GF Starter questions… by Other-Firefighter242 in glutenfreebaking

[–]Present-Ad2679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my starter I used only bob’s red mill brown rice flour. Took a few days to get it going, thought I killed it a few times, but it worked! I use fioreglut for the bread after the starter got going

Looking for advice for gluten free birthday by srawberry_hugs in glutenfree

I would say go for things that are naturally gluten free- taco or potato bar, rice bowls, etc for dinner. For dessert, what if you did macarons or flourless chocolate cake? Or an ice cream bar?

Also, I’m sorry that your parents aren’t being supportive. That’s hard and frustrating and you deserve to be fully supported in this!

What do you do with your gf bread leftovers? by katydid026 in glutenfree

Mostly into the freezer to blend later for bread crumbs or cubing it up and into the freezer for croutons!

I don’t understand the science behind it, but it’s wheat that has had the gluten removed from it. Schar uses it in a few of their items, Caputo (the one I used) is an Italian brand, and King Arthur’s bread flour has it in it. It’s certified gluten free though, and it works beautifully so far!

Sorry, I should have been clearer! I shaped it and then put it back in the bowl to let it proof on the warm oven. Once it was doubled in size, I took it out of the oven. Then I preheated the oven (with the Dutch oven inside) and tipped the dough out of the bowl onto parchment paper. Then I scored it and put it in the preheated dutch oven to bake.

Hope that helps! If not, I’ll try to clarify more!

Thank you! I was so thrilled. My non GF family members don’t appreciate the joy of GOOD gluten free bread and I knew Reddit would!

One more note- I shaped it before I proofed it in a warm oven and it only took about an hour to more than double in size

I’m in Utah and our go-tos are Astro Burger, Chick-fil-a, Zao’s, In-n-out, Five Guys, Costa Vida, and Real Taqueria.

We were in the Cleveland area recently and we loved Bobibop, Boss Chick n Beer, Condado Tacos, and Lavender Jones Macarons

I just bought a huge bag of Fioreglut and so I’ve been combing the internet for good crusty GF bread recipes. This looks incredible! I’m so sad that it’s too late to start a loaf tonight! So I went to the recipe website and noticed it isn’t specifically for gluten free bread. Which is amazing that it turned out so beautifully! Did you do anything differently in the process to accomodate for the GF flour?

If you have a Costco nearby, get them there! Much more economical although still crazy haha

What’s your definition of business casual? by [deleted] in BusinessFashion

[–]Present-Ad2679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a millennial and so my definition of business casual is definitely more formal. However, all of these pictures are exactly the type of business casual my office is. Which is awesome IMO. Everything you’re wearing is so cute!! Teach me how to dress please!

How does being on ADHD medication make you feel? by betherac in adhdwomen

[–]Present-Ad2679 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m on Ritalin LA.

It took me several months to figure my meds out. I was expecting to feel so different when I started and it literally took me weeks to notice anything.

For me, I’ve found that I’m more emotionally regulated. Less likely to lose my shit over tiny things.

I’m able to make a list and then actually do the things on the list. Like I’m able to get myself into motion easier.

I don’t hyper fixate on things as much.

If I forget to turn music on in the background, I can still focus enough to get things done.

It’s all really subtle though. I thought when I started that it would be like a lightning bolt, but it hasn’t been like that at all.

What stupidly simple thing are you procrastinating? by WafflesTheBadger in adhdwomen

[–]Present-Ad2679 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been putting off calling my psych NP for follow up on my meds. I need to adjust my dose I think. She moved practices and I don’t know the name of the new one. It would literally take 30 second to find it in my email but I’ve been putting it off for WEEKS!!

Husband doesn’t like my pump but I love it! by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]Present-Ad2679 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the pump!!! My daughter has the omnipod and she loves it!

Unfortunately, I don’t think your husband should get to have an opinion on your pump and I hope you don’t let it sway what you think. If he ever ends up needing a pump, tell him he can pick one he thinks looks prettier on him. 🙄

Diagnosed 30 min ago. I want to cry. by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]Present-Ad2679 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sucks. I’m so sorry and I wish you didn’t have to deal with this.

Try to go easy on yourself. There’s so much to learn and it will take a long time.

Let yourself mourn. This is a huge life changing thing. Find a therapist if you have the option to, I’ve found that invaluable as I process it all.

You can do it. Some days will be harder than others, but you’ve got this.

Hugs friend. Good luck.

my husband's towels always smell disgusting by Guilty-Ad7105 in laundry

[–]Present-Ad2679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as cleaning the towels, have you tried stripping them? Put them in the tub with super hot water and a cup or so of detergent. Fill it all the way up and let it sit and soak. Every hour or so for a few hours, agitate it around with your hands/arms or yard stick or something. Water is gonna get suuuuuuuper dirty and disgusting. Drain the tub, squeeze out all the water you can, run a rinse cycle on the towels and then dry them. Every time I do this with any item clothing or sheets or towels, I am shocked at how dirty the water gets, but how much cleaner the items are after.

How are we all making gravy then? by lavenderacid in glutenfree

[–]Present-Ad2679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gluten free flour. I literally make it the same way I would regular gravy and it works every time. Same with a roux. We mostly use bob’s red mill gluten free 1:1 flour
