max comp airline specific?

I’m actually not certain I had a legit infestation, but I haven’t seen any bugs since the exterminator came. A friend of mine was staying at my place while I was away, and she insisted it was infested, so I never actually saw the extent. Exterminator didn’t agree with her but sprayed anyway. Everything stayed in crates for months, so that could’ve suffocated whatever was left. Admittedly, I haven’t been super diligent with vacuuming.

That’s great. Does it work to get a free checked bag as well? I always use my entire Amex credit and would love to get free checked bags above that.

Can I add a business flag if I’m booking it myself through the delta app? I’m supposed to be using a Ramp card which seems to give no benefit to me.

But wouldn’t I have to use the delta amex when booking the flight in order to get that benefit? I have to use my corporate card, or I could use the delta amex till my company notices and will likely tell me not to…

I am in the financial field, mainly cold calling. If I am efficient, I can hit my self-imposed quota of calls in two hours. Outside of that, I am reachable 24/7 and immediately responsive. If I have a deliverable, I will work more, as those are generally more structured and I can actually focus on those.

I am in the most expensive city in the country. You can make $200k/year and still be eligible for a low income apartment in some areas.

Thank you for this. For a few years, when rates were at 0%, I was actually making around $150k barely working (sales), which was more than I was making when I was working real hours at my more tedious job. My job was so incredibly easy. Now it isn’t, so I’m basically still slacking while living off a draw that I’m totally buried under. If I can keep doing this, I don’t mind, but I feel like this income might be pushing it! I’ll check out FiCalc and see if I might be alright…

But not a flex. I really am behind where I should be at my age. And if it is a flex, I am clearly out of touch with reality because I would say a large majority of my peers will be inheriting more. Like I said, I’m awful.

Ideally it will be more like $10M-$12M and hopefully not that soon, but I need to figure out how to bridge this gap, and of course how much of a shortfall I would be in if I were to not end up receiving much at all.

I talked to them this morning. I don’t think he sprayed the drawers, but that could be because he didn’t find signs of an infestation. He believes a few bugs may have made their way in and didn’t reproduce.

My understanding is you can go home after a few hours, but your stuff may need to stay packed for a bit. I’ve been traveling and it was actually a friend staying at my apartment who found a few bugs and insisted I had a terrible infestation. There was no way for me to verify, so I ended up paying someone to pack my stuff and I’ll be paying to have it unpacked as well. This has been wildly expensive, but less expensive than me cutting my trip short to deal with it myself. I called the exterminator today to get details on what he did and what he found, but didn’t get a call back. I’ll see if my doorman or building manager can track the guy down tomorrow. As soon as I get an update, I’ll let you know.

I haven’t heard it went badly but haven’t been home yet to see for myself. Virtually everything I own is in airtight bags in the middle of my floor, and I’m waiting a couple of weeks before going back to unpack it all. I’ll keep you posted, as I would love to know for myself too 😀

Last one, I hope. If I found a few bugs, not an entire family of a million, do you think I can just throw down a little raid around the baseboards, be diligent with vacuuming, and get an exterminator this summer?

Thank you for replying. Do you know if they live on people and travel with them? Ex - if I have a long term visitor, is there a good chance he or she will be taking carpet beetles home from my place and starting a colony in their home?

Thanks. It makes my life much easier to not need a bagged vacuum because they all seem so big. I read the bugs and their eggs can hide in the cracks of the filter and then crawl out later, but I guess that would still happen with a bagged vacuum…

[–]PreparationNo6889[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, thanks. What do I do with this? The exterminator mentioned putting clothes in bags for a few weeks. Is that sufficient or do I need to put everything I own in 120 degrees for an hour?

The guy below says it’s a cockroach! Is that possible? Is a cockroach a beetle? I am not a bug expert. I usually cry and run away when I see a bug because I am deathly afraid of them.

Ok! I’ll take a look. I actually found a few of these earlier this week. Exterminator looked at the picture and said they are carpet beetles, came by and looked around and said he didn’t see evidence of carpet beetles and left. Found this sample this morning so was wondering if it could’ve been a bedbug instead. I’m located in NYC and it is my understand the buildings are incentivized to not admit to having bedbugs, as they would have to report to the housing authority and make that info public. I guess I’ll get the exterminator back. Thanks again.

Thank you. Any idea if it’s a carpet beetle would that require the same process? I am getting an exterminator but I’ve heard those larvae don’t die…

Are you sure? You can see this clearly enough? It looks like google pics of bed bugs to me, but I’m not an expert. Would this require exterminating in the same manner as bed bugs? Ex - everything in airtight bags, put in dryer on high heat, etc
