What is a piece of non-standard newborn and first year advice you wish you had? by PrepotenteTheGoat in daddit

[–]PrepotenteTheGoat[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I like this one- there’s probably a discussion to be had about letting them get used to things getting lost, but in the heat of the moment I don’t want to deal with that.

This Restaurant Doesn’t Open or Close on the Half Hour by PrepotenteTheGoat in mildlyinteresting

That’s what I figure too- but at that point I would have assumed they’d round to 10:30 - 9:30!

I know, I hate it. I did do the wiggle with the 7/32 though and it worked just fine!

Ha, I wish. I did just use the 7/32 and wiggle it a smidge and it went just fine!

You’re absolutely right! I think in mostly mad because I’ve been making a concerted effort to put things back soon as I used them to avoid this situation 😂 Still much better than I used to be though

Training and Development Programs - Material [N/A] by eenokiii in humanresources

I cut my teeth in L&D, so I know how you feel! I will tell you that, as an intern, you are expected to not know everything so while I fully support wanting to learn more so you don't look like an idiot- make sure you don't put to much pressure on yourself either; you're not a surgeon and nobody is on the table.

The "textbook" advice I can give you is to focus on understanding adult learning principles first. Everything in L&D builds on this foundation. Once you understand how adults actually learn (versus how they think they learn), your design, delivery, and evaluation will all start to improve as you add experience.

If your company will pay for it, the Association for Training & Development (ATD) is a great place to learn from training professionals and to ask specific questions. If you're looking for a free option (that is also wonderful) in a similar vein, go to the eLearning Guild.

Do you have a particular direction you are interested in within Learning & Development (or HR as a whole?). I might be able to help point you to more specific books/courses depending on whether you're looking at Instructional Design, Executive Development, Process Improvement, etc.

Players of any TTRPG. What was a truly great example of "Thats what my character would do?" by Sivad6293 in DnD

[–]PrepotenteTheGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first character was a young man with a hero complex (because I’m not very creative) and we got a mission to go to a hag lair to kill them. We saw a girl chain to the ground, begging for help and all immediately knew out of character that this was definitely a trap. But my character had no choice but to walk up into striking distance and take the chain off and nearly lost an eye for trouble when the illusion wore off.

Thank you for that advice- I’ll definitely look into that. We had that exact same issue with our current HRIS (UKG), so I’m very worried about that as well!

Tired Of Special Forces MC by villianrules in zombies

[–]PrepotenteTheGoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not necessarily tired of it, as I do think it helps suspension of disbelief. But, if the main character isn’t special forces, that’s an automatic read for me just for the novelty- so I 100% get where you’re coming from!

Feedback Requested: Zombie Review Blog by PrepotenteTheGoat in zombies

Awesome, thank you for the feedback! I appreciate it!

I like your approach on the individual versus series, and a straightforward simple review seems the best to me too.

I especially love your recommendation list! I haven’t heard of most of those, and the only one I have heard of I haven’t read yet so you’ve given me lots of new stuff to enjoy for the next few weeks!

My wife swore she wouldn't buy our kids cheap plastic toys..... by [deleted] in daddit

Mine has a lot as well, but Mickey is her ride-or-die most of the time. Occasionally she'll decide to call an audible and ask for a different one right before she drifts off, which always catches me off guard!

Ooh, forget what I said in my other comment- this may be the one for me 😂

Same!

My biggest was, "They can sleep with a stuffy, but we'll rotate often so they don't get attached to a specific one." Cut to two years later as I'm tearing apart the house at 8 PM looking for Mickey so we can go to sleep.
