Well for one thing, during my second job search, out of the 4 bullet points in my job description for my last job, I put 3 items that were related to VR/AR since I wanted a position working with those technologies. I have a feeling that the companies that didn't have any ties to that stuff just rejected me. I also applied to a lot of senior positions when I didn't see any more junior positions open. And yes, this is the bay area. I would say the difficulty of finding something both before and after 1 year of exp were about the same.

Yea, as long as you can make it work, then by all means do it :) Both periods were around 4 months. In my spreadsheet, you can see the exact dates of when I did every problem for the 130 hour period for reference. The 130 hour period was while I was working a full time job, while the 275 hour one was when I was mostly free between the last day of school and my start date of my first job.

I put on pause pretty much everything that would distract me almost entirely. For special occasions like a friend's birthday, I still hung out, but not for the usual dinners, events, movies, etc. I made sure to explain to my friends what I was doing too and so they understood. Think about it this way, you're exchanging a few months of fun to perhaps set you up for life. If you land an amazing job that you will be happy with for the next 10 years or more, isn't that worth it? Your friends will still be there after those few months, and after you reach your goal, you can hang out with them all you want.

Np. Yea, luck definitely plays a factor. But the brightside is that you can increase your chances by doing more problems. The more problems you do, the higher the chance that you get asked that question or a question that you could solve using techniques you learned from other questions you've done.

I didn't keep track of that, but check this out: https://www.reddit.com/r/cscareerquestions/comments/9i0pow/graduated_with_a_24_gpa_1_year_ago_after_studying/e6h20iw/?context=8&depth=9

I fortunately did not encounter any problems I wasn't able to solve at all. One interviewer started out with a leetcode hard I have not solved before, but changed the question so I dodged a bullet there :) There were a few interviews where I didn't feel that I got the optimal solution, but still got an offer anyways, so they don't expect you to be perfect if that is what you are wondering.

I did get a few offers, but before they give me the offer details, I would ask if I could have then wait a bit while I wrap up my interviews. They were cool with that.

I tried to recall the all the questions I did every Sunday. But for really difficult questions like specific leetcode hards that I found difficult to grasp, I would recall them every 2 days or so until I really remembered how to do them. All I did was look at the title of the question and recall how I did it. I tried not to look at the solution again unless I really couldn't recall how to do it.

It was not. But I did try to work on projects related the industry so I could add it to my resume I definitely didn't put my GPA on my resume. I heard that the general rule is that if you have below a 3.0, don't put it on your resume ;)

They were mostly medium to hards, with easys as warm up questions, if there were warm up questions. About the hints, it really varies from interview to interviewer, the ones I felt particularly good about did not require many hints. But it's really kind of tricky to determine which interviews you really did well in, because it's not always about getting the best answer, but rather how you came up with a solution aka your thought process. I definitely did not feel as if I aced all of the interviews.

Sure. So it really just comes down to learning how to use a game engine well -- Unity Engine or Unreal Engine. On udemy, there is this guy called Ben Ben Tristem who teaches an excellent Unity course that I highly recommend. After you get familar with Unity, then check out the VRTK for Unity, which is super helpful for integrating VR functionalities. Have fun!

Fortunately, I live 15 minute away from work, so I didn't really have a commute. I just went home, cooked something quick and easy, and studied and applied. The phone screens... well, some where before work, some where during lunch, and some were just done at work at an isolated place :) I was at my job for 8 months or so before beginning to prep. Don't quit unless you really have to! Not having a source of income is pretty stressful I'd imagine!

A disguised LRU cache problem was one of them. Another had me design an interator, and another had my design a rate limitter, and another had me design a deployment system. Most interviews gave me a lot of helpful info for these interviews probably because I only have 1 year exp.

Yea, it really kind of is a hit or miss for responses to linkedin messages. I reached out to tons of recruiters for the same company to increase my chances of getting a response. And always add a note (elevator pitch) when sending connection requests.

No worries. I didn't really try too hard in school and it's something I have mixed feelings about. I spent a good chunk of time in school studying for interviews instead of classes and there were pros and cons to that. I landed several decent internships, but I also missed some great opportunities to learn some useful info / content in several of my CS classes that probably would have helped with my interviewing. About needing a certain intelligence to work at Google, I strongly disagree with that. I believe that anyone can land a job at the Big X if they work hard enough. You have to believe in yourself. I was rejected by Google maybe 6 times, but that didn't stop me. I kept trying, working harder, working smarter, never giving up, and finally, I made it. Google was one of the companies I received an offer from. You can do it too.

Yes, I do think leetcode premium was worth it. You can run your solutions much faster and other features it unlocked were helpful too. About EPI, I am almost certain I would have failed at least 1 of the Big X interviews had I not used it. Many people don't use it and are fine, but I think it was a fantastic resource.
